I love organised soundguys! C
This guy was an absolute star - I've never seen anyone as organised as him at a gig. The speed with which he, and his team if required, would break down a large PA was nothing short of breathtaking. We had a very big rig for Hawkwind once and after the gig was finished the band & road crew disappeared of to the dressing room to 'refresh' themselves. By the time they came out (which wasn't really that long) we were wheeling the last of the cables boxes out the door, all speakers, amps etc had already been loaded into the van. The look on their faces was wonderful - you could see them all doing a double take trying to work out f they'd walked out of the wrong door to a different stage etc -
My speaker cables are consequently 0.5inches thick and day-glow orange, whilst I use (and really look after) old-school Fender grey instrument cables.
I used to do some sound engineering work for a lovely guy who runs a wet/dry hire PA business. Every single cable he owned was colour coded. All mic cables were black (so they would be as unobtrusive as possible on stage) All speaker cables were red (so people would think they might be 'live' or hot & not randomly unplug them) All interconnects were blue (not quite sure why, lol) This system was so simple yet worked brilliantly - easy to set up & super quick when breaking the PA down to make sure each cable went back in the right box. Conversely I helped run a friend's PA last week end he had about 5 different cable colours and randomly threw speaker, mic and patch cables into the same sports bag - it was a nightmare to find the right cable for each application (didn't help that he also seems to use just about every type of plug 7 socked combination imaginable!). -
Just turned it on again and there's a slight electrical crackle from the on/off switch at the rear and nothing else.
I think that crackle is very common - mine often does it & so did the only other one I've tried. Have you checked boring stuff like the fuse in the mains plug & the plug itself to make sure there isn't a loose wire somewhere? -
Just checked mine and it's immaculate
Bang on. By placing the strap button lower, you get a perfect balance and the bass is held perpendicular to the players body. A much more, imo, comfortable position.
I know this might be a dumb question but if it works really well then why do most manufacturers put the strap button in line with the centre of the bridge? I had a quick look on Bernie's site and noticed that not every Spitfire has this design (but maybe some of the pics are older and all the new ones have it as standard).

Wow that's pretty, I've had a bit of a yearning for a Spitfire after Bernie's appearance at the London Bass Bash recently. The scratches don't show in the pics so they can't be that bad Do you know how much it weighs? Also, and I've only just noticed this with Spitfires, the rear strap button seems to be very low on the body compared to conventional position. I'm assuming this is designed to help the balance & the way it hangs on a strap?
Would you be interested in an offer for just the cab? I'm looking for a light weight 2x12 cabinet and this looks perfect mate! I'd love the whole rig but couldn't possibly afford it
Sorry - I did have a price for the cab alone and someone offered cash & collection so it's sold now -
Good luck with what sounds like an amazing deal Molan Financing something else perchance ? something very pretty ? T
I have my eyes on a few things but nothing in particular really. I have a feeling a bit of a general 'purge' is coming soon - too much stuff that just doesn't get used enough -

Picked this up recently in a PX deal as part of my, seemingly endless, quest for 'that' sound, lol. It's a fantastic little combo with way more depth than anything I've played before in this size of cabinet. Totally belies its size & I'm sure that the downward facing 8" bass radiator has a lot to do with this. This is the 4Ohm version and it's already chucking out enough volume for most gigs but you can add a 2nd 4Ohm cab if required for even more punch Very flexible EQ giving a really wide range of sounds. Easy one handed lift & it comes with a decent quality fitted cover so it's a real in/out job for gigs or rehearsals. It's in excellent condition & even still has its original tag on (which bears the original retail price of £1,349!). I can ship this if required but would prefer to meet up if possible. Happy to travel within a one hour radius (which would include up to Central London). Any questions - let me know
Surely the point of digital desks is to do away with all the excessive outboard? Never used a O1V live though, are they any good for live stuff or are they studio desks really? I get on pretty well with the LS9 and M7CL, particularly for monitor work. Digital desks are great in some situations but that just sounds totally ridiculous.
Totally agree the desk has loads of assignable effects so why have a huge rack of outboard kit! It seemed pretty flexible but the nature of digital with pads having multi functions isn't anywhere near as fast for fixing things on the fly. Personally I'd go analogue every time for genuine usable flexibility.

I stepped in as a dep sound engineer for the evening and the regular engineer lent the band his Yamaha 01V digital desk, a bloody great stack of effects & equalisers, compressors etc & lights with a Martin controller. He said he'd label up all the interconnects so they'd be really easy to use and that the desk was very intuitive to use. Once we arrived and got all the stuff out we discovered about a zillion leads with massively ambiguous labelling. Managed to get the hang of the desk and got all the incoming feeds working into my monitor headphones. However, try as we might we could only get a single feed out to one channel of the monitors. No FoH, sod all volume from the single monitor that worked and nothing feeding into the stupidly complex lighting controller. 6 of us tried just about every combination but got absolutely nowhere. Luckily there was a support act that had a good old fashioned Yamaha analogue powered desk. Took me about 5 minutes to get it up & running with a nice FoH sound & two monitor mixes. No eq on the monitors so volume was a bit of a problem but FoH sounded fine. The the bloody monitors blew - pretty sure they had fuses in them & the pair went simultaneously midway through the second set. They really weren't all that loud because of the full range signal they were getting. Because the support act also had a pair of FoH speakers I managed to rig these up as side fills from the monitor mix and got a decent on stage sound. Anyway - the point of this rant is that the band only ever play small venues and a simple analogue desk with on-board effects & maybe a pair of 'set em & forget em' graphics is easily enough for sort of gigs they get. A basic set of coloured PAR cans would be fine as well. So why does the sound guy have this huge array of equipment - apparently he often has problems with things crashing, especially the lighting controller. It must take 2-3 times as long to set it all up & break down again as well. . .

Edited listing Now Sold I bought this a couple of months ago but the head isn't quite what I'm after so I've reluctantly decided to move it on This RH450 is in immaculate condition & looks like new. I have the original box and manuals etc for it as well. There's been so much said about these amazing little heads that I won't go into detail here - happy to reply to any questions at all though There's some good detail on the head here: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...l_450_head.html I can arrange delivery or meet up somewhere within a reasonable distance if that's easier. The cheapest I've seen the head is about £830. Here's a stock shot of the head as it gives better detail than my camera ever will!
Molan, that blue one looks very nice! Why are you selling it?!!
It's lovely Only selling because it's near identical to my red one and I didn't think I needed two basses so similar. It's lighter in weight and just a fraction 'softer' in sound. I actually marginally prefer the core sound of the blue but the red wins for me in the colour stakes - purely subjective stuff of course. Build quality across the two is so consistent that you couldn't tell them apart if you played them blindfolded

I really love my Sadowsky Will Lee J bass and vaguely thought about looking out for a nice NYC P to go with it. Had a look around a few places and the most common configuration for a Sadowsky P seems to have a J pickup as well. I don't have anything against the PJ idea but quite fancied a simple traditional single P pickup. So - just wondered if anyone had ever played one or knew much about them. Maybe there's something in the basic makeup of the classic Sadowsky sound that really needs that bridge pickup to make it sing?

Nice one Mike, That looks like a big old Trace cab in the background - not your usual rig?
