1. yeah id just replace the pot also... allthough cant find any decent images of the pots but they look like they have extended lugs that go straight into a board...might be tricky to replicate with a standard pot.
2. spotted this the other day when looking for DIY basses. Never tried one but at 45 quid its worth a look. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2014-Retro-Canadian-Maple-Electric-Bass-Neck-electric-Bass-kit-kits-Please-leave-a-message-to/1864538766.html
3. second on the stereo socket! but if its just intermittent for a quick fix just squeeze the contacts in a bit and reflow the joints with a soldering iron
4. Would an ink stain like that work okay on one of those cheap mahogany bodies you get in kits? ...I fancy having a go myself
5. This is the first time ive come across using brown paper for polishing, the stuff ive got has a rough and a smooth side? i take it you use the smooth side? very interested in your ink staining method aswell.
6. bit of super fine wire wool should take the corrosion off the pole pieces...the plating on the bridge might be trickier
7. yeah you could do it like that ... dual concentric pots are a little harder to get hold of tho since you would want one taper to be lin and the other to be log...but you might not care about that

10. burn the enamel off with a lighter and solder as per usual. the wires are probably a bit more fiddly than most are used to but its not difficult.
11. Id check to see if CPC have something comparable...tends to be a fair bit cheaper than maplins [url="http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse.jsp?N=411+208413+110142957+110120747+110164314+110181233+110120754&No=0&getResults=true&appliedparametrics=true&locale=en_CC&divisionLocale=en_CC&catalogId=&skipManufacturer=false&skipParametricAttributeId=&prevNValues=411+208413&mm=1002163|110142957|110120754,&filtersHidden=false&appliedHidden=false&autoApply=false&originalQueryURL=%2Fjsp%2Fsearch%2Fbrowse.jsp%3FN%3D411%2B208413%26No%3D0%26getResults%3Dtrue%26appliedparametrics%3Dtrue%26locale%3Den_CC%26divisionLocale%3Den_CC%26catalogId%3D%26skipManufacturer%3Dfalse%26skipParametricAttributeId%3D%26prevNValues%3D411%2B208413"]http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse.jsp?N=411+208413+110142957+110120747+110164314+110181233+110120754&No=0&getResults=true&appliedparametrics=true&locale=en_CC&divisionLocale=en_CC&catalogId=&skipManufacturer=false&skipParametricAttributeId=&prevNValues=411+208413&mm=1002163|110142957|110120754,&filtersHidden=false&appliedHidden=false&autoApply=false&originalQueryURL=%2Fjsp%2Fsearch%2Fbrowse.jsp%3FN%3D411%2B208413%26No%3D0%26getResults%3Dtrue%26appliedparametrics%3Dtrue%26locale%3Den_CC%26divisionLocale%3Den_CC%26catalogId%3D%26skipManufacturer%3Dfalse%26skipParametricAttributeId%3D%26prevNValues%3D411%2B208413
12. thats probably never going to look very good even repaired...if you can get the vaneer off and the headstock away from the neck I would have a go at dowels and glue. and then glue the vaneer back on but ive never done it before so more research would probably be a good idea
13. Yeah that was the string height to the pickups, was to fenders jazz bass specs and then i played around with it and it didnt make too much difference. Id say its about 90% the output of my squire VM jazz with quarter pounders in. I just expected a bit more oomph
14. so its likely just a low output preamp?
15. So I have this mex jazz bass deluxe. It is about half the output level of the active music man at the studio. So far I have tried New battery Checked continuity in the battery clip replaced a pot that was badly soldered replaced the jack socket Checked string height against fenders recommendations anyone got any other ideas? TF
16. Delivery was pretty quick, the pot was allmost an exact match apart from the shaft length wich was remedied with liberal application of the dremel
17. okie dokie just crammed a 16mm cts pot in there and its super snug but it goes in. Gonna go for the german website an see how that goes. I requested postage as a letter rather than as a package...not sure how that will go... saved about a fiver tho will report back in approx 5 days.
18. Yeah that looks like the right one, had to double check but its definately 12 mm. gonna see if I can cram a 16mm one in tomorrow. probably got a spare cts one I can test it out with.
19. thanks for the replies, yeah i was hoping to have the part asap, a lot of the ebay listings say delivery could be several weeks. as far as i know there is know customs tax below a threshold of £15 ...might be wrong tho. Newoldsounds may be an option but it still works out to about 11 quid and a 2 week wait just for a pot Unfortunately i just realised the fender one is a 12 mm dia. and only just fits as it is. not convinced the 16 mm alpha pots would fit in.
20. Hi All, Im having trouble sourcing a part. I need a 100K B CTR/CTS/DTNT pot, the fender part number is 0049443000. if you know of anywhere i can get one of these without having to have it shipped from the USA or even a non-fender alternative i would appreciate the info. Cheers TF

22. would you be interested in a trade? i have a fender toronado in bright yellow or a 2003(i think) mex 5 string jazz in wine red Cheers TF
23. if i remember correctly nitro doesnt like UV much. Could try a sunbed if you want the effect of sunbleaching in a short space of time just an idea i suppose not very practical if you dont work in some kind of beauty therapy place
