Things you don't want to hear before a gig....
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
Always good to engage every 'no sound' device when you leave the stage - wall socket, power switch, mute switch, master volume, gain, volume control on bass... Very entertaining watching someone failing to get a sound out of your rig.
haha! Such fun! -
Ha ha! what was his face like when you replied "no f***ing way"?
More like "Sure! I'll need a £500 cash security deposit to cover any damage. Fully refundable on return of the bass and amp in same condition it started in." -
I could collect it tomorrow from Johnny in Hemel. I travel about a bit and can arrange to drop it with anyone else who's doing a gig in the South, South-east, London, Anglia area. Any takers?

Yep, I'd like to confirm my desire for it on the 14th Dec in East London (I'm in Romford, Essex). I also get about a bit and so, unless someone needs it in the meantime, I'm sure we can arrange something to pick it up. (I could also use it on the 13th Dec)
I can either meet Grangur in Hemel or meet 4 Strings at say, South Mimms services on the M25? PM me if you want to collect it.

I would get one if it was a loose sloppy beanie rather than just a booble hat sans bobble. -
I fabricated a 3+1+0 a few years ago. It was my crafty solution for the big assed tuners not fitting the standard headstock without sticking out over the edge.
Nice! I have those tuners on my Squier P and I had to grind the corner of the end tuner off - Kinda wish I had done this now!

The Thunderbird V has 4 +1 which looks a bit odd at the headstock is really well designed for four strings (all along the top) but the fifth one just looks stuck on the bottom of the headstock as a afterthought.

"The band before/after you haven't been able to bring their instruments. You don't mind if they use yours do you?" -
This is an "I still have this guitar and its not raising money for charity in my dining room!" bump. Come and get it!

Extortionate cruise ship medical?!
Jonnyboy Rotten replied to jackotheclown's topic in General Discussion
So I finally got a cruise ship gig and I have been told that I have to have a medical (obviously). Its with Carnival and the have set medical practices that you have to go through and I've been quoted £450/500 pounds for mine at a place down in London. Carnival don't reimburse you for this just the visa. I thought this amount was a lot but the agency says its a decent quote, I have the appointment booked for Tuesday next week, if someone can tell me if this is a good/bad deal I will be very grateful! - Jack
You would probably have passed the med if you hadn't had the heart attack and premature ageing when you heard about the price of it! -
someone buy this please!
If I had £400 I would be on it like a car bonnet. -
Yep, I know. You're right. But is WAS very generous of our Johnny on this occasion wasn't it?
Couldn't agree more!

I just tried it and the host server is down because of the traffic. This is the same video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brHqBcZqNzE
Don't think it's really allowed. If it was just a donation out of your pocket, then yes, that would be fine, but if it's been collected at a gig, I don't think you're allowed to claim gift aid, because, as you said, maybe some people who donated don't pay tax. So, I don't think the government would see it as ok, but it doesn't matter this time, does it, because the £100 was yours, wasn't it
Errr ahem, yeah I guess!
-
Try something like this but I don't accept any responsibility if you burn your house down! http://www.permaculture.co.uk/videos/heat-your-room-8-pence-day

A quick protocol question.... When sending the £100 via the justgiving website it asked me if I pay tax and can claim gift aid. I put that I do and I can which makes the total £125! Whoohoo! However, after hitting the send button it occured to me that it is possible (even likely?) that not everyone who donated the money on the day actually pays tax. So there may be a few quid of gift aid 'over paid'. Does this matter? It is ok/ethical etc to have everyone give the money to someone who pays tax to get the government in order to bump up the total?
Well done and thank you, hope/glad you enjoyed your time with the bass. You lot are amazing and don't forget to add the relay to your sigs if you've taken part.
Cool! Will do!
-
I should probably also say that the bass sounds great! Loved playing it and it is ready and available to be passed to the next 'baton thrasher' (oo err!)
-
Well I played it at our church this morning and we raised a respectable £100! It would have been more but I hadn't realised that there would be another collection for some missionaries from our church too.
Bass transfered to Jonnyboy rotten sorry no transfer pics, it was a dark parking
Yep those Seymour Duncans look great. Looking for to hearing it! edit...and yes it does sound rather dirty but was all proper and above board!
Here are the first pics of yesterday night it was a very quiet night at greens (halloween effect ?) but still the bass was played and money was collected for research for cancer. Will track people there for more pictures (including some of me playing the bass). So who wants to be next ? I can deliver the bass in a triangle between heathrow, stansted and cambridge
If you are around I can meet you somewhere perhaps Thursday evening so I can play it on Church on Sunday? The pastor has agreed to it and doesn't mind plugging the cause and passing the collection tin around the congregation! PM me if you are about?
