  1. Formal: the concepts of modal interchange and borrowed chords. Informal: in an unfamiliar musical situation, watch the singer, listen to the drummer. That principle has served me well.
  2. Last night was third time out with my recently acquired Fender TB600 head, via my BF Super Twin. Bass was my AVRI 63 Precision strung with Chromes. Venue was a gopping estate pub outside Bristol but the staff and punters were friendly enough, despite medically inadvisable levels of inebriation among some of the latter. Suffice to say that I enjoyed the gig, thanks to (1) the sound coming out of my rig, (2) the playing of the lead guitarist.
  3. There’s a row of stuff like that at the back of A. Remus Sound in Gloucester.
  4. Yes, going wired (via Behringer P2) is the worst case scenario where wireless simply doesn’t work - never had to do this since I got the XSW.
  5. That's what I use, under similar conditions, and yes I get that too sometimes. Then again so do other people in the same band on completely different frequency ranges. I haven't found a solution other than going wired!
  6. Well I didn't take it home but that doesn't mean that someone else won't want to! Sounded nice through someone's Zilla cab though.
  7. I often have to roll off some bass on the amp when playing through my Super Twin.
  8. I use the Boss WL20 but both Tx and Rx are rechargeable. Boss WL50 has rechargeable Tx and board-mounting Rx which doubles as the charger for the Tx. At the SW Bass Bash @stewblack showed me his really neat system that charges both Tx and Rx in a little portable dock between gigs - can’t remember the brand though.
  9. I have to disagree here. The 12XN range are pretty hi-fi sounding, but the 10CR cabs have a distinct ‘vintage’ coloration to them. Go for whichever you prefer.
  10. Sounds to me like your volume pot has lost contact to ground.
  11. Best: Boss WL20 wireless setup. For many years I resisted going wireless - didn’t want to digitise my precious analog signal, another thing to go wrong etc. In reality I can move about the stage without restriction, go out front to check FOH mix, and change guitars much more quickly than with a cable. Absolute game-changer for just over a ton used. Worst: JAM Pedals Harmonious Monk tremolo pedal (for skinny-string use). Just did not float my boat. At all. Sold on within a week.
  12. I was going to bring a reel-to-reel tape recorder and a selection of high-end mics but I couldn’t because I don’t have any of those things! But seriously although I could hear differences between one PA system and the next, I would struggle to put into words what they were. I could happily use any of those systems on a gig tbh, either solely for vocals or for other stuff too.
  13. Cracking bass, and Dave is a bona fide gent.
  14. That’s a dead ringer for my ‘73 Precision! GLWTS
  15. In my calendar. Saturday night gig is fairly local so that’s a plus!
  16. An unfeasibly inexpensive way to add speaker simulation to your pedal board. Comes loaded with impulse responses for 10 guitar and 2 bass cabs selectable fro the rotary switch. These can be replaced with your own IRs by connecting the unit to a computer with the supplied USB cable. Balanced and unbalanced outputs. In excellent condition. I have fitted the supplied velcro but the original rubber base is also included. £30 delivered in the UK.
  17. Does what it says on the tin - turns your clean electric guitar sound into a passable facsimile of an acoustic. I think it sounds best with a neck single coil via 'G. AMP OUT' into a clean guitar amp. In excellent condition with box and manual. £60 £50 delivered in the UK.
  18. So glad I made the effort to go this year. Always nice to put user names to faces! Thanks for all the kind comments about my DIY Ampeg B15 clone, people seemed to like it!
  19. Hi would you mind bringing it tomorrow? Alway fancied trying one of these, and will have my BF Super Twin there to plug it into.
  20. I’ve occasionally justified a purchase with the phrase ‘This will be handy if I get a gig doing [insert unlikely thing here].’ Inevitably the kit in question has just taken up storage space until I eventually sold it at a substantial loss. I’ve just drawn back from the brink of buying some PA kit that will only be useful if (1) a particular project not only gets off the ground but achieves considerable success, or (2) I branch out into live multitrack recording (which tbh I don’t really want to do).
  21. So how did it go?
  22. Just re-discovered flats. Re-fitted D'Addario Chromes to my AVRI 63 Precision and all the glorious thump came back. Then spent a delightful half-hour playing Steely Dan numbers on it. Mmm...
