1. Hi I'm selling my genz head. Only been used once and is in MINT condition. Can be collected from Dudley,West Midlands. I'll add some pictures but it is really the same as the pics online. just to let you know, I'm looking for a nice fender P bass, preferably in 3TS £350 + P&P ono
2. Anyone ever been asked to record a bass line and you sit there not trying to linger away from the root! I'll play the same song in my practice and it'll sound so good but when you hit record its like my fingers just want to stick at the root and the occasional chord tone!
3. I'm just trying to ask in a studio kind of context. I don't know if my post Dosent portray what I'm thinking about !
4. Hi guys So lately I've been playing a lot of lines from Pino and this struck me. Let me play it within Pino's context and try and emulate what that session would've felt like. This then made me to think even more about, am I over playing, underplaying, are my note choices good, am I creating a groove that fits well and so on. Again, this led me onto finding backing tracks in genres I prefer, eg soul, funk and thought okay if I was in a session at this moment with guys that want me to lay down a bass part, what am I going to do ? Then we're back to my original am I playing too much, feel etc. I guess what I'm asking here is when do you feel that the bassline that you have created for a 'session' is good enough or does the job. I know sometimes less is more but when you want to add more, how much are you likely to add ? Also, when do you know that your playing is maturing over a certain time ? (I don't know it sounds silly but that's how I would phrase it) I would love to hear stories of guys doing work in studios and finding the right grooves etc
5. Hi Could someone reccomend me some tracks that Nathan has played on. I know he's one of the best sessions bassists out there so really would like to work out some of his stuff and see what he's doing. Thanks
6. cheers guys appreciate it
7. Hi, so I've been asked to provide a video for audition for different universities that I'm applying to and wondered how you guys capture your video and audio. At the moment I have recording equipment for sound but its just the video that I'm a little worried about. Do you just record yourself and then video edit the audio with the sound that has been recorded (I'll be using Logic Pro) any advice would be helpful pthanks
8. Lightening fast payment and a great chap. Would love to deal again in the future !
9. Sold guys !
10. SOLD!!!! I've had this for 2 months now and need something bigger. It is loud as hell which wasn't something I expected from this 300W amp. It has a nice 'Phat' controller which I put all the way for that nice Marcus style slap sound. It thickens the low and tightens up the treble. 3 band EQ, XLR out, tweeter control, external speaker out (jack), ground lift switches, aux and headphone Collected from Sandwell area or shipped £30 within uk Manraj
11. Random note! mine does start to get static only when my batteries are low. It does munch it's way through a set of batteries, mine lasts around 4 weeks max with about 1hour a day.
12. Standing in the shadows of Motown ! (If it has been mentioned sorry!) if you love James Jamerson and Motown you'll love this! Ge the DVD as well! Also a load of his best work being played by some of the best right now, marcus miller, pino palladino etc.
13.
Hi guys, I was wondering, what would you recommend to practice some bass at night - with headphones? So far I've found things such as this: http://www.amazon.co..._pr_product_top which might do the trick, but I've no idea if it will sound good or not. What do you guys use for your covert practicing? I do like to play the bass randomly and don't want to have to set up my full sized bass amp to just plug the headphones into the back of it. Cheers. Vlad
what I've done is gone and gotten some decent JVC in ear headphones (£20) and I've been using the Vox Amplug thing. A gain, volume and tone control on the device and it plugs straight into the jack of your bass. It's also got an aux to play along or to work stuff out, which is why I use it mostly. I'd also say that it sounds even better than my amp! (Then again I haven't got the best 1 in the world)
14.
I did in Birmingham. All they wanted is good solid well thought walking and then I had to play melody and improvise over as much as you can. I started with head twice after I was walking and piano was improvising than just comping for couple of choruses and than head again and finish. Prepare some tune and work on it everyday and play over in more keys they want you to improvise and not looking for scale over all neck but they want you to know the tune very well so you can play it with closed eyes... Where are you auditioning?
i was looking at the conservatoires for jazz and LCOM for popular music. I thought 1 standard and a more technical peice showing my skills as a bass player would seal the deal. Any thoughts?
15.
I have done audition this year and they usually want to see you walking over changes and play head and improv All the things you are is good but have look what do they advice even try to get lesson with the lecturer from where you want to apply.
Where did you audition for ?
16.
I'd have some more modal stuff up your sleeve too - So What springs to mind.
Would you reccomend so what just to show i can play modally as well as playing around one key type of thing ?
17.
Moon dance? On a more serious note, four on six is a good one although maybe not an iconic standard
I don't think there looking for set in stone standards , nice choice
18.
All The Things You Are Have You Met Miss Jones
i was thinking about all the things you are but there are so many versions on the tube. Any recommendations bilbo ?
19. Hi hi I'm looking for 1 jazz standard to perform at an audition next year for university and wanted some advice. At the moment I have kind of got Blue bossa, autumn leaves and Spain under my fingers and now experimenting with different scale choices, chord scales and so on. Blue bossa and autumn leaves are typical and used a lot for auditions as I've read all over the net. I wanted to know if there are some other Latin, swing standards that are med/up tempo and have a 'buzz' to them if you know what I mean? Just something that'll keep you on your toes whilst soloing! open to all opinions !!
20. Hi Just wanted to know everyone's experience with this monster of a head. Cheap and loud with a lot of eq shaping is what is making me get this. Before I do just would like some input on this head cheer!
21.
I learned by playing along with vinyl. Moving the needle back again and again, till I had the passage in my head, then , playing along in real time. I'm convinced that's what made me as a player because, whilst its easier for people nowadays with YouTube and tabs online, I think a lot of people can't play in a band as they are stuck in ruts of playing in their bedrooms with no real conception of playing with other people. It might be a poor attitude, I just feel that getting down and learning by ear, is the best way to master a piece
so gathering from that I should be doing more working out by ear more than I'm doing now
22. Hi i just wanted to see how many people have this same problem or if I'm the only sufferer! it seems like when I first started playing I would use tab and then for other parts work them out by ear. As far as the lick or little Improv parts I would usually have the little melody in my head and then I would work it out. now it seems that all the melodies I have are being 'though' of through my fingers. Those patterns that you learn e.g. Pentatonic fills and so on. I know it comes with practice, playing what is in your head instantaneously but is there a way where you can 'unlearn' these patterns ? is there anyone else in the same kind of position ? love to hear responses!
23. Where can I get one !???
