5. Hi hi I'm looking for 1 jazz standard to perform at an audition next year for university and wanted some advice. At the moment I have kind of got Blue bossa, autumn leaves and Spain under my fingers and now experimenting with different scale choices, chord scales and so on. Blue bossa and autumn leaves are typical and used a lot for auditions as I've read all over the net. I wanted to know if there are some other Latin, swing standards that are med/up tempo and have a 'buzz' to them if you know what I mean? Just something that'll keep you on your toes whilst soloing! open to all opinions !!
6. Hi Just wanted to know everyone's experience with this monster of a head. Cheap and loud with a lot of eq shaping is what is making me get this. Before I do just would like some input on this head cheer!

8.
I learned by playing along with vinyl. Moving the needle back again and again, till I had the passage in my head, then , playing along in real time. I'm convinced that's what made me as a player because, whilst its easier for people nowadays with YouTube and tabs online, I think a lot of people can't play in a band as they are stuck in ruts of playing in their bedrooms with no real conception of playing with other people. It might be a poor attitude, I just feel that getting down and learning by ear, is the best way to master a piece
so gathering from that I should be doing more working out by ear more than I'm doing now
9. Hi i just wanted to see how many people have this same problem or if I'm the only sufferer! it seems like when I first started playing I would use tab and then for other parts work them out by ear. As far as the lick or little Improv parts I would usually have the little melody in my head and then I would work it out. now it seems that all the melodies I have are being 'though' of through my fingers. Those patterns that you learn e.g. Pentatonic fills and so on. I know it comes with practice, playing what is in your head instantaneously but is there a way where you can 'unlearn' these patterns ? is there anyone else in the same kind of position ? love to hear responses!
10. Hi I was watching this review and saw this amazing jazz !! http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plpp&v=kTh69K9ezaU i just want to know about this as I cannot find a sunburst with maple an block inlays anywhere! Anyone have any info on this jazz bass?
11. I can play the chord tones one after the other fine but its when I come to soloing I get a little mixed up. It's the outlining each chord whilst soloing I get stuck on. I know it's not necessary to outline each chord but when you do what are the best 'notes' to work around or land on to prove that your not just soloing around the key centre Hope that makes sense
12. That's very useful, it puts the arpeggio work in a structure rather me learning peices of information ! The modes I've always dipped in and out of. I know the 'formula' for them but remembering which goes with what chord is a mystery in itself!
13. Hi I was looking for some guidance so I thought might as well start here! Recently I have been working on being a bit more melodic with my soloing, taking each chord into consideration and not just playing over the key centre. I've also been practicing different intervals as I read they help you when you solo ? My question is what types of excercises can you do to be able to produce more consonant, singing like lines when soloing? Or even any drills that really engage your brain to think about the harmonies that are played? Soloing and using each chord is for me very very difficult. Being used to just playing c minor over blue bossa, now I'm trying to incorporate the different modes and so on just for varied sounding lines. If there is a technique that has worked for you on soloing with different chords please let me know! Any help is greatly appreciated!
14. Hi I have just found this bass player and isn't he great! I just wanted to know before I start working out some of his licks etc. has anyone got any transcriptions of his solos, even bits n bobs would do do cheers guys
15. This maybe a little off topic but any news on the group classes he does ?
16. First time I've seen Nate slapping !!!!

18.
I started on the Music Production course back in 2006, switched the Popular Music BA after a semester. It was the best academic decision I've ever made. I understand the college was in financial trouble a few years back, and there were rumours of various mergers (I heard Leeds Met, then Bradford Uni) which then fell through. However, the last I heard, they were saved by some very good sponsorship deals - I heard Steinway and Ableton helped them, maybe a few others too? I also heard rumours that the three music undergraduate courses (pop, jazz and classical) were merged into one course - students could then choose modules in these areas. Don't know whether this is actually true, and I can't say which format would be preferable. Anyway, regardless of the way things are working there right now, it'll be a great decision if you do decide to go there. I met some brilliant musicians, many of whom have continued to be great friends and colleagues. The city and the surrounding areas such as Headingley & Hyde Park are very much student-centric, so it's a vibrant place to be (except outside of term time - it's completely dead then!). One final bit of advice: take all the opportunities you can manage. And take the course by the scruff of the neck - it doesn't guarantee anything afterwards. I refer to my BA as the most expensive piece of paper I ever bought. Hope that made some kind of sense.
thanks for the reply ? Btw, did you audition for a place when you decided to switch?
19.
You could try mailing Scott of Scottsbasslessons.com. He lives in Leeds. He's likely to know some folk in the area. He's also a member on here.
Thanks , will do !
20.
I did the jazz BA and had a great experience. Zoltan Dekany is the main bass tutor and is an incredible player and teacher. Leeds is a fantastic city and the college has a great reputation for the degree courses. ....That said I think the standard of all the main colleges seems really high at the moment and if you have the right attitude you can have an incredible experience at most of them. Its all about getting stuck into as many bands as possible and getting the most from the college. Good luck with the audition and let us know how you get on.
my auditions won't be for a while, next year. I just wanted some guidance on what kind of peices they want to hear and what is the audition process like ? I'm looking to get into the pop and jazz course !
21. Hi I'm just interested to see who, if anyone from here has been to this music college. If so, what was your experiences like from the beginning ? So from filling in uni forms, auditions and the overall course. Thanks for lookin !
22. So, don't know if its been mentioned ... Who's the bassist then that has been working with Bruno on the newest album?
23.
Just been told its at my house, can't wait to get home and see what it's like
You'll love it! I'm saving up for another
24. It's very bright and beefy, the MM sound for sure. Active circuit was crap though because I had it picking up lights etc, when shielded was ggreat The one I had was normal jazz weight and had a nice neck, really smooth and fast. The one you snapped up was the one I was eyeing up ! i want one again !
