Here's a bit of an ebay story with a twist and 100% true! My brother in law plays and buys and sells guitars and around 10 years ago saw a valuable sunburst or gold top Les Paul ( it might have been 1959?) on ebay. he bid for it but did not win it, only to get a second chance offer from the seller, I think it was around £2500 which he accepted.(The explanation was the winner was in the USA and postage was too much). He'd checked the provenance of the guitar and spoken to the seller who seemed genuine and knew about guitars. The seller said to get the £ to him ASAP as he was working in Switzerland next week: if he got the money quickly he'd send it before he went. So my BIL sent the money, he'd had a few difficulties getting hold of the guy but always got through in the end. The guitar arrived by courier in a case but not a shaped case, BIL thought "Ok fair enough, it's not a dealbreaker as long as the guitar is OK". He took off the wrapping paper, opened the case to find it filled with 3 bricks! He contacted the seller who said it had been definitely sent with the guitar inside and it was the couriers fault. BIL spoke to the couriers who said it could not have been substituted. BIL contacted the Police ( who did not know what ebay was at this time). To cut a long story short the case went to court in the sellers home town of ......... Day one saw the prosecution make their case, then BIL was called by the prosecution, then the defence. The defence lawyer went thought his bank details trying to prove he'd received the guitar and had sold it on. They then called Chandler Guitars to establish the provenance of the guitar. Then the defence called a little old lady who under questioning said she'd seen the defendant wrapping this guitar up, in a park opposite a guitar shop, where he'd called to get some wrapping materials. She said she sat there every day and noticed this guy wrapping a 1959 sunburst/goldtop Gibson les paul..... Immediately suspicions were raised, how would a little old dear know so much detail? The detective on the case was a local guy and called his girlfriend who worked close by. He asked her if she knew the old lady. "Of course", it was the defendant's girlsfriend/partner's mother! After lunch the detective went to the Judge and the case was halted, ultimately the old woman was charged with perjury and the guitar seller was charged again, fined and made to pay back the money ( which he still has not done). The Judge who knew nothing about ebay castigated BIL for sending off money for something he wasn't sure existed...! The defendant had money troubles and had just copied a photo from US ebay! However the twist in the tale was that on day one, the detective said to BIL, I'll tell you something about the family of the defendant at the end of the trial. Apparently the defendant came from a family of two parents and two brothers, of which he was one. When he was younger his mother left home so they stayed with their father. Then the guitar cheat brother left home. Some time later the remaining son died one day sat on the sofa, and instead of telling the authorities, the father left him sat on the sofa: for some reason he did not decompose and the room was just left closed. Time elapsed and for some reason, people were going to visit the house so the father wrapped dead son's corpse in an old carpet and dumped it in a park. The body was found, the Police thought they had a murder: after investigations in the end the father was just charged with preventing a burial.
fascinating. Surely that has the makings of one of those three-part ITV Dramas. Any TV Producers in the house?
Look, Hutton already posted those links. Here's the pic:
This bass was advertised for sale on this forum about two years ago. Anyone know where it is?

Yep. Mine is used in this config most of the time. It's a gem with both channels on and people with LMIIs always ask WTF! I wonder what this new LMKish MoMark module thing is like?

Thanks, guys. The keys player in my band really rates QSC too. They are quite heavy and deep compared to the Carvin though. Either way it seems like a cheap way of doing things compared to the all in one head. That link I posted to the Carvin site distorts the price when you reclick it - the price it should show is £251. Interestingly it looks as though Carvin add the shipping, VAT and Duty and quote you a landed price. It would be cool if more US retailers did this.
What is your preamp plan? Also, probably best going for a PA amp, rather than one marketed for bass. Been eying this to make a crap offer on it, but spend all my pennies: QSC What sorta power you looking for?
Interesting one that QSC - do they have a good rep? Preamp is a DHA rack unit, it's a VT3-Twin-EQ 1u thing. It sounds great, nice and warm and the two channels makes it as versatile as the LMK for when it comes to switching sounds. Power-wise, I guess 500watts and upwards. My cabs are 400watts at 8 ohms.

A while back I decided to go down the route of big rig/little rig; one for own pleasure and to let me have a great tone with loads of effects and the other for convenience when going to rehearsals or small gigs where I share limited space transport. My rack box rig is currently using my Markbass LMK head as a power amp as a temporary measure while I find a power amp that fits the bill. What I'm looking for is a 2U poweramp that is no deeper than 300mm. This Carvin unit looks pretty good and seems very well priced (£350 imported). Does anyone have any experience of Carvin gear? It seems to get a good rap in the States but then again so does Squeezy Cheeze and illegal wars so anyone closer to home have one? Cheers Sean

