  1. He's declined my offer as he's got an old mate looking at it next week and has given him first refusal. I've said I'm happy to give him £600 if his mate doesn't want it so we'll just have to wait and see now.
  2. This is true and I didn't think of that. My Club bass doesn't 'feel' as short as it actually is on a strap. Sat down it's not an issue though.
  3. Hofner Ignition series Club bass or Violin bass. Slim neck, short scale, very light, very good useable range of tones and between £250 & £300 new. Both available in black or sunburst.
  4. Thanks for the info @Misowaki, I'm not too worried about the drive, quiet roads down here this time of year and a 100 mile trip will only be £15 in fuel. I'll see what he says about my offer. They seem to be appreciating in value so if I did buy at full price but not get on with it after a while then maybe just stash it for a couple of years until I could easily sell to my money back. A lot of people saying if you find a P Aero at a decent price just buy it as they're a bit rare, so who knows.
  5. That red one is nice and I do prefer a slimmer neck. But there's just something about the P body shape if prefer over the J body shape. I've done a bit more hunting and a few people are describing the neck as J profile or somewhere between the two so hopefully not too chunky. And the big one is I'm not really up for spending the best part of a grand. I've sent him an offer of £500 so we'll see what he says. The ad says he's seen another bass he wants so needs to sell and open to offers.
  6. We haven't had a gig for few weeks and I'm getting bored, and then I start spending money 🤣
  7. I've messaged the seller and might go have a look. It's a hundred mile round trip though so wanted to be fairly sure. If it had a maple board that would clinch it.
  8. Yes, just found this on some other (ahem) bass forum. Commercial User
  9. I've no idea, I'm really not up on my models at all. I saw it and loved it. Any info good or bad about these is welcome.
  10. I know it's worth what someone's willing to pay, but I just wanted a ballpark figure. If I bought it and kept it I wouldn't really care but as it's an oddball P, so to speak, I don't want to pay too much in case I need to move it on a year down the line. He's open to offers so if I got it down a bit then that's probably about right I suppose.
  11. What do we think about £650? It seems steep if the one in that ad sold for £360, though that was nearly ten years ago. Doubled in that time, I don't know.
  12. I don't even know if I'll like the tone compared to a traditional P, but wanted an idea on value before I make the journey to try it.
  13. Hmm it's considerably more than that. I'm useless when it comes to the value of basses as I don't really keep up with what's what. He wants £650
  14. I'm confused, were they released in 03/04? This one is a 94 apparently. 🤔
  15. Hello all, I've seen an Aerodyne Precision for sale that I have fallen for, just not sure what I should be paying as you don't seem to see many P's, plenty of J's but not P's, maybe that should tell me something. It's a '94 CIJ trans blue flamed maple, cream binding, good condition and the seller has fitted a cream pearloid scratchplate (original included) which I like even though I really don't like pearloid normally. Comes with a hard case. The back of the neck and headstock has some lovely grain. So the big question, what is a fair price? I want to clarify, this is not my bass (yet) and this isn't a work around of the selling fees. Thanks 🙂
  16. Bullet proof is good, super clean is not what I want to hear about a valve amp. Having no input gain to drive it harder doesn't help I suppose, but a valve pre amp built in that could be driven may help. I've got my PJB for super clean, I want some old valve warmth from this. I'm going to try it at the weekend with a cab and put a pre amp pedal in front of it just to see whether it's worth persuing. Else I'll end up spending money and time on a really cool looking amp that sounds meh.
  17. I'm not a stalker, just googling for info and found a thread on a Telecaster forum which matched your posts above 👍
  18. Danelectro or Hofner. I have a Hofner Club bass as I don't like the Beatles association of having a violin bass. It's only the cheapest out of the three levels but is closer in construction to the real deal than the mid priced one and sounds great, really great. Its so light that band mates have picked up the case to load it and question if it's empty. Likewise I have a Danelectro Longhorn that I love but it does feel fragile, unlike the Hofner. It also sounds great but in a different way. Brand new Hofner Clubs should be sub £300 too (maybe even as little as £250) which a fantastic price for such a great bass.
  19. Yes, this is all just thinking out loud at the moment, I'll get the amp checked over before I do anything and see what it's like with one of the celestions in a cabinet. Are you 'Mart the Hat' BTW?
  20. Thanks @itu, some good info there and I'll watch the clip later when I've got some peace and quiet. @Reggaebass, I know what you mean. There's something 'mad scientist' about them that this glowing glass tube is amplifying my sound.
  21. Thanks @Beer of the Bass, I thought logically it must be the bias out making one run hot. I'd like to learn about these things and although I know little about it now I grasp things like this pretty quickly. I'm not going to do anything silly though. I've had enough shocks to know I don't much like them. I found a retired audio engineer who liked to tinker a few years ago who looked at an amp for me, I might see if he's still tinkering. Ideally, and this may seem mad or just plain unfeasible, I like to take out the solid state pre and put my Peavey valve pre in, remove all the unnecessary inputs just leaving one and then build a shiney housing to show off the valves, like the Ashdown Little Bastard with the top removed.
  22. It's not the worst named tool brand. I could pull my drawers open and show you my King D!ck.
  23. If you went with a darker stain, the edges of the darker 'repair' could be airbrushed to disguise it as a stronger area of quilting. If it's still noticeably darker then a similar mirrored area could be done to make it look book matched. It's hard to say without seeing the area in question.
  24. The markings on the smaller one before I wiped them off.
  25. I took the valves out to give them a clean as they were thick with dust and all markings promptly wiped of as well. They were Telefunken so I assume original. One looks perfect but one has blackened on the inside creating a mirrored look from outside. Is that normal for old valves or is it on the way out? They both glow the same when powered up. You can see the 'mirroring' on the left one around both sides of the flat plate, I guess this is the hottest area on the outside where the plate is closest to the glass.
