1.
You've done the gig, now you want to wear the T-shirt.
LOL! Aksherly, I've been looking out for one for a while!
2.
Silly question but why?
Because I'm worth it?
3.
Stupid question I suppose, but I might as well ask: do they exist in an official form?
Hmmm.... probably not. Quite happy to buy bootleg then!
4. Anyone know where to buy MarkBass t-shirts, badges, etc? I've emailed markbass.it but no response.
5. I usually sit on the edge of the spare bed, but it's not perfect. Thinking about getting a little "drum throne" thingy with a small backrest....
6. Thanks everyone! Basschat really is amazing! I'm still left with one great big regret though, and that is that I waited so long to do it. I wish I'd been doing this 20 years ago. But, as has been said, the thing now is to keep the momentum going and it doesn't look like there'll be any problem in that regard. Got a couple of offers to go jam with other musos, and possibly a dep call. It's looking good! Aksherly, I'm gonna link to this in my sig, so maybe this thread will serve as a bit of inspiration to others who are just as terrified as I was. It certainly helped me in a very big way and it would be remiss of me not to pass that on wherever possible.
7. Oh, and another thing. I didn't have anything to drink before playing. Took my kit home and dumped the car at the interval and a mate brought me back to the pub. I then proceeded to get thoroughly scuttered. The hangover today was/is, shall we say, impressive.
8. OK, OK, I'll put you out of my misery! Well, it was... erm... AWESOME!!! The singer invited me to take to the stage mid-way through the first set, when I wasn't expecting it. I think I may have poo'd a little! Started with Sweet Home Alabama and I didn't drop a beat or fluff a note. Guitars stopped at one point so it was just drums & bass with the audience singing the chorus. It was amazing! Then we did Crazy Little Thing Called Love which also went without a hitch and got a great response. Thought we were gonna end with Smokin' In The Boys Room (which seriously ROCKED!), but it all went so well that we also did Let's Stick Together and that too was fantastic. The cheer I got at the end was louder than the band! My little MarkBass was waaaaayyyyy too loud and was operating at about one third power, so no worries there, and that was up against the band's backline and PA (Ampeg - looked like a 2 x 12" and a 1 x 15", and the guitarists Marshall 4 x 12"). How did it feel? Absolutely freakin' amazing! Mrs HT was very proud and I got literally showered with compliments and some slightly amazed expressions afterwards. Apparently the band thought I was ok too.... Their bassist plays in another band and so the have to turn down gigs if he's not available. The drummer and singer independently asked if I'd consider joining them and asked for my phone number! How cool is that!?!? I guess the best compliment is the one you get from fellow musicians. Special thanks to everyone on here who talked me into doing it and helped to put my mind at rest. I will definitely be doing it again. As soon as possible!
9. All I can say is THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! That, and "I want my mum!" Won't be back on now until after the deed is done. Watch this space.....
10. LOL @ bilbo! That did actually make me laugh out loud! Thank you everyone for your support. I'm definitely going to do it for 2 simple reasons: First, I'll hate myself if I don't, and second, I can't let Mrs HT down. So, just one drink beforehand? That'll be a pint. Whisky. Seriously though, thank you to everyone. I will let you know what happens...........
11. So, after posting this a while back, I've finally taken the plunge and will be playing live for the first time ever. Tomorrow night we're having a party for Mrs HT's 40th birthday. She always said that the one thing she wanted was to see me play with a "real" band, rather than an MP3 player! It's in our local pub, there will be 50-60 friends & colleagues there, plus quite a few locals. The band (the guitarist is a mate) have agreed to let me stand in on bass for a few songs. We're doing Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Let's Stick Together, Smokin' In The Boys Room, and Sweet Home Alabama. I've played all of these for decades, but for the last four weeks they are ALL I've played (I can actually play Crazy Little Thing backwards). So, my question is simply this: How do you get over the nerves? I am absolutely SHTING myself, and if I'm honest, I really don't want to do it. I know I'm gonna miss a string, or fluff a change (I mean, FFS, you don't get much simpler than these songs!), or just generally have a train wreck. But, I also know that if I don't do it I probably never will, and I will continue to kick myself for the rest of my life. How to approach it? What to think? What to feel? What's gonna happen? What if I make a t!t of myself, or worse? I can't practise any more, although I'll probably have another dozen or so run-throughs tomorrow morning. Should I do it? Should I back out? I should probably add that I'm not drinking tonight. I want a totally clear head tomorrow.
12.
Have emailed "Subscriptions" regarding missing issue - no response. This is not looking good.
OK, just wanted to quickly update this. Got a very pleasant email from the subscriptions dept. with an apology for being "out of office", explaining that my subscription had expired. Now in the past, it has automatically been renewed with no problem. But checking back, I didn't get any email or notification that this was going to happen. I havenow renewed my subscription and received the current (Zender) issue with a complimentary set of Rotosound strings. That was an unnecessary gesture, but greatly appreciated and has renewed my faith in BGM and its staff. Hot Tub is happy.
13. Have you ANY IDEA what Mrs HT would say? "Darling, I've bought a guitar rack which holds nine instruments." "That's nice dear." "Now I need to buy another six basses to fill it." <THUMP!>
14. How's the neck? Try tightening the truss rod a tad?
15. You're not leaving the lead plugged in are you?
16. Kewl! Thanks folks! On the same subject, and as I've never used it in anger before, is it correct to set the gain to just before clipping and turn the volume up as required? Is anything gonna get damaged by using "full throttle"?
17. Is my CMD103H gonna be "big" enough for a small pub? It'll be up against one electric guitar, one acoustic guitar, drums, and a singer. The band isn't "deafening" loud, but you have to shout a bit to hold a conversation. Subjective I know, but what do you think?
18. I have the Artisan B5, and love it. It's a beautiful instrument, a joy to play, it can sound delicate, thunderous, and everything in between! Go on, you know you want to!

OBBM

Ordered a tiny little power cable thingy from OBBM a couple of days ago & it arrived this morning. Very tidy, very professional, very quick, very happy! Cheers mate!
20. I've bought some significant stuff from Dolphin Music over the last couple of years and always enjoyed excellent service, quick delivery. Will happily use them again. And of course, let's not forget Bass Direct. Mark (Poptart) is always pleasant, helpful, and will take the time to discuss exactly what you need, whether it's one of his beautiful boutique basses, or a pack of strings!
21. Hercules Guitar Stands - I have the GS414B (bought from Bass Direct in Warwick) and it's a superb piece of kit.
22. Many years ago I used stuff from Marine International Coatings. Very hard wearing. Dunno if they're still around, but I suspect something for marine applications would be suitable.
