1.
I imagine so, would be a cool claim though. Glad the letter meets approval. It's just been sent to the sun, the star, the mail and i. I've also just messaged Jason at rotosound again.
I wish I had that kind of focus! Oh look, a squirrel!
 2.
Ah, that'd be me! I don't think I'm a witch, as I weigh more than a duck, but I do have a pointy hat somewhere (unless the clothes moths have eaten that one too). The departing bassist, LawrenceH is also on here, though more of an occasional visitor to BC at the moment. Hey McNach, you and he could compare notes on the rest of us!
Hehe, I knew it was you McNach told me about the band when he auditioned first.
 3.
this is the issue that seems to be the main problem so why not specifically address this issue if you are trying to release and move a finger to next position and its getting there audibly late you need to concentrate on your thinking time concentrate a couple of notes before the rogue note and then make a concious effort to move it a fraction sooner thus making sure it arrives where it should right on the beat - its a combination of the thinking time and the physical reaction time and more practice will improve your playing overall in this respect - or you could just carry on doing it the lazy way (because it sounds ok) and continue enjoying the torment of your own frustration
This is sound advice. If you're playing something that is too fast for you, you should always slow it down, break it up and learn it piece by piece, then speed it up gradually. It's an effective way to learn, and you will learn how to play it at the right speed without using the "wrong" part of your finger. Let's not forget there are nerves that run through that part of the finger, and pinching a nerve is NEVER fun!
 4.
This thread has got me going. I'm looking to start a band from scratch but I fear I won't be able to because I'm punctual and organised. For example, I attempted to meet up with a singer for coffee recently. After waiting for an hour, I left. We tried twice more and she was late each time. "I don't do late", I said and I was told off for being inflexible and unrealistic when dealing with musicians. I might as well give up forming a band right now then.
Yeah, because you aren't a musician, are you? So how would you know what it's like dealing with musicians, considering you don't have any musical ability. What an absolute wab that "musician" is, and I wouldn't even give them the time of day. In my eyes, if somebody keeps me waiting for an hour without a good reason (and that means an emergency or unavoidable circumstance) then they aren't worth my time.
 5.
I mean I know there are no bass police out there so I know I wont be arrested but I cant help feeling naughty for doing this but is it ok to use your index finger to fret a note then using it to bar the other strings so you arent using the pad of the finger but the whole finger instead? An example might give you all a better understanding of my crime. While playing the octave part of Hysteria by muse I play the root with the pad of my index finger then the octave with my pinky. Now when I go back to the root again with the pad of my index I am just not quick enough to release it and use the pad again to play the seventh and hammer on to the octave so I kind of bar it instead. Two questions, does anyone follow my lousy description and does anyone else play it like this?
It's fine. Probably not the best way, I would think, but if it works for you, that's fine. There are many ways to skin a cat, as they say. I usually use the main body of my fingers just to mute the other strings so I don't get any unwanted notes. If I'm playing the 7th note though, I use my second finger.
 6.
Another fun night for the relay. £28 in the pot. I played the baton for the whole gig, personally I think this 'one song' business is a bit of a wimp-out. Anyway, including GAZM's £62 for last Friday, that's £186 for the cause in one week. Who's next? let's keep this moving!! (I'm the 11th name on the shirt)
Wow, that's fantastic! Well done
 7.
Well... I guess it wasn't all so bad, as I got offered the position by txt as I was going home from the second jam/audition thing... The New Urban Frontier have a new bass player! (and the guitarist is a really good bass player and a member of BC!)
So... what you're saying is - We have a traitor in our midst? Let the witch-hunt commence
 8.
The MiltyMan cometh!
Oh, it cometh alright. It cometh with great vengeance.
 9.
Dummies? When it comes to bands, the only safe way to proceed is to assume everyone is a dummy (or a flake, a drama queen or a deluded fantasist) until proven otherwise. And even then, people can seem quite normal for 6-12 months, then they suddenly say they can't do a gig because it's near an abbatoir and they became a vegetarian just last week. As for singists, I remember one guy showing up for a jam / audition with an 'armoured' mic cable. I remarked upon this novelty. 'It has to be armoured, I'm a very energetic performer' says he. Have you got your own PA? 'No' What mic do you use? 'I borrow one from my mate. Dunno what it is. It's plastic.' But you've got your very own, personal armoured mic cable? 'Oh yes'. Dummy.
