  1. That’s off as I have the Bassamp 100 head and it has great tone. I suspect it was the cabinet as in those days it cabinet design was hit and miss.
  2. Interesting. I use mine sometimes for practice but have never used it in anger. It often seems that the guitars in the band can’t/won’t play in the original key, then that makes the bass part harder. Or I have the part in muscle memory from another band and the new band decided to do it in another key.
  3. I have a cable made with SC Spirit and I use it from my pedal board to my amp.
  4. Yes my issue with Van Damme was that the cable broke just past the strain relief. It may be better now but once bitten (actually it was more than once).
  5. I have made hundreds (maybe thousands) of cables over the years and in most situations, the standard quality cables from Sommer* and Klotz** are my choice. There are a number of reasons but the main ones are: Better bend radius. The cables like the one under discussion gave a bigger bend radius than the ones with a 6-6.5mm diameter cables. trying to coil a fatter cable is tedious. Connectors. Many connectors, including the Neutrik ones I use do not like thicker cables. Those connectors look like the standard NP2RX from Neutrik and those are designed for up to 7mm cable. So either the chuck has been modified or omitted completely meaning that the rubber exit shroud IS the cable retention. The advantages of the thicker cables only really show up for full range signals, for bass, even slapped bass, a good quality 6-6.5mm cable is more than enough over stage distances. Of course there are other quality cables around and many swear by Van Damme or Mogami. I have had bad experiences with Van Damme cables over the years and Mogami are hard to get in the UK. There is also no real benefit in either brand over the easily available Sommer and Klotz. Finally if you really need to go a long way from an unbalanced source like a bass, use a DI box or buffer. If you have a pedal board, these larger cables may be useful to take the output to the amp/mixer especially if you use true bypass pedals. In this application they don move and that may be a blessing for elf and safety. Or you could go wireless, but remember a cable is always your best backup. They don´t need batteries or charging. *Tricone 2, Tricone XXL or SC Clasique Braided. **AC110
  6. I currently have a SEAT LEON and although not small, I cannot get everything in the boot. Now some cars, like the Honda Jazz, have legendary flexibility but other than a van, what is there?
  7. To be fair there was nothing else and no one, not even the manufacturers new jack shite about bass amplification.
  8. I was at one gig where the kocj drum would totally dominate whenever it was played. AS a result the rest of the band just dissappeared for about a second.
  9. I was once told by a sound person to turn down so I did. He said you are still too loud, i turned down. Still tooloud, I turned the master to 0. .......You are still too loud. He went a vivid shade of red when I told him.
  10. Is the whole of BC to degenerate/ascend (choose your own adjective) to the level of the DOI? Can I find solace on the "Other Place"? Who makes Solace anyway?
  11. With some pedals it is useful. When my Smoothound wireless receiver is on the same supply ground/0V line as my other pedals there is noise injected into the signal path. Isolate the supplies and all is well. Put the Smoothound on a supply with any one pedal and all is well. I had the same problem with my Korg AX3000B.
  12. More restrictions come into force in July. Fingers Crossed.
  13. Agreed, a Third Country in EU parlance. My point is that VAT should always have her charged at the buyer’s country’s VAT rate. So even when the UK was in the EU, Irish Customers should have paid the Irish rate levied at the time. The issue is with import duty. It is a while since I looked at the codes but I seem to remember that the UK levied 1% Import duty. With respect to Brexit, it woukd have been far from over by now whatever UK citizens did or did not do. The final official changes to import/export regulations do not take place until July 2021.
  14. You could buy a cheaper bass? Seriousley, some of the better PA cabs are very good QSC, RCF and Yamaha are worth a look. @Phil Starrhas some RCF 10s that sound pretty good. Maybe he can advise.
  15. Sorry for thed delay. I contacted Blue Acoiustics and was told that as a small company they build to order. They found that every order is different so they have stopped producing a price List. However they are happy to quote by phone or just take verbal abuse if that is your wont. Talk to Ken Hughes, his mobile number is on the website.
  16. I just looked at the price, I would already need to take out a loan. Tyat said if they last like some other flats then it would not be too bad.
  17. I have heard that Sycamore is a good substitute for maple although I don't have any experiencd myself.
  18. Like you I have not been looking at them for a while but £55 for s set of Chrome Flats Ouch. I also checked Fender Flats that are made by D'Addario. They are £33-37, the last set I boughts was under £30.
  19. Yes I it was tongue in cheek. The truth is that any wood can be tonewood and that no particular species has a particular "tone". The tone of a wood is detremined by its density and some woods have a vast range of density. Also remember that the woods used by Leo were those availabke locally in the USA. They had no special qualities in the smae way that CTS pots were/are not special. Just a good brand available in the USA when Leo started. However don't take my word for it. A fascinating research project on woods for classical/acoustic guitars was done by The Leonardo Group of Luthiers. https://sites.google.com/site/leonardoguitarresearch/background/the-lgrp-programme This details the research they have done into using native European woods is both interesting and revealing. Good luck with the project.
  20. I am sure that te VAT rate charged within the EU was for the county of origin. For Example Germany has a 19% rate but Thomann shipments to the UK had 20% VAT. Of course in the EU you cannot change VAT downwards so thankfully once Brexit is done we can have 19% in the UK. Great, when will brexit be done?
  21. Not wishing to restart the tonewood wars but what do you class as a tonewood?
