1. Bump. Sold the EQ and some black tuners. I've edited the first post with more detail and different sizes. BassJase asked what other stuff I had and he found something he was looking for, give me a PM and I might also have something you're looking for. I've got a large box full of bits and bobs. I could do with some extra money to buy myself a nice film SLR . Thanks for reading.
2. Just sold Jase a bass bridge, payment was fast and easy. Very friendly and open guy to message, it's nice to have a little conversation while PMing over a sale. Top guy!
3. Just sold Tom an amp. Got the payments through quickly and was very easy to talk to. Top guy!
4. Hey. The Bart pickups are for 5 string basses, they're the same length as the Wilkinsons (but not same width). oh and they're passive. Bassjase ; I'll Pm you, I have some stuff that may interest you. Velvet ; I'll PM you later tonight after I measure it up. I'll reply to all the other PM's now. Thanks for the interest! .
5. Hey, just selling a lot of stuff recently and now it's time to clear most of the stuff from my "bass project box". ^^ 2 Wilkinson soapbar pickups for £13 (including P & P). These are your average Ibanez SR size SOLD SOLD. ^^ Gold 5 string bridge. £8 (incl P & P). 16.5 mm string spacing. Finally, a slab of Bubinga. L : 45 cm, W : 35 cm and H : 8 cm. Collected from the southside of Glasgow. I have a lot more than I've typed out or photographed. if you have a project at the moment, ask me and I may have those parts. Thanks for reading! Edit - More items added further down the page.
6.
I might have a solution for you. I've only watched this being done (I'll check the details if you want) and haven't done it myself! The idea is pop off one of the dots on the front of the bass and then drill down so there's a hole to the truss rod channel (don't go through the rod!). Then, using a syringe, pump glue into the channel. When the glue sets the rattle stops. The best thing is that it costs pennies to do
Hey, thanks for the reply. I like that idea, as its only part of the truss rod that appears to be making noise and the drill could go straight to that area. Still, the idea of glueing a truss rod seems rather scary for some reason lol. I'll forward this on to anybody interested in buying the bass. Thanks again for the 2 replies!
7.
Try going around the bass checking every bolt and screw is tight. Look at the pickup screws as well as the pots themselves. Only needs something to be a little loose and maddening rattles start up. Also, see if the bridge saddles are seated properly. Sometimes the saddle can be in the right place, but the screw in the saddle isn't tightened down. It's strange that the bass becomes unplayable though...... I noticed you're in Glasgow, so if that doesn't work send me a PM and I'll be happy to have a look at it for you.
I must have missed this post first time around, sorry mate! I've checked every loose and tightened thing on this bass, the noise comes from the truss rod. If I put something onto the truss (like a screwdriver) and play, the screwdriver resonates at the same frequency as the rattle. The reason for the bump was this ; I have this bass up for sale and somebody PM'd me asking how much something like this would cost to get fixed? I'm guessing they'd glue round the truss rod. Does anybody have any experience with this or any ideas? Thanks for reading
8. I'm putting my Hartke HA 2500 head up for sale. http://www.samsontech.com/products/product...cfm?prodID=1794 ^^ All the information should be on their website. My reason for sale ; I don't need 250Ws for bedroom practice and i'm not in a band. The head and a cab were also too big for my tiny little room. Included in the sale will be the original box, the manual, the rack lugs (I can't remember the technical name at the moment!) and a speaker cable. Price wise, I'm thinking around £120? I'm not sure about postage prices at the moment, but i'll get back to you with a quote! Thanks for reading PS - if you'd like larger images or something else to be photographed, just PM me! Edit - SOLD
9. Hey, I'm putting my Warwick Rockbass Corvette up for sale. I'm going to warn off anybody looking for a simple "plug in and play bass" right now....sadly, the old 'Vette isn't one of those. So I bought her off here about a year ago, arrived all fine then after a few days I started realising something wasn't right. Thought it was just fret buzz, but over time I've came to the conclusion it's something more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHfO-LfDhQY As you can hear in the video, there's something wrong with the truss rod. The truss itself works, but when playing the A string the truss will harmonize with your playing. Positives now ; http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/Micehorns/ ^^ There's