New 350 cap. Venue in Cardiff looking for bands
Jase replied to OldGit's topic in General Discussion
Didn't even know Pete was still doing a bit of that strat trashing -
I'm currently in a new band that is playing a full set of material by the band Free. We are not going out as a looky likey tribute act but are playing the songs as a tribute to Free. We are very passionate about the material and play it as close to the original sounds as possible. Although Free were a four piece outfit we have an additional fifth player on keyboards as about 80% of Free's recordings featured keyboards (hammond, piano, mellatron). We have been rehearsing since February and are now ready to hit the live music circuit. Could anyone out there recommend any venues that would book our type of band? We are currently working on posters, demo's and a website.
Did you see Old Gits thread? Hmmmm, don't think we'd pull 35 let alone 350. Wonder who's the first established act to play there? -

That's brilliant..a new venue in Cardiff! The Globe, very Posh -
Don't quote me....... but I'm sure I read on a site somewhere that ebony had a brighter sound than maple??? I'll try and remember where I come across that info....a site that you could order your own wood etc for self builds???

Just had a cover made for my HA3500 by Silverstone, brilliant quality, perfect fit and ideal for keeping dry when it's belting down with rain at a gig. Very good prices and a quick service! Amp Covers by Silverstone.

I prefer to buy second hand, they're all over priced IMO. For me, around £500 second hand is my limit. I was looking at Windmill Jazz basses, the one that caught my eye was about £1200, as much as I really want one I'd never pay that for it.
We were enjoying him on the Welsh language scene even before he was famous before being famous. He used to gig in a hall that was 250 meters from my front door in Bangor

Sorry, Mark, but that WAS what I meant! I think liking everything shows a complete lack of taste!! Now wait for the fireworks!
Agreed, how can a person like EVERYTHING in music? Where would you keep all the cd's for a start!
At the risk of repeating myself - this is where he was before he was famous - http://www.myspace.com/pinopalladino
He was famous before he was famous....if you know what I mean people spoke highly of him years and years ago.
Some fair points made, but never at any point did i say he was crap. Maybe someone else did. Infact, i said he's technically brilliant/better than i'll ever be. I reckon i know the difference between my own personal preferences/prejudices and actual bona fide rubbish. For the record, if i'd known the guy was a friend of the forum i wouldn't have posted. Sorry about that. I was responding to another thread "Fastest bass guitarist in the world, does anyone really care?", concerning a guy called Jayen Varma, so i assumed such topics were fair game. Thing is, we all knock other players from time to time, but can we take it in return? I'd never criticise anyone with limited ability for having a go, that wouldn't be fair, but i feel able to comment on this because after thirty years playing i'm pretty f***ing good myself. :-) I'm just playing devil's advocate. Like i said, i'm sure he's a nice guy and all, and he can laugh loudly at my playing any time he likes. :-) Cheers, Jake M
No, fair enough you didn't say he was crap, it's just the mockery that sometimes goes on here...(Not personal to you Jake) that gets.... me goat, shall we say
Well Jake did invite us to check out the video, and this is a discussion forum so what's wrong with people expressing their opinions and discussing the video? I didn't enjoy it at all, although I didn't find it funny. Of course he's getting paid; and I'm depping on New Year's Eve playing indie/rock music, some of which I don't like much, because I need the money.
Nothing wrong with discussing the video at all, I just failed to see what was funny about it. I agree with Gamble on it being very percussive, like Entwistle but taken further....I'm going to check him out some more I think

Phwoa! Bill is the man!!!!!

I hate the radio too, never have it on in my car. I complain at the TV whenever there's music on..doesn't matter what it is! I can manage to play covers of songs I hate because it pays. Same as you again...any covers I fancy, other players generally don't like them. I don't play albums very often. You're not alone
.....badly..... Sad thing is the folks on the Rotosound stand probably think he's doing a great job. If he actually played something instead of mindless, toneless fret w**king, he might actually do what he's been employed to do and draw interest to the stand.
What ever we think of that particular performance, good or bad......what I'm saying is there's hardly anything constructive said.....I split my sides......I loved the part when they walked past him......ahh, that's why his tone is sh*te! For example, Some of us know very little about this chap, it'd be really great if people would pass links on, does he have a band, has he made an album? Instead of the usual slagging lots of players get here!

Never ceases to amaze me the amount of negative tripe that people post when ever there is a bass player doing something that a lot of us wouldn't mind being involved with.......A "Major Company" demo!!!!!
-
I think they may eventually phase them out though, obviously there's still some stock to shift but the HA5500 is competing with the littlemark etc price-wise and pretty much all Hartke's production has been shifted to china now, so i think they're going the ultra budget route. As a plus point this means bass players have a well-built and good-sounding alternative to behringer! As a minus it means all of us who paid £500+ for our amps aren't getting half of that back
Nah, they're big selling amps....I think they'll be around for a while yet.

Welcome back.
+1 on fast fret Looks after your fretboard too but i find it doesn't last amazingly long.
Not as long as Fast Fret claim, cheap enough though
I'm selling my Hartke HA5500 rig elsewhere on this site and have had a bit of interest in the head. The rig is up at £550 at the mo. The problem is that Hartke have just released a new head that's 500w and £239 new (inc. post), so i'm not sure on the second hand value of mine. I'm certain it will have gone down in value (cheers Hartke!) but is the new head better? Is it replacing the HA series? Any thoughts are appreciated Cheers guys (and gals)!
The LH series are part of the new HyDrive rigs, don't think they're replacing the HA series.
