1. It's out of your budget by £100 roughly but if you want to save and wait a little while, a new model, the Epiphone Thunderbird Classic IV Pro is being released in September with Gibson USA pickups and a through-neck. They're available in Vintage Sunburst or Alpine White. I've already got a deposit down on mine with Wembley Guitar Centre, Anderton's are also selling them. http://www.epiphone.com/News/Features/Features/2012/Epiphone-Thunderbird-Classic-IV-PRO.aspx
  2. Put a deposit down on the white one a few weeks ago with Wembley Guitar Centre, they should be coming in at the start of September
  3. I've just moved and have no internet at the moment, so I've come into work on a Saturday just to give this a bump. No one interested at all?
  4. "I'm skint and I want new toys" bump. Also, price drop to £160.
  5. If it was the 8ohm model, I'd have taken it off you ages ago! Have a bump from me.
  6.
The Surface Unsigned Festival is one gigantic pay-to-play con. Guess which bands get voted through to the next round at the end of the night? The ones who sold the most tickets
It's weird that you should say that. My band was in last year's festival, and never had to pay a penny. We were given however many tickets we wanted, and we only ever had to give them money for the tickets that were sold. And in all honesty, we sold sod all and just had people buy their tickets on the door instead, so they didn't make very much from us. Made it through to the semi-finals too (lost out on the regional finals by one point). We recently dealt with JAR music - absolutely horrendous. Giving money for tickets sold I've always seen as fair cop to be honest, but they demanded money for unsold tickets out of an allocation they kept giving and giving to us. Their organsation was terrible, providing us with a huge list of gear that would be available for us to use on the night to make things easier (mainly drums and related items) so our drummer travelled to the gig light - when we got there, none of what they advertised was there! Their sound engineer was absolutely terrible too. They also did zero promotion for it. Never again!
  7. My other half was sitting next to me while I was making my first post. Her response was, "Basschat, awwww! Bless." Followed by "are you making friends?" 15 minutes later.

  9. Hi all, Up for sale is my Ibanez GSR200 in Pearl White. She was my first dabble in active basses and she's performed well, but my white Thunderbird awaits so it's time for her to find a new home). I had a buyer lined up but he's pulled out, so here it is. She sounds great, lovely action, currently strung with Ernie Ball Power Slinkies (light to moderate usage). PRICE DROP - £100 Collection from Southend-on-Sea, Essex (or meet anywhere else in Essex). Pictures below, she's in great condition. P.M. me for any more details I've forgotten. Thank you EDIT: No trades now, need the cash.

Its early days for us, but the extra support is always welcomed. We are hoping to get a good following over the next year, and gigs are starting to happen now! I am really lucky as the guys I play with are pretty awesome...have made me a better player!
Excellent stuff dude, gets a like from me!
I like fella, We should hook up and do some double headers!
That sounds awesome, drop me a PM! We were due to play in Colchester on the 14th, but our drummer can't make it.
As a matter of interest , how many of us run their band's facebook/myspace/website? Is it a duty that always falls to the bass player?
Yep, I've worked in IT and web design since I was 16, so I do the website and social networking. Our new drummer is also a programmer which has taken a lot of the work off my hands
  11. I always carry a spare bass; I've never broken a string on stage (or whilst practicing or in rehearsal for that matter) but sooner or later it'll happen, especially playing in Drop C. I usually make sure I have spare strings as well, and that they're already cut to the correct size. And of course factoring in for electronic problems. I always prep my basses before a gig but sometimes I honestly don't have time. In terms of amplification; I ALWAYS test out my rig the night before, in the morning/afternoon and of course during soundcheck. If anything goes wrong on the night, I used to have a dedicated DI box, now I can rely on my SansAmp to get me through. I always carry spare leads too. And as Low End Bee said, if I'm gigging with bands we're well acquainted with, we all agree that we can use each others rigs if anyone's develops problems during the night.
  12. I've been wanting to get some of these for ages, still trying to convince the landlord to let me put them up. The joys of renting!
  13. Four-piece alternative metal band, i.e. Stone Sour, Deftones, Alice In Chains. http://www.facebook....oma/65996290389 P.S. Our first single is hitting iTunes tonight </shamelessplug>
  14.
Need to sell this so I can afford my new white one.
If I hadn't already put my deposit down for my white one with USA pickups, I'd so have this. Have a bump from me
  15.
Try RAT or You Dirty Rat, with no modifications they are quite brutal. I do have M80, but I think the distortion is not that good, more likely one sound wonder and I don't like it. Same and better can be done with RAT. I do use M80, but it only sends the clean sound to mixing console.
Just looked up the Turbo RAT on YouTube and it sounds great, thanks
  16. Yeah, I did read that a while back, annoyingly that was his sound in his first run with Marilyn Manson - when he used Thunderbirds and an Ampeg rig. Unfortunately, I have no idea what he used with Nine Inch Nails.
  17. Hi all, I currently use a Boss ODB-3 for distortion but never have really managed to find the high-gain grunch I want for solo parts (think Jeordie White/Twiggy when he played with Nine Inch Nails a few years ago). I was thinking of getting the MXR M80 but as I use a SansAmp BDDI already, I'd only be using it for the distortion. So, would this be a complete waste of money as I wouldn't be utilising half of the pedal? And while I'm at it, if anyone can recommend an alternative, please do so

    Chord pedals

Two of the local music shops in Southend stock them (PMT and Allegro). I bought the Chord bass EQ pedal before recording last month, after my SansAmp failed to turn up in time. It was great, lovely little pedal and I got a great tweaked sound out of it for the recording. Only cost me £30. Now I've got the SansAmp, it became redundant, so I sold it last week. But I was pleasantly surprised, for the price, I didn't expect much but it was very versatile. I'd recommend it, and I might try some more of their pedals at some point
  19.
What is it with guitarists trying to bee uber loud? Almost all the ones I've spoken to, let alone heard, don't understand what a band mix is. It's like the band is there for them to noodle over!
I'm lucky that my guitarists aren't like that. We all like to hear ourselves, and to hear each other. If we can do that, and everything sounds good together, we're happy