a few soundclips of the bass. In the mp3 titled "Warwick Rockbass Corvette Sounds" you can really hear how many different tones you can produce from this bass. The body is fine, the electronics are fine, the bridge is fine, the neck itself is fine just the truss rod that's faulty. Aswell as the tone, the bass itself looks beautiful. The rattle will leave if you detune past a half step or you use very light strings, I'm guessing the tension of standard tuning and/or standard gauge strings causes a problem with the truss. Please read through this before PM'ing me an offer, I wouldn't want somebody to buy this without fully understanding the troubles you'll encounter with it. I'm guessing somebody who wants a project will buy this bass. I'll take £130 (including postage and packaging) for it. I THINK that should be enough of a price drop considering any luthier work and/or parts. Thanks for reading . If you get the truss to stop making noise, you'll have a fantastic 5 stringer. Sadly I just can't be bothered with the hassle of this bass anymore. Edit - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=62956 ^^ Here are a few suggestions on how this bass may be fixed. I myself have adjusted the truss rod and it lessens the rattle, but it's still there. ON HOLD
10. Hey, I recently got a Rockbass 'Vette and i've started to notice a problem. Some days the neck doesn't rattle, some days it rattles only when I play a D (on any string) and some days it's nearly unplayable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pvUjURwNuU I made a video so you can hear the noise. This video was taken on a very bad day for rattling. On the video it sounds like fret buzz, but if you listen carefully you can hear fret buzz once in a while, to prove there are two different sounds going on. The sound is also followed by a vibration through the neck. I've noticed if I tilt the bass away from myself, the rattle completely stops. If I drop the B string by a half step (sometimes a full step) it helps to calm the rattling. When I detune to a full step down, there's no problems whats so ever. Which leads me to think that lower gauge strings may help? (for standard tuning) Any input or suggestions? Thanks for reading !
11. Hmm..was it this address? [Edit - Address details removed. Please don't post them here - there could well be other people living there who aren't involved. Thanks! Wateroftyne]
12.
Here you go. The Arietta in C is fairly straightforward- left hand plays the low notes and the right hand taps the high ones. Just practice each line seperately then put them together. The Pear Tree... is slightly more involved as the lines mix quite a lot- been meaning to do some kind of lesson on this for a while but never gotten round to it Both of these were transcribed on a 20 fret 4 string so should be playable on most basses. Let me know how you get on. Cheers Kyle
Hey, is it OK to bump old threads? I didn't want to start a new one. I downloaded these files when you posted them (I was a lurker back then) and I recently found the printed versions in my room. Got playing these two songs again and got addicted to tapping. So, I was wondering does anybody have any songs like these two? Thanks. PS - Good job with the tab, btw.
13. Hmm interesting. I've always wanted to try out their amps and cabs, a lot of Americans go on about how good these things are for the price and quality. Have a look at the BX500 for £256. I really like the look of that XB75 in purple though
14. None of my friends play an instrument, most of them don't have an interest in music full stop. So for the past 7 years i've just had to write by myself. I use things like Fruity Loops and sometimes Guitar Pro to write piano parts, and a drum machine to jam along to. I don't think I could write music with other people. not because I feel superior, but I think i'd feel way too exposed. It takes me about a week to fine tune a small little riff before I even let myself hear it in full lol.
15. I'm not that bothered about basses really, if it works then i'm happy. Do you think your judgement on a bass is clouded by it's price? As in, you'd be ashamed to admit your £1k bass doesn't sound as good as you imagined? And my last question to those with 'expensive' basses, after using these basses do you think the price you payed was the correct one? For the materials, the outcome and the sound. I can understand people saying 'feel' justifies the price, but on a more practical level i'm interested to hear the results. I also never understood this idea most people have about "Moving up" a bass, I can understand from a financial point of view, but when people move from a Squier Jazz to a MIM Jazz, I only see it being influenced by advertising. I completely disagree about this idea that moving up helps your bass playing.
