1. Here's a quick look at my new -old Gibson G-3 1977 model, alder Body, 3 single coil Bill Lawrence Pups(selectable as neck two, all 3, bridge 2-all in humbucking mode) Has a real mid honk-in a good way! Sounds really '70's if ya know what I mean. Will post more after gigs this weekend!
2.
Fair enough......which cab would you pair with the V4BH to get the best out of it? Im talking P Bass with flats, blues/soul/r&b sounds....
BERGANTINO NV610!!! NO questions!!! It's an AMPEG 810 cab KILLER in a package 1/2 the weight & far easier to move. Absolutely KILLS the 810- & AFAIK was designed to sound like the OLD Ampeg 810 straight back cab. I've never heard one of those, but I DO know that the NV610 with my V4BH sounds simply superb!! Low notes sound like explosions!! & this cab has SO much more clarity than the SVT410HLF I had previously- a mud bucket IMO. If U can- try one w/ the V4BH- but in a gig/band setting this combo absolutely KILLS!!!!!!
3. :-) It's FATE alright!!! Glad U got yr live sound working. There can be a great deal of goodness in a simple EQ IMO. The standard Ampeg SVT type EQ- BAss, Mid & mid freq, Treble can be great & SIMPLE!!! Of course there is a place for semi parametric EQ's etc... I like the simple stuff meself. & even in "HARD to get good sound" rooms one can almost always dial in a good sound. I play one room where the bottom end just BLOOMS!!!! & it's very hard to get a good sound, but a darn good wind off af the bass usually works.... & sounds good out front.
4. +1 to all above. MY rig of choice is my SVTII & Bergantino NV610... But the LMII does a superb job at ANYTHING I've had to do. It sounds great thru the Berg NV215(better than thru the 610 IMO) - fat as all heck! The filters- I too use these almost exclusively-altho it IS nice to have the EQ there for when needed. But I find the filters easy as pie to use-DEFINATELY don't need anyone to 'give me a starting point' Tho hold no grudge if you do. I USUALLY set the VLE at about 8pm to give a li'l touch of 'old-school', then sometimes add a touch less of the VPF. If I want a real motown style vibe-I just add more VLE-about 10-11oclock. Sure the small/light gear hasn't the earth rattling thunder of the BIG RIGS(4x12" or 6x10 etc..) but it certainly does all itneeds to do & more IME.
5. The floor!!!! It's called Coupling!! :-)
6. Agree with the Above reply. That PV cab should be fine if it's a good price etc... & peavey DO make good quality stuff- reliable & built well etc... Hartke LH500 is s'posed to be great!! I haven't tried it apart from at a shop-where It sounded great! haven't tried the PV amp- but refer to comments above re - Peavey HArtke cabs are fine too, But I'd probly go w/ the PV - just MY preference re these 2 cabs! They do make things that'll work w/ anything... combo's!! ;-) Impedance & power handling etc are IMPORTANT factors in regards to an amp/cab. In short- that 4x10 PV should be a GREAT improvement on your 1x15" Does your amp put out 300w at 4 ohms?? If so into ONE 8 ohm cab it'll put out about 1/2 power(not that THAT will be only 1/2 as loud... not at all, will be almost as loud) but it WILL alow U to add another 8 ohm cab at a later date if needed. OR U could get ONE 4 OHM 4x10 cab & run yr amp at full power into it.

SX rat!

Thats one of my fave warm up lines that- what a groove!!! SX RAT sounds great!!!
8. Tha's a nice one!!! Love the radical triangle fret markers!!!! :-0
9. U said it.... Mark Bass! Especially now... there may be some LMII's comin up 4 sale. I got a LMII & it never ceases to amaze me. I'm an ALL TUBE guy- favouring my V4BH or SVTII whenever I can, but sometimes I just take the LMII & a cuppla 1x12"s for easiness & WOW the sound is powerful, LOUD & VERSATILE!!! Even the LMII thru the Big Berg 2x15 cab is superb, add a good Bass OD(VT-Bass, Bass Big Muff, Russian Big Muff, Bad Monkey... etc..) U got a Growling monster!!! Hard to beat IMO. re cabs- I use Berg AE112 & Aguilar GS112, or the Berg NV's. I'd RATHER 2 AE112's, but $$$ isn't forthcoming atm..... Any 2x12" would no doubt sound great w/ Mark Bass LMII- 2x112's would be MY choice-as U can simply take ONE for small gigs!
