1. Used Ashdown and Peavey gear usually get the nod for the sort of money you're looking at spending (though people seem to have a love/hate relationship with the Ashdowns). Roland gear might be worth looking into second hand as well. I've not heard the Ampeg, but was considering the B200R for a while. I decided it was too expensive at the time, but prices seem to have dropped considerably.
2. Is that one yours? I think that's more likely to be a 1992 model rather than 1982. Ibanez didn't start doing the pointy headstocks until the late eighties.
3. Hi there. Unfortunately you can't bridge a superfly, so the only way to get more power out of it would be to get an extra cab. Whatever you do don't try connecting up the two power amps to a single cabinet!
4.
Iv just contacted the owner of the cab and interesting as it loaded with Eminence 410 x 150 watt so 600 at 8 homs. The cab is about 7/8 years old. Its quite heavy but I'm thinking what else I could try new with Eminence. Although not sure if I would have the same sound im loving right now and don't want to give it back.
The only 150w 10" speaker eminence do at the moment is the Alpha 10 - which are pretty much what the SVT's use.
5. The Bass Reactor cabs used Celestion BL10-100's apparently. See here..
6. I see. He should have just built his feedback by selling a load of tat for pennies like every other scammer does.
7. What did it say???
8. Here you go. I'm on the right, but it really doesn't do my dental disaster justice.
9.
Who's the goofiest bass player ever?
It's me, assuming Ken Dodd doesn't play bass!
10.
Indeed.... we could make a big list here of all popular bassists including Jaco, entwistle, Bruce, Berlin (shudder....), Wilkenfield, etc....... Wouldn't it be more fun to see who was the fattest or thinnest or goofiest bassist ever.... I think so.
Ooh... Me, me! I win!
11. I suppose the obvious answer is to see if you can find a gs210 somewhere, though I guess that would depend on what you call portable. I often cart about a combo which is about the same weight and slightly bigger with the aid of a trolley on public transport, and though it's doable it's still some hassle.

Hi everyone

Hi John, welcome to the forum! You've picked a nice bass to get you back into the swing of things.
13.
Hi Clarky, do you know my old singer and guits band, Jimmy and the Destroyers?
I played a gig with them at London Calling last year - pretty good gig as I recall it.
14.
Did a gig atthe Grand Union in Kentish Town last year where the amp was a years-old 15W Trace Boxer practice amp - aaaarrrggh You can see it - just! - at the back of this photo
I think I've used that exact same amp! I did an Up All Night gig a few years back and when the guy I was talking to didn't know what the provided backline would be, I took the trouble to go down the week before and check it out. Nice Trace head and 4x10 - the following week that tiny boxer was sitting there!
15. Another ET-280 owner! Welcome to the forum. Ped - the Grabber pickup looks to be quite different. The ET-280 has chromed covers with small exposed pole pieces and the Grabber looks to be a black soapbar-ish design. Anyway, good luck with the hunt crowman.
16. Re the not hearing back from myspace messages, myspace have recently implemented a beta mail system which is giving a of of people grief. I can't send or reply to messages on there with my mac, and I know our drummer has had to reinstall IE to get it to work. If there is an alternative way of contacting them it might be worth trying that.
17. There's a phone number on the Summerfield home page - 0191 414 9000.
18.
Semi-result ..... Would have been nice to get the first messages without the third
Yeah, but I can never resist a touch of schadenfreude.
19. Result!
20.
Hi Rich, Hope we cleared that up for you!
21.
Depends on the floor, a flexible one will screw your sound.
Very true.
22.
this may be a stupid question, but would a single 2x10 (or 1x12 in my case) therefore have better dispersal if put vertical on an empty box at chest height, instead of sitting on the floor? and also, since my 112 has a tweeter, which way up is better? tweeter above or below? sorry for the thread hijack
It rather depends on what you'd call a better sound. My understanding is that by having the speaker on the floor you'll get a 3db boost at the bottom end. By raising the speaker more to ear level you'll hear the upper mids and treble better. Best of both worlds would be to keep the cab on the floor but angle it upwards, although then the audience wouldn't be hearing the higher frequencies as well as you do.
23. Does anyone know how VAT would fit into these scenarios? If a shop sells at a 15% commission, surely VAT at the current rate of 15% would also be added to the sale price in the shop? Or does the shop only have to pay VAT on their commission as there's no outlay to then for the bass?
24. Ramble On by Led Zep is a fairly pleasant song to play with just bass. Or maybe Hysteria by Muse for something more current, though you'd probably have to slow that one down a bit to start off.
25. I think the confusion over the 6/5 digit serials stems from the use of a zero at the start of all crafted in japan serials. It might seem that they are not including the zero at the start as one of the digits. Just to confuse things MIJ instruments may also start with a zero but they do include that as a digit. Incidentally, some japanese made basses do have the serials on the headstock, like some of the older E series ones and newer signature models. And the Squier Silver Series models as well.
