3. Had a set of these on my 7 string bass for a few weeks now and i must say they are excellent strings. I was looking for bright, punchy and clear and they deliver perfectly. I tune my bass: EBEADGC so its tuned an octave slow a normal E so finding strings is challenging. For anyone who is not aware these are handmade strings made in the Midlands. There is a wait for custom strings but they are available from Strings Direct. The idea of having something wound for my needs really appealed to me. I must say the strings really complement both my playing style and my gear (Aguilar amps and cabs, ACG custom basses). The strings have a good tension and great harmonic content, I am able to get a full spectrum of tones from them. The staff are very helpful and extremely knowledgeable. They were able to wind my low string a .175 with no issues. I was using D'addario strings but I will now be using Newtone on all my basses. Check them out here: http://newtonestring...m/bass_page.htm
4. I'm waiting too. 6 string fretless Krell. Can't wait for this one. This will be the fourth ACG I will have had and they just keep getting better!
5. Pms replied to. Both pedals sold pending payment.
6. This: In terms of influence over many years, mention must go to Rick Turner and Ron Wickersham of Alembic - multi laminate wood construction and active electronics. Rick Turner also developed the first graphite necks with Geoff Gould who started Modulus.
7. Sblueplanet I've pmd you but the bridge is not fixed it moves. Wooks - john does some great work for sure.
8. UPDATE* I am now up for trade offers on this. I don't need to sell this but would rather have something that is going to get some use. I am up for trades for 4 and 5 string basses that are fretted. Cash either way considered. I fancy a Jazz bass at the minute, preferably MIJ and not sunburst but all basses considered. If you have seen my post in the repairs forum you will know i may need to get some repairs done to my amp/cab so i might be up for trades for amps/cabs but for now its just basses. am looking to move this bass on and realise its a bit topical at the minute but needs must. I have realised a prefer the sound and feel of ACG basses so have ordered a fretless 6. Condition wise i would say its in good condition however the finish is quite soft therefore it does have a few marks. The worst mark is on the top of the lower horn (see picture). Sound wise despite its modern look its a very smooth sound and not aggressive. I think it sounds more like a P bass than anything. If you are looking for a more modern tone it would be easy to add a preamp which would liven it up plenty. The controls are the same as a P bass so volume and tone. Currently strung with new d'addario round wound strings. This bass is very light much lighter than my other basses my scales are out of order but i am guessing around the 7.5 to 8.5 mark. Spec is: 6 string fretless singlecut mahogany body spalted beech top mahogany neck Letts pickups Ebony ramp Ebony bridge Hipshot tuners. Beech and ebony tone block. When Jon was building it he accidentally put fret markers on both edges of the fingerboard doesn't really matter tho as you can't see them. Price wise i am asking £400 comes with a worn Warwick Soft case. I would much prefer to meet up and let the buyer try the bass in person. Happy to drive. This was one of the first Letts bass special and i paid £475 all in. I am not sure how much it would cost for Jon to make one now but i am guessing well over £1000 plus the wait time. 10. ACG - no up charge. Alembic bid do not upcharge. I have no problem with basses that use mass manufacturing charging more. Companies who state they hand build but upcharge bothers me but hey, it's their company.
11. Having to think clearly what bass to buy rather than being overwhelmed with options.
12. I always wanted an Kubicki, despite disliking headless basses.
13. I think I have found a good way to use both slapping and tapping. It supports the rhythm of the song which is complex. What do you guys think appropriate or not? http://youtube.com/watch?v=Qsv2cApSGLA
14. We are in Moffat!! Let the drinking begin! After a coffee of course.
15.
Wow! A leftie 7 - that's a pretty narrow market. Now if it was only fretless.
Alan from ACG is building me a fretless at the minute although it's only a 6 string: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/229989-acg-krell-single-cut-fretless-6/page__pid__2391765#entry2391765
16.
Wow the fretboard wood there is stunning - what is it?
It's a book matched mango fretboard full specs here: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/acg_admin/wordpress/portfolio/0090-recurve-sc-s-type-7-string-lh/
17.
Matt is now back on board.
Hooray!!!!
18. Hi Jimryan I am nowhere near you but i use a 7 String custom ACG bass tuned: EBEADGC so dropping the F# to an E.
19.
I would be very, very unhappy if you showed your wood. As unhappy as i am with my Finn that i haven't stopped playing since it arrived last week. Know what I mean, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no mowah.
Haha ACG basses are very addictive. If you have wood as nice as mine it should be on show
20.
agreed! share the wood pics dude! I love the Krell shape, shouldn't this be a headless too though for maximum kerpow!
I can't get on with headless basses. I know it makes sense but I can't get my head around them.
