  1. Thanks for the clarification Muppet, I missed that ! Chris
  2. Extract from https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/the-visitor-economy (Last sentence of paragraph following 'The 14 Steps That Will Usually Be Needed') "At this time, venues should not permit indoor performances, including drama, comedy and music, to take place in front of a live audience." Dammit. Chris
  3. Oh - so many good solos out there but my current faves are both sax solos Steven Marcus' solo (starts at 2' 30") is a bit tasty AND Richard Elliot's sax playing .................. - pick the bones out of that.
  4. I've recently taken delivery of 2 x StewMac catalogues from Keith. Great communications and prompt delivery. Thanks for a smooth transaction Keith.
  5. Been playing for church services for a while now. I've managed to incorporate bits of the bass lines from 'Another Brick In The Wall' (Pink Floyd), 'Do It Again' (Steely Dan), and 'South Of The Border' (Doobie Brothers). Generates grins from the other band members and positive comments from musically aware members of the congregation. Chris
  6. Had the pleasure of seeing Sweet live at Woods Leisure Centre in Colchester when Blockbuster was top of the charts (around 1973 ish). Great band, and they really rocked the place. They played a Who Medley which included My Generation with accurate Bass Breaks. I got their autographs for my sister. RIP Steve Priest - a fine bass guitarist and a nice guy. Chris
  7. Right now I am listening to Crossroads by FREE - live in Sunderland
  8. Ideally - tonight. Realistically - when situation and circumstances permit, and even then it depends on whether the band members are still up for it. Chris
  9. Welcome back and hope you make a full and speedy recovery. Best wishes to Mrs NFF too, must have been an ordeal for her. Take care and stay safe. Chris
  10. Mornin' all. Some businesses are re-opening on or about 15 June (presumably with the appropriate social distancing measures) - any thoughts as to whether this will include rehearsal rooms and/or recording studios? Chris
  11. I saw DS at the NEC on the 'Brothers In Arms Tour' - IMHO they were the most sterile live act I have ever seen. Musically and technically they were stunning but absolutely no soul or feeling whatsoever. The highlight of the evening was coming out of the NEC and seeing a laser display across the lakes - my lasting memories are a massive laser seagull sweeping towards me and a rotating die (or dice if you prefer) again rolling across the lake and heading my way. IIRC, and before Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler was part of a band called 'Brewers Droop' - I saw them at the University Of Essex during a Miner's Benefit concert and was mightily impressed. Chris.

  14. Just this one - Epiphone DOT with Wilkinson Pick-Ups
  15. I'm the proud owner of 4 bass guitars (from Left to Right) 1) Status Stealth II - 5 string (Red tint and Red side LEDs) 2) MIA Fender American Standard Precision (the sticker on the scratch plates says 'Upgraded With Fender Custom Shop Pick-Ups') 3) MIM Fender Precision 4) Gibson Thunderbird (2015 model with Babicz bridge, and coil-tapped Hum-Buckers) 1) and 2): Status and White P - These are my workhorse basses. 3) and 4): Antigua P and Thunderbird - Way back in the late 60's I picked up copies of the Fender and Gibson catalogues from Hodges and Johnson's music shop in Queen Street, Colchester. The catalogues showed a P bass in the Antigua finish and the Thunderbird range respectively - I never forgot those images and nearly 50 years later I finally have one of each.
  16. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm - temptation is biting quite hard here too. PM on its way. Chris
  17. Styling Cues I Do Not Like. 1 Coloured Headstocks 2 See above Chris
  18. A different approach to 'Boogie'. Little Feat - good time music with some great bass lines by Kenny Gradney. Three LF songs that I love playing along with Let It Roll Dixie Chicken Cadillac Hotel Enjoy. Chris
  19. Been happily retired from full-time employment (Electrical Engineer) for over 2 years now. These days I play Bass Guitar, do voluntary work for Cancer Research UK, and occasionally help out a Funeral Director. Chris
  20. University of Essex Rag Week 1970 , SU Dance Hall, 'Home' supporting 'Family' I like to think that 'Family' had a bad night - but they were comprehensively out-played and out-classed by 'Home' whose line-up included Laurie Wisefield (went on join Wishbone Ash) and Cliff Williams (hooked up with AC/DC).
