Chris F - similar story for me but it was watching Steve Whitehouse when I was a young 15 year old psychobilly. I've been hooked on that boom, clickety clack ever since! Took me a long time before buying a bass - I love standing at the back trying to hold it all together and when it comes together its a great great feeling.
Ah the Sharks.... another great band. But screw standing at the back..... I want to be right up the front.... Im definitely the exhibitionist out of the 4 of us -
I reckon that's a pretty darn good idea Let us know how it goes and I might copy you..... if its successful

Ok people... anybody want these speak up before the end of the weekend. Otherwise ...... seeing as how the next person on the list has ignored several messages ..... they are going back to Daf. Oh...and NO... Im not happy about my attempts to contact the next person being ignored..... total lack of manners if you ask me
it's the feel of the DB, the strings, the board, as well as the sound that's utterly addictive............
yup..... this too -
HAHAHAHA...... your shows sound a lot of fun

Blimey Rev...at a gig would be terrible. So what happened....did you..er...explain the error of his actions to him ??

Luckily the sound post didn't fall. Ive lined the bridge feet up so that the inner F holes are in the middle of the feet.....is that ok, or should the F holes be lined up somewhere else ??

LOL.... glad its not just me then It went with such a loud bang...it scared the heck out of me We had a band practice today.. and I was really nervous the whole time in case it happened again.

My bass exploded whilst I was playing it today That will teach me to mess about trying out new strings all the time Took me nearly an hour to put it all back together (including putting the original strings back on ) and get the bridge where I was happy with it. I will never moan about luthiers again

Yup... I'll second the Thomann vote. Got my first (budget) upright from them.. and apart from the strings (got Innovations on it now ) its a great instrument for the money. And their after market sales are superb. Send it back and get a Thomann would be my advice.

I saw my first live rockabilly band at the age of 14-ish.... and thought that the upright bass was the coolest instrument I had ever seen....and I wanted one. Only took me 34 years, but I finally got one. And It turns out that its the coolest thing to play too. Im obsessed...I admit it Luckily (??????) Im unemployed at the moment, so I can spend time playing it every day. It is by far the best money I have ever spent on anything....ever -
I have a Fishman Pro Platinum bass pre-amp. Got it after recommendations from people on here....and I love it.

Cheers artisan....
If you can stretch the budget a bit then a second hand GK MB150 would be worth considering. They're small, surprisingly loud and they sound great, both for DB and BG. I have a Fishman Plat Pro but since I got the GK I've found that i prefer going directly into the amp. Like yourself, a new one was out of my price range but it was worth the wait for a second hand one.
Had a look and there are a few about.. the prices aren't too bad. Nice one ...cheers
Instant lightweight bass cabinet... http://www.amazon.co...Einhell+Folding
hahahahahahahahaha...... nice one wasn't expecting to see that when I opened the link. I like how your going at the problem from a totally different angle.....which is why I threw it open to all you lovely people on here.....ideas.
I tend not to bother with an amp at home...
Me neither...normally, but I want to play about with the settings of my Pro Plat pre-amp...so I need an amp for that. Also,my son plays my bass guitar in a band and wants something to use too....so it was going to be a joint amp. Complicated this music lark innit
Nothing wrong with wanting everything! It does come down to light, powerful, cheap. Pick two. Occasionally bargains do come up. I'd not be overly worried initially about power - I'd see what I could do about borrowing a rig or two to see how they fare. It's rehearsals and smaller gigs that are probably the immediate concern. Paul.
But I want it all Gigging and rehearsals aren't really a problem. We rehearse at my mates house ( the one with the very nice Peavey ) and if/when we gig I reckon I can get my sons to lug stuff for me for now what I really want is an amp for home use...so maybe I should just get a really good practice amp ???
-
Cheers all...... Maybe I was asking to much, wanting something with enough power for giging but also relatively light. I will keep looking...and saving