Stupidly Easy Tunes Which Are An Absolute Pleasure To Play
good point about the bass line, but am I alone in finding Joss Stone well.....just more than a bit sh*te? I'll get me coat.......
go and see Joss live; she's got an amazing band that aren't just hired hands and she's got all the attitude of a legend. They are one of the best live bands I've seen. The bassist, Peter Ionnaccone is a he'll of a grooved and acts as musical directorfor the shows. I've seen them (her) 4 times and have tickets for Shepherd's bush in Feb. Sorry for the hijack. Simple song the is a pleasure? Zombie by The Cranberries. Fantastic -

There's some good TAB and notation here if anyone's interested. It's from BC's own Simon Merrick. -
Not another Lakland Darryl Jones for sale. People really don't hold on to them for long.
Fantastic bits of kit. Best passive Jazz out there bang for buck, I have two and fancy a third to do some mods to. Red with rosewood would be ideal but few and far between. BUMP!
Says it all, what a load of wa*k. Of all the places to do a PA with a bass guitar... OK he wants to hit the youth market, fair enough, but how many of them shop at Selfridges? Despite my respect for his playing and what he and the band have given to music, I can't help thinking he's a sad parody of what he used to be, and, arguably, what he should still be. Lte's face it, Squier are doing a far better job for almost half the price. I rate Flea as one of my major influences, but my message to him now is this; have the balls to show up at a decent music shop, avoid the corporate crap and hang with real musos and you might sleep better at night and make better music than has been the case recently (did you really enjoy playing the sh*t you put down on stadium Arcadium)? You've got enough cash not to need to rip off the most naive sector of the market with sh*t instruments, so get back to MM or Modulus and develop a decent instrument. I'd love the idea of the economy Flea Bass if it wasn't a) too expensive, apparently not very good, and c) marketed through w*nk shops like Selfridges. C
Hooray! Well put, Chris. Stadium Arcadium was taken off my iPod recently to make room for Black Joe Louis and the Honeybears and some more Ryan Adams. The photos of Flea wirth all those ectatic kids makes me cringingly sick.
The guitars themselves are available in two sizes and even come with an instructional DVD featuring Flea himself.
We do three Bon Jovi songs and they always go down well. That said they are sung by a pretty girlie with a ridiculious boob job wearing fantasy cop gear (sometimes) and not a wannabe poodle-haired sweaty bloke.
Thank you for this totally unwarranted attack on my character. My bags are made by Louis Vuitton.
Bags by Louis Vuitton, starred in My Own Private Idaho, wears eye shadow, dyes his hair, mad keen on accessories... Does he have a missus? I can't believe that no one has used that screen name before now!

I have 2 x Lakland DJ4s and The Spectors (see sig).

£2500 Ah well. Anyway, here's a load of BFR porn for you all. It doesn't cost to look. Some of those Sterlings are gorgeous.

I've never been a huge fan of Musicman instruments but over the past couple of months I've played four Ball Family Reserve guitars and basses and they were all absolutely superb. I've tried two Stingrays both of which sounded warmer and "hotter" than any Stingray I've ever tried before and the quality of them was first class, the flame tops just breathtaking (not that I've seen many shabby EBMM). The two guitars I played were ridiculously good; one was a Petrucci model and the other a double necked Silhouette. I would say they were easily as good as any PRS guitar I've tried. Does anyone have one? Anyone tried them? here's one of the basses I played (cheers Dave) And here's one of the guitars (Cheers Johnny)
a mahoosive Mesa stack, powered by a couple of Mesa 400 heads.
Got called downstairs to see this and my eye went straight to the stack. Nice. His voice is a bit ropey and his hair made him look bizarre but he's still out there doing it. Why was he there? Has he got some new product to sell? He certainly didn't need the fee

I use 45 - 105 + 125TW (I think). I have thought about going to 40 - 100 but that'll be months away with these things, they still sound new after 6 months Theoretically they should be less tight. If you try this, let us know what you think.
I loved the tone of my euro 5, but found it a tad neck heavy and a real stretch to the low frets. Anyone else find this?
My Euro5 is really light, well it's the lightest Euro5 I've ever tried and that's probably due to it being Alder/Poplar. I think the stretching is down to the fact that the top horn is a bit shorter than some basses and so it hangs slightly further away from you. I looked at this last night and can't say I noticed until I got intrigued by your post.

I now have an EMG 40P in the neck position of my NS5XL. I tried this with a the DC at the bridge and it sounded very big and meaty. I then A/B'd it with the Euro4 for a couple of hours (proper practise, no noodling :snob: ) and late last night decided to try an EMG 40J in the bridge position. It now sounds as close to the Euro4 as can be possible and it is now without a doubt as good as it could sound. It was incredible before, now it's perfect. I've always been a fan of the P/J configuration and the EMGs in my Euro 4 are my favourite pickups ever so to get these replicated in the NS5 has made me very happy indeed. I'll post sound files at the weekend.