10. I think they're a darn good bit of FUN kit. I DID gig mine a few times... but really got 'A' sound I liked & stuck to it after a while ....so I just got the amp.. :-) BUT IMO the V-AMP 's amp models etc are pretty good- especially the GUITAR ones- excellent!! Some of the FX are OK too. I made a great P-FUNK keys bass sound!! I don't use mine now either- but it occasionally comes out so I can prac along w/ a CD w/ headphones!! Good cheap stuff IMO.
11. You've probly seen this in the thread ... But I'll JOIN in here. LOVE 'em. GRECO 1978 RB700N Sounding better everytime I play it too.
12. HEy THANX for the info & LINKS. Gig went OK- had to do a li'l adjusting re the pups height etc... But all in all she SOUNDS LOVELY. It actually has OLD roundwounds on it. Quite possibly the 2nd set ever on it. The orig. flats it came with are included! Will add more after more gigs & experience. Thanx again. Rod
13. Sheeeeiiiiit!!!! Deja vu.... the ol' brain's a bit dodgy these days!! Sorry! Yeah it sounds great. will report after a few gigs!
14. No! But I use the MARKBASS bass holder & bass stand- both-especiallly the holder- work great!
15. 1978 MINT condition Greco Ric copy. w/ a few minor upgrades- CTS pots put in,, I WAS thinkin re new RIC or SD pups, but the ones in it sound great! A/B'd it with a similar year Real RIC last nite & was eeerily similar!!! VERY close sounding!! & I think the main prob w/ mine were simple things like the pup height for example. Sounds SUPERB thru my Tube amps!!! I know in these pics the PUP cover is mountd on OUTSIDE.... it's NOW been rectified & is mounted underneath. BUT I may visit www.pickguardian.com & get some of their Ric bridge pup surrounds.... Cheers, Rod
16. I got the EXACT same rig!! LMII & GS112, & adding another GS112 or as U say a GS112NT IMO is THE way to go!!! I LOVE the sound of the GS112- clean rich & classy all the way!!!!! 2 will just make it MORE Than DOUBLY as good. I'm trying this atm & am VERY impressed!!! PLENTY of volume for almost ANY situation.......... Almost makes me wonder if I need my Berg NV cabs,,,,??? ALMOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The LMII REALLY shines with this 2 x GS112 rig IMO. They compliment each other superbly!

I'm off to NZ.

There's DEF. a market for FUNKY DANCE style stuff.... LOTSA islanders there who LOVE their funk!! As long as it's got Sooouuul!!!! Good luck Man!!