... Why do singers think that's alright? To not have a mic, and a backup mic, incase, oh I dunno, one breaks? Why was it more important to him to have an heavy duty lead than to have a mic at all!? HE'S A SINGER! The mic and the lead are literally the only things he needs! Even then, he still wouldn't spend as much as the drummer, guitarist or bassist on gear. Pretty sure you can get a decent vocal mic for a couple hundred. Honestly.
 10. Just get a set of bright rounds. Don't get Roto bass strings though. They suck!
 11. Yes yes, thanks Skol, but I don't know how to install the plugin into Logic. Is it ironic that Logic is called Logic?
 12. I might get a custom preamp made. I was thinking of using an ACG style preamp, but I'd need to change the controls on it I think.
 13.
With piezos, the impedance load on them is really important, needs to be really high, so would need to check the impedance on the preamp. I've jsut used a piezo bridge, and a Super hard on style buffer.
Cheers. But is there any way to run a piezo preamp in conjunction with a standard electro-magnetic pickup preamp? This idea is getting pretty complex, but if I have the money for this, I seriously am going to do it, because I just like to experiment with this stuff.
 14. Oh! I'm messing around with Logic atm, and I found a meter limiter thingy. Don't know if it's the same as the K-meter, but if I set it at 0db, it will do the same job, surely?
 15.
At this rate thats only a matter of time!
Well then you'll be able to write a song about it and be the Johnny Cash of Brighton. Don't forget to slip in a few mentions about Kentucky red-eye whiskey.
 16.
Oh gosh no not at all! BC is getting better all the time but I see a lot of moaning and apathy concerning the updates. So my comment was in relation to that, ped announces a big and helpful change and no one comments.
Probably more than likely to do with a lower number of people visiting this forum and generally not giving much heed to the update because there is nothing for them to complain or argue about in it.
 17. We all know this is just part of the grand scheme to expand BassChat, and make it into a multi-national conglomerate, where they can amass millions in revenue each year and pay 4/5ths of naff all in tax Honestly though, good work
 18. So, I've been thinking (Yes, run, run for your life!). Remember my Miltyman Jazz Musicman crossover bass? Well, it's been on my mind more recently, and I've decided it's going to be a great bass! (Yes, it really is as simple as that! ). So i've been thinking about adding a piezo pickup in the bridge. My question is how do you install one? Can you hook them up to the standard preamp in the bass?
 19. Sounds like a high fret, but it's hard to tell without seeing it. A way to check would be to get a length of flat steel that you can be certain has a flat, straight edge on it, and set it on the fretboard where the D string would go. If you see a gap between the 14th fret and the steel bar, the 15th fret is likely raised a bit. You might also see a gap on the frets after the 15th, but because when you are playing a fret 15th or higher, you essentially eliminate that high fret. The 4th fret was probably just down to bad truss rod adjustment.
 20. Nope. Don't know much about them TBH, but make sure all the connections are correct, and check the leads. If it's still misbehaving, take it to a tech
 21.
I dunno, I could imagine flats sounding good for some types of reggae guitar. Ernest Ranglin (legendary Studio One guitarist and the man who coined the word Ska) was a jazzer on the sly, and it shows in his playing.
Suppose, but he was in to jazz, so that explains it
 22.
Awww shucks, game changer, back to the drawing board etc etc Thanks for stopping by Mike, loving this one - which is why I chose it - the vocals are just sublime. Now where's that bottle of JD gone?
It's OK, Simon, you really have to worry when your wife disappears, the bank takes your house, and your crop fails.
 23.
Which cables are best for metal ?.
24.
Plectrums? Only guy I know who uses flats on guitar is a proper rockabilly type with a quiff and an ancient hofner. Works for that.
Yeah, it's quite an old rock and roll sound I think. Good for jazz too I suppose. Definitely the opposite of what you want for reggae or funk though.
 25.
Ah, fair enough, forewarned is forearmed as they say, never used flats on guitar anyway, but their roundwound guitar strings are cheap and good and last ages. Never been impressed by their bass strings or acoustics though.
I was thinking about getting flats for guitar. Usually, I'd go and watch a review on YouTube, but there aren't any for flatwound guitar strings... so guess what i'll be making a review on?
