1.
I'd be interested in this if it is still available and also if we could work out a meet point between you and Devon ?
Darn it...I was only in Devon week before last.
2. It is with great regret that I have to offer my double bass for sale. Since the break up of my last band I've had very little motivation to play or practice. And what with my hip and back problems it's getting harder for me to hump the thing about. So... she's got to go. Holly is a black bass with white edging. 3/4 size Innovation rockabilly strings in a fetching shade of bluey-green Comes complete with bag and bow ( meant to chuck it away, but never did lol) Also has a dual pickup...one on the bridge and the other under the finger board. She would probably best suit a beginner and/or someone who wants to play rockabilly, rock n roll, swing type music etc. I can provide pictures if required. And obviously you are welcome to come and play her. The price is non negotiable.
3. What happened ?? The scoring was all jogging along nicely..... And then BAM!!! We end up with some dross coming from nowhere and winning.
4. Yup....love Eurovision. In fact we usually have a gathering... But I'm on nights tonight. Although hopefully I should be able to keep up with most of it.
5. Dave Edmunds and Jim Lea are the only two that I have heard of so far.....yeah, yeah I know....I'm an old duffer lol
6.
As ever one persons "famous" is the next mans "who?", I wouldn't know most of the people named in this thread before/during/googling/after meeting them, lol.
Phew!!! Glad it's not just me hahahaha
7. Checked the diary and I'm actually not working.... Which is a miracle. Although I don't think that I'm going to contribute much as I have hardly touched my bass in about a year due to work commitments. So as a Bash virgin......what sort of things happen at these get togethers ???
8. The Clash are my favourite band...always have been and always will be. Paul's playing is an integral part of the whole sound for me....OK so he wasn't the most accomplished player back in the day, but he was safe n steady. And a great "poster boy" for the band.
9. Yup sure do. And she's called Holly...because she is curvy like Miss Willoughby lol But my guitar ?!?!...nah
10. I would have to disagree. My cheaper model bass came with strings and bridge in place. As per the constant advice on this site, I took my bass to a luthier for a set up. He told me that I needn't have bothered as Thomann had done a great job. Just email them with the details of the strings that you want and the type of set up you require ( in my case 'rockabilly' ) and they should do the rest.
11. 'Why Don't You Just Rock !'.....the first Restless album is still very influential for me.
12. Looks gorgeous. Glad you're enjoying it.
13. It has gone very quiet. Did it turn up? Do you like it? Is it set up ok? Do your fingers hurt yet?
14.
Mainly jazz, might try and get in with an acoustic group but would love to get into doing a few swing numbers in clubs and restaurants.
Great stuff
15. What sort of music will you be playing by the way??
16. I've had one of their cheaper models for 3 years...it's still going strong and I still love it.
17. Rabbie...... you didnt make it confusing, I did. Im self taught so I dont get a lot of the "proper" musical references Sarah ..... thanks, I think Im definitely on the mend..hopefully. As for the clip..... lol.I cant find it again, but if I do I will post.
18. Yes.. that's it E F# G# A ....which is about the only combination that I didn't try the other day. Thanks to all of you.
19. Hi all, due to health problems I havent played my bass for many, many months and I have only played it sporadically over the last year. Anyway, Im back to it now. And I saw a clip on the web of someone doing what he called a "walk up". It sounded great so I thought I would try it, but it doesnt sound the same. He said that he was playing E & F# (on the D string) then A# & A (on the G string) When I tried it, it just didnt sound right..... did I miss hear the second two notes...... as they are the ones that didnt sound quite right..or what ?? Sorry for what is probably a very basic question, but due to my health, my playing and my progress have been rather slower than I had hoped. cheers ... Chris
20. Daf .. you've done an outstanding job. I, like many many others, got to try out lots of different string types. I would never have afforded to buy sting set after string set.. so I thank you. Your a star.... and one of the nicest people I have ever met
21.
One tries Mal , but that is just joinery , the bit I can't quite understand yet how you get to know where your fingers are supposed to go , especially when they are up over your left ear and you cant see them , even with a rubber neck wearing bifocals !!
Muscle memory...... once you've done it enough times whilst looking you just seem to "know" without looking..... that's my theory anyway lol
22. Obviously other pre amp settings are available. I was showing mine as an example.....and thought others would show us their settings..... but apparently not
