1. I wish I had stuck to one thing for longer , as it is I'm primarily a guitarist playing bits of blues, rock , pop, jazz , country and fingerstle acoustic and now I'm playing Bass (and enjoying it a lot more!) So I've ended up being a Jack of all trades but master of none !
2. Pics asap thankyouplease !
3. Is this a Mexican Fender or a CIJ one , and does it have a case/gigbag ? Thanks
4. Hello , anyone tried out an Eggle Milan 4 string ? What did you think of it and how did it sound ? any opinions welcome ... thankyouplease
5.
I have an E2 headrush in mint condition if your interested in a second hand one .... ?
Which has now been sold to the very nice "dandini " Pleasure doing business !
6. I'm interested in this mod and any others you care to suggest too , I'm loving my VM jazz ^_^ Can anyone tell me if there is a bit of hum generated when you turn down the volume of either pick up ? Mines does this and as I'm new to bass I wasn't sure is it's a characteristic (Stratocasters have a tendancy to do the same) or if my pickups are borked ! Cheers

8. I'm 35 , been playing Bass on and off for about 15yrs , only really dabbling as I've primarily been a guitarist since I was 18 until about 5 weeks ago . Got an audtion with a power pop band and have been playing my fingers off since and really enjoying it ! I play 4 string (Squier VM Jazz) and also have a 5 string Hohner and an electro acoustic Aria. Style wise I'm playing solid but melodic lines (McCartneyesque) with fingers mostly but wouldn't rule out using a pick should the song dictate it . I've only got a 10w practice amp at the moment but hope to get a nice Mark Bass rig if I pass the audition and get the gig (the band have gigs booked at places like The Cavern Club !). So In summary I'm an enthusiatic novice/chancer !
9. Bass is my secondary instrument as I'm primarily a rhythm guitarist , but a few weeks ago I got an audition with a great band playing Bass , I've always had a bass knocking about for studio demos and jamming etc and I thought ....why not ! and ever since I've been loving it I've really got into bass in a big way and am having more fun than I've had in the last 10 years as a guitarist ! I also do BV's and play percussion (Cajon , Cajinta , Congos etc) .
10. Blame it on the Boogie (Awesome Bassline!!), Can you feel it by The Jacksons Disco Inferno - The Tramps Anything by Chic or Earth,Wind and Fire Get Down Tonight , That's the way I like it - KC and the Sunshine Band most of Hot Chocolate's greatest Hits
11. My Nephew has a fretted 4 string , It's light , comfortable and sounds good !
12. "Blister in the sun" and Please do not go" by the Violent Femmes
13. Nathan East played some monster stuff with Phil Collins and Eric Clapton in the 80's . Also Brian Ritchie of the "Violent Femmes" is an awesome player .
14. My faves for the 70's (today are ) 1. Bernard Edwards - Chic 2. Norman Watt-Roy 3. Paul McCartney - Wings (if only for the Bassline in "Silly Love songs") 4. John Deacon - Queen 5. John paul Jones - Led Zeppelin
15.
...The bass player from Wishbone Ash, only the name escapes me at the moment.
Martin Turner?
16. "Hit me with your rhythym stick" ... if I could play that I'd be a very happy chappy indeed !
17.
I'd much rather buy in stores if possible, even if it costs extra. The only time I'd make an exception is for real budget stuff (under £150) where its worth a gamble. For example, I'd rather spend £700 in store than £600 online. There's a number of reasons for this. Firstly, QC - i like to play the exact bass I'll be taking home and I find quality can vary across all brands. Secondly, the desire to support retailers. I like music shops, I'd like them to keep trading. I demonstrate this by putting my money where my mouth is and purchasing from them! Thirdly, I like the personal touch. Its nice to be able to take something back to a shop if there's an issue. Fourthly, £100 really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things! Its strange really, a lot of people are very specific about the origins of products (buying fair trade coffee, avoiding using supermarkets if they can by the produce from a local independent store) but will happily use a music shop to try and then opurchase online seperately. I can understan why, but as I say, its not really my thing. As long as these people don't complain when a music shop shuts down, then I'm not really bothered either way. Sanctimonious?? Me??
Big +1 here , For things like fx and stands etc I'd go online more often than not but for instruments It's great to try the actual instrument before you part company with your hard earned and I like to go into a shop and look around at what's new and used and if there are any S/H bargains to be found .
18. Wow ! Thanks for the positive feedback , I really wasn't expecting it as I say it was my first attempt at recording the bass on my own , so just fiddled with the onboard pre-amp until I got a sound I liked that seemed to suit the track . Ideally it would have an upright Bass on it ... Thanks fellas
19. Hello , newbie here asking for some feedback on my first outing recording bass parts myself , Its a Bossa Nova , all guitars and Bass recorded by me over some percussion loops . I used an Aria amb 50 acoustic Bass straight into the computer with a bit of light compression on a VST during mixing . I've been a rhythym guitarist for donkeys years but only really beginning to play bass so please be gentle with me Thanks Stu Sticks Bossa
20. And another vote for the Behringer mic - we use both Shure Sm58's and Behringers in my band and there ain't a lot of difference in it , after years of using '58s I now prefer the Behringer !

Hello !

Hi There ! Been directed here from the musicradar forums so please be gentle with me ... I've been a guitarist for 18 yrs or so and have played "Studio/Jamming Bass" for a lot of those years . Last year I bought meself one of the Squier VMJ basses and very nice it is too . I've recently been approached to audition for a Power Pop/Britpop type band as Bassist (think Squeeze/Blur/McCartney Basslines) and if that goes well I'll have to invest in a new bass and giggable amp or head and cab I also have an Aria electro Acoustic Bass and a Hohner BBass 5 string that I've used over the years for various bits and bobs in the home studio. Anyhoo that's enough about me for the time being , looking forward to joining in and (hopefully) getting some good advice and support ! Cheers Stuart
