1. Nice wood choice! Looking forward for updates
2.
Looks a lot like mine:
The same bass, swapped the pickguard for the black one
3. Metal boxes have inherently better shielding. This and better durability more than justifies somewhat higher price for me...
4. They called this color "pewter" I believe...
5.
Here's my current build a 59ish P-Bass. not the finished article yet but about 80% there.
Looks a lot like mine:
6.
My next black bass will be a fretless maple-necked Precision for sure
Well, here it is, freshly assembled from Fenrandez (1981-ish) body, pickup and bridge, and new maple fretless neck (EYparts, made in China):
7. ... and if you can get along with how they all become hairy/furry where the coating wears off (especially if you play with a pick...)
8. I played the HB-4 in a store once, it was not very well finished ("cheap" looking fret job, uneven laquier,...) But sounded rather nice. I was not very inspired by its "low cost" look.
9. The color combo is almost like a negative film vs positive print On the left: "Lawsuit" era Fernandes body (1981) with new fretless maple neck (from ebay store "Eyeparts", made in China) On the right: Squier VM (2008)
10. Just a pair of diodes put across the output back-to back, with 3 position switch alternating between germanium, shottky and zener types and another switch inactivating one diode of each pair (making the limiter asymmetric). As simple as it gets!
11. My Squier Vintage Modified 4 with noname replacement maple neck; and Squier Vintage Modified V:
12. Oh, by the way, did I post this one before? The only bass I wouldn't be ashamed to post after this Rob Allen beauty!
13. Outch, that's not fair to us mere mortals
14. People accept that PJs may have their quirks... Yes, often the P pickup overpowers the J pickup, so what
15. Technically, a balance pot (if you use the one that puts both pickups to 100% in the middle) is equivalent to two separate volumes. So if the pickups have different outputs, you'll have the same issues, balance pot or not...
16. One of the guitarist I played with, has an Ibanez acoustic guitar (don't remember the model, something not too high-end). It has both phone jack and XLR outs (but won't take power from phantom source, a battery is needed in both cases)
17.
FWIW I've got Warwick Red Labels on my Precision. I quite like them, so if you're looking for something less than a tenner and willing to experiment they're well worth the punt in my opinion.
I second these, they aren't bad (I had one stainless steel set once, it sounded good and lasted long enough)
18. After trying many kinds of straps over the years, I settled on Levy's cotton straps like this one: http://www.thomann.de/gb/levys_mssc8_blk_gitarrengurt.htm Decent comfort, doesn't slip on most clothes and can be played bare -chested too
19. Like some guys here, I don't mike cabs when playing live, just too many things to go wrong. Any half-decent DI is less trouble than any mikes. However in studio or other recording situations, I do mike the cab when time permits.
20. Fender flats work well with through-body bridges (not surprising, at least all the AmStd bridges are through-body, they have to propose flats compatible with these )
21. +1 for Fender Flats. Cheap and decent.
