  1. Some sound advice here but let’s look at the real world. 1. You should never use 6.35 plugs (1/4”) for speakers,,,,, but some amps and speakers have them so… use the best you can and NEVER and instrument cable. 2. SpeakON 4 way connectors are close to a standard but on cables a 2 way works fine. It mates with a 4 way socket on +1 & -1. You cannot use a 4 way plug into a 2 way socket. 3 Cables.. You can use mains flex as long as the current rating is OK for your rig. The problem is it is not very flexible. 4.Speaker cable is more flexible and more suited to stage use. You do not need 4mm cable unless you are doing high powered PA speakers over long distances. They are a pain to use in the old Neutrik speakons and way over specified for bass rigs. 5. Although Neutrik are the industry standard, both Cliff and Amphenol make fine Speakon compatible connectors. Switchcraft may also but they are not common in the UK. 6. As a general rule I use 20 amperes as the maximum current (amperage is NOT a word) that 2.5mm cable can carry and 16 amperes as the max a 1.5mm flex can carry. Although commercial flex may be rated higher, that does not account for the losses in the cables. For bass rigs this may be negligible when using a 50cm to 1m cable but PA cables are much longer and the losses add up. 7. So a 2.5mm copper cable, In my opinion, is good for in excess of 3000 watts continuous at 8 ohms. For 4 ohm use you must halve that rating to 15-1600 watts. For 1.5 mm cable, the figures are 1800 watts at 8 ohms and about 900 into 4 ohms. For longer runs I would derate those figures. Conclusion, 4mm cable is overkill for a bass rig. 2.5 and 1.5 are more than enough but buy a reputable make. Some cheap cables are CCAW or copper covered aluminium wire. It is rubbish.
  2. It is a cab issue not an amp issue. The Mesa is a fine amp, look for a neutral cab.
  3. I am not convinced about this. Of course these drivers could be different but having “ conditioned” several drivers in the past, IMO It makes little difference.
  4. This could get heavy but @itu is correct. Our hearing corrects for the low frequencies we are missing when we high pass the bass. However, the frequencies above 1KHz are vital for bass with regards to dispersion. Not a problem via FRFR PA cabs but vital if you have any on stage sound. I wonder if we neglect “feel”, the feel of backline at our peril. A properly designed bass cab can flap your trousers and more, can, IEMs duplicate that? Of course not but trouser flapping bass is not what the audience wants. The conundrum is that we are all here for slightly different reasons, slightly different circumstances.
  5. I could go off on a rant again but…. A live performance is never perfect, and possibly shouldn’t be. It should be as good as you can make it. Then play and sing as well as you can.
  6. The cheap inverters give out something approaching a square wave, as @Phil Starr says even those proportion be pure sine wave produce a sort or castellated wave. A bit line a low bit rate A/D conversion. You may be better off with a generator.
  7. Are you feeding it a mix from the mixer or going direct to the combo?
  8. @stevie is developing a lower cost 10" cab and that would probably go really well with the Gnome/Elf etc.
  9. You're nicked! I was writing with my tongue pushing out my cheek, ever, so slightly.
  10. Well this is something I never thought I would discuss on BC. The Oxford Comma goes against everything I was taught at school. Incorrect use of commas was the precursor (or should that be pre-cursor?) of a wooden board rubber hurled, at close to the speed of light, towards the offending head. However it doe add clarity to many sentences a is explained very well here https://www.rd.com/article/oxford-comma-proper-use/. The purpose of writing or speaking is communication, (Oxford Comma) and as long as the meaning is clear, then who cares? Maybe a polite DM to the author of any offending piece would be a kinder way to point out his/her error. Of course discussions about the Oxford Comma, and its use, will not be tolerated.
  11. That 6 year rule is a hangover from EU membership. Probably some of the “ Red Tape” that we “need” to get rid of.
  12. Sometimes I get hacked off that everyone gets the same especially as I lug and set up the PA most gigs but it saves any hassle. Mamy years ago I was acting as roadie, PA hire co and sound man for a local band. I also attended every rehearsal. As a result I got 1/5 share, they were a 4 piece. At some point one of the WAGS got to hear of the arrangement. The result, I was asked to do it pro-bono. Needless to say we parted company.
  13. I always equate Salisbury with Salem. Sarum Salem?
  14. If you play a lot of rocky type covers that one fits best IMHO
  15. The song only really makes sense if its sung by a man, especially if you know the back story.
  16. Maybe cos they can't play like Jack Cassady.
  17. The one song that Skynyrd recorded that was a waste of vinyl IMHO.
  18. Sorry only just seen this thread. I agree will all but Hey Joe but then I have never had to play it in a band.
  19. The Rebbels played The Cock Inn in Warminster last night. We have not played together for about a month and in the meantime I have had the nasty bug that is going around and could not pick up the bass for long periods. I admit it was a trial and not one of our best although the audience loved it. The room was hard floors throughout and the sound was a bit bass light initially. My rig was LFSys Monza 10, with a Bugera Head fed from my Marcus Miller M2 via the Zoom B2-4. As the bass has active electronics, I was able to push a little low end to get to where I wanted to be. It was a struggle for me, especially second half, but I got through with a few more pink torpedo ups than usually. Despite all this they want us back.... To top off a hard night, the rain was biblical and a 1 hour 10 minute journey home took closer to two hours with the road of Wiltshire and Dorset trying desperately, in cahoots with the rain, to aquaplane me into a ditch/hedge. Maybe it will not be raining next time1
  20. Real Gaffa Tape is low tack and does not stick. The cheap stuff sold as gaffa tape is really duct tape.. See https://advancetapes.com/products/gloss-cloth-tape-advance-gaffa/
  21. Yes its rattles and no its not noisy. I don't have ZNR on any patch and I cannot hear noise on a good pair of headphones. However if you use extreme drives etc (which I don't) you may hear something that I don't.
  22. I have older iPhone and iPad but I have the camera adaptor that allows the same thing. I will try it shortly.
  23. Do you mean it runs off USB C?
  24. Of course he won't, he would be restricted to piano and organ parts then rather than trying to do everything.