16. Bought a MM style body from me. Paid the very next day even though I couldn't post the body for a week. Top guy!
17.
So is it £70 posted, right?
Well, my PC broke tonight so that's cool with me! If you're interested, we can take this to PM Take care.
18.
Would you be willing to post this?
Hey, yup posting it will be fine. It's a Yamaha btw, I put it in my Ibanez bass folder in Photobucket. Sorry for any confusion
19.
I'm a bit worried by that word "was". Is Southside music no more ? I used to drop in regularly when I lived in Govanhill - it was a great place and Charlie was a really pleasant guy to deal with.
Opps sorry, it's still open! I never venture into Govanhell anymore, so that's why I made it past tense. Yea he's a great guy, he wouldn't sell me a packet of strings for my guitar because "they were sh*te", so he gave me a slightly more expensive (£2) packet for the same price as the "sh*te" ones. Incase you're wondering why I could afford the extra £2, I was 14 and it was during school hours lol.
20. Hey there, I was playing my Yamaha tonight and decided I don't use it often enough to justify having it in my house and taking up space, so I thought I would offer it on here. So it's about 7 years old now, has some minor scrapes and a 1cm by 1cm area were the wood is showing on the back of the body. It's selling point would be it's neck ; it's fast and very thin, great for metal in my opinion. The one thing I didnt like about it was the Floyd Rose, I simply can't get to grips with them. So yea, a decent, cheap guitar that would be an introduction into a more 'metal' guitar or a nice project. How does £70 sound? Yamaha website If anyone is interested, i'll post more pictures tomorrow. Thanks for looking Ps - I cant post images tags in this thread....? . Picture from my photobucket
21. 1)This would be damn cool. 2)I think I'd be more interested in parts; bridges, pickups, tuning heads and the like. I would be nice to actually browse in a shop to see these things. Bass wise ; I think it would be nice to see a shop in Glasgow selling Schecters, Spectors, Peaveys, Trabens, the sort of £350 - £600 range. I havent been in Reverb yet, so I dont know if they are still the main dealer of Schecters and Spectors, so excuse me if im wrong. 3)I don't enjoy visiting shops to actually try instruments at all. I dont mind browsing the shops, but when it came to trying them out, I hated it. I liked McCormacks idea, of having a little music room. (Even though you could still hear the people in it..), it at least gave you a sense of privacy. 4)Last year I spent £50 lol... 5)Probably. Did anyone here visit Southside music, on Cathcart Road? I really liked how open and friendly that place was and I think that would be a nice idea for a shop. (although..without the dog walking about and the over stocked shop). How about getting in contact with a few of the local timber yards (Reids metalwork, Lanarkshire hardwoods, etc) and getting small things like fingerboard blanks done? Oh and as an unemployed student, can I have a job please?
22.
I decided to go with the Linseed oil idea (£3.80 for 500ml from B&Q). Just finished the first coat and it is looking sexy! (Very smooth and matt, at the moment). Gave it a good soak with the oil, keeping the finish wet for about 15 minutes by rubbing on more oil. Then used kitchen towel to remove all of the wetness from the finish, followed by some gentle buffing. I'll probably leave it overnight and repeat tomorrow, maybe using a scotchbrite pad to work the oil in with. How many coats might I need?
Hey, how did it finish? I'm still not convinced by my linseed finish at all.
23. Some attempt at subliminal messaging? I've spent 5 mins with Photoshop and it looks like jibberish to me "Tenno Sanive".
24. This was the song that made me want to play bass, I asked my music teacher at the time "What's that big guitar called?" aaand it was also the first song I ever tabbed out and posted on the internet (MX tabs, remember that website?), just the extended bass outtro from a live show, my friend and I sat up all night trying to tab out those 5 notes lol. Ah good times Oh found it on Youtube