18. Picked this up a few days ago. Will do it's 1st gig (with me-& looks like with ANYBODY) tonite-Fri. in our classic rock band. Damn near NEW condition, in OHSC & with orig Greco polish cloth & sales tags!!! 1978?!?!? Feels LOVELY to play, sounds warm & pretty versatile- quite dark w/ neck pup, & 'bitey' w/ bridge pup! DAMN near NEW- Oh I said that.... Next to ZERO fret wear- no dings..... Hope I can keep it that way too! REALLY looking forward to tonites gig w/ it. Opinions???? Anyone with any links or info on these'd be appreciated also! I mean I know it was built in '78 in the Matsomuko(??) Factory-Japan... Fender Bought that co. right??? Became Fender Japan??? That right too?? Cheers, Rod
19. I use a LMII & recently got an AE112- am AMAZED at the power of the AE112... I have an Aguilar GS112 also & the BErg is MUCH louder & just as good if not better tonally. For what U R doing ONE AE112 MAY just do it- it IS a LOUD (& light) 112, & if U R going thru the FOH PA then NO worries. But 2 of the AE112's & U got a rig that'll handle almost ANYTHING!!! The Berg AE112 is so nice I'm gonna sell the GS112-even tho together they sound nice, but the Bergie is just drowning it out. MUSICMAN 20 Berg make MANY-well a couple of 410's IIRC, but the NV610 Bergantino is IMO the BEST 610 out there & as far as I've tested beats ANY 810's also. Apparently it was designed to sound like the OLD Ampeg 810 straightback cab, & since I know of No-one with one of those I cant compare, but I DID A/B test the NV610 with a (modern)Ampeg SVT810E & the NV610 KILLED it - TOTALLY!!!!! tone, handled more volume, lighter, smaller, easier to transport, lift....................etc... No comparison IMO!! AND as I used to own an Ampeg SVT410HLF cab I can compare it to that too- again NO comparison. The SVT410HLF was Heavier & harder to move about, didn't sound as clear or articulate, {but still the Berg sounded more 'vintage' (?)} Ampeg410 was heavier than the NV610 also!!!!!! BUT if U R after a light 410 the AE410 looks pretty good to me! Yeah I like Berg. cabs, but only coz they've proven themselves to me!
20.
another HH lover here...bass machine and 2 15's -- never played an amp i've liked the sound of better!
+1 on that being MAINLY a venue/posioning situation. I've had same issues with MY own rig- which I LOVE & 95% of the time get a GREAT sound!!!!! Just SOME rooms enhance certain freqs' & U get a 'BLOOM' of MUD!!!!!! Played a venue a few weeks ago where ANY note from G to B sounded Sh^%!!!!!! in ANY position -any octave. Another venue we play in regularly has SUCH a BASSY sound I have to wind my BASS control almost OFF- compared to other venues where I use it flat or sometimes at 1 o'clock. I didn't used to like the MB cabs- OR the amps really- but I bit it & bought a LMII & it NEVER ceases to amaze me with it's tone & power & versatility!!!! & the cabs I used to not like much, but after trying one for -more than a half hour- I actually started to get some GREAT sounds outta it. It was a 6x10" - I like MY Bergantino NV610 MUCH better, but IMO the MB 610 was a better cab-build/tone/weight-wait make that lack of WEIGHT- than another 610 that was there- a SVT610HLF- which I like also!!!
21. I don't reckon MY LMII will be going anywhere. I like it heaps & have two all tube amps...so I'm cool with the LMII as it is. Sure a mute, pre/post'd be good.....hmmmm ;-) We'll see what they go 4 $$$$$$!!!??????? In AUS that is.
22.
when my $$ came through it worked for 20seconds then died. I thought it was broken! After multiple worryings and giving the electrics a look I changed the battery just in case and lo and behold, the simplest fix ever
& the REAL funny bit is- ya could've pulled UP the vol. pot & gone passive anyway I like the way the $$ is same vol. in passive & active mode- just has EQ w/ active!!
23. I've gotten darn good deals for D'addario Chromes off ebay. 2 pack for $50 AUS!! They're nice flats too
24. If U R after JUST the passive P tone then the RH sig is a waste of $$ but I got one o' these & damn it's a fine bass- passive OR active. In passive mode U aint got any tone adjustments available- except whats on offer from pup blend, which is a fair bit, it's a great combo of pups IMO. So IF U R just after this- get a standard P-bass- which ever model U like. BUT I cannot rate the RH Std sig highly enough. I'ts a great bass. Has it's OWN sound- LOTSA growl, & a DEEP P sound in active OR passive mode. It's actually a pretty close sound in passive or active mode- just with an obvoiusly powerful 3 band EQ in active. It's close to being MY fave outta MY EBMM 'ray 5, Warwick $$ & a MIA jazz S1 !!!!!!
25. That Ric-o-shine looks nice. I seee on their site it says it comes w/ SD pups too !!!?!?!?
