[/quote] I'm not sure who the promotor is, but they toured in '11 for the 20th anniversary of 'Pocketful of Kryptonite' and they played the whole album including the UK bonus tracks.There is a video on YouTube of them doing 'Two Princes' at Band on the Wall. One of the best bands I've seen live. (Got a signed set list too).

Great band. I wasn't able to see them this time, but I saw their last tour where they played the entire 'Pocketful of Kryptonite' album at Band on the Wall in Manchester. Mark White was usjng his pink Jazz then and wasn't using any effects. He's got a great left hand technique-pretty much double thumbs everything.Very Wooten-esque (Check out his solo on 'Refrigerator Car' from the 'Homebelly Groove' album). Aaron Comess is the drummer.

I use a dead simple set up right now. I use a Rolls mixer and a pair of T-bone earphones.I was using a pair of Shure's but after they broke I tried out the T-bone's and they do the job fine....and they were £40. They take out enough external noise and I can hear everything clearly-and I have my bass slightly louder than everything else.Triple drivers are great if you are happy to spend the money on them,but I don't think they are essential. A friend of mine blew a pair of Ultimate Ears triple drivers and now uses a pair of Shure that were about half the cost of the UE's and much prefers them. I use a wired system-I'm not wireless with my bass so it doesn't really make a difference. The big issue for me would only be running 3 monitor channels.The reason I like in ears is because you can get your own personal mix at a good volume.If you are sharing a mix with keys and guitar players then the only thing you can do personally is alter your volume,and all 3 of you will have to compromise on your in ear mix.

I put mine at the end of my effects chain,purely to balance things out a bit when I have multiple pedals going at once. If I'm using one of my multi effects,or no effects at all,I don't use a compressor.

[/quote] They used to have an Axe Bass and Guitar at my school in the music room in the late '90s.I didn't know much about basses then but I knew that my Tanglewood Rebel (the earlier model than the 4k) was a far better instrument. The Axe was horrible.

[/quote] When I mention a players characteristics,I meaning more about the way that they play that shapes their sound-it's an individual and unique thing to each player.You could class it as a style,but I think of style as being more of a genre thing with regards feel and note choices. No matter what you're running it through, it all starts with your hands, and everyone plays differently. How I pluck the strings will be different from how you pluck the strings and that is the biggest thing, way before the electronics. No need to fit a midi pickup to my bass...I've been running a V Bass with one of my basses for years

Maybe it could be something to do with the fact that you seem to have a problem with 'breadheads' as you mention them and the fact that there won't be paid work straight away? Most (all?) of the good players around will want to be getting paid work,especially if they are rehearsing every week and maybe paying for it.Also,they will probably have other commitments,which you also don't want. I'm not saying that you won't find a good player to join your band,but it may be limiting your search somewhat.

[/quote] Talent equating to fame was never mentioned and is a totally different discussion. I'm fully aware that there are a lot of full time musicians that don't play with 'name' acts,being as I make my living as a musician. In the opening post it said 'These guys are pro,no doubt',and I actually doubt that most of them are. You said that this was open to debate...my side is that what most of these guys are doing is not particularly great and I would much rather hear them up on a stage or on record making music rather than sitting at home playing songs to post on Youtube or whatever.

It's got a few glitches,but you can work with them. If I only take one effect to a gig,it's the OC2.

[/quote] I totally agree. In the opening post it says 'these guys are pros,no doubt',yet I never hear about the majority of Youtube players doing any form of pro gig (or any gig really). I don't get the whole Youtube playalong thing...I really do think 'so what?'. Everyone plays to records at some point but what's the point of putting it online? Also,the majority of 'lessons' are really poor. Taking a couple of popular Youtube guys-DavidSinRocks,to me,sounds like a poor copy of Flea in everything he plays (including the Maceo vid above) and is really unimpressive. Marlowe DK can play but,for me,his lessons don't have enough substance or information. He demonstrates everything clearly enough,but I'd like to hear him explain what he's doing more and why,rather than just mostly playing the licks at a slower tempo.I've not seen his website (I'm not interested), so if he does this,great,but I'm going off what I've seen on Youtube.

A lot of people don't want the hassle and expense of posting the scores out to the various musicians,especially when it's generally expected that they can read well enough o do the gig anyway. I've rarely had to read piano scores as well....the only time I have is when an Am Dram company is doing a compilation show and they just photocopy a piano reduction to give to everyone. It is annoying when you get them though.

I don't have chance to listen to the tune, but if the chords are just E, A and B you can easily play major arpeggios or scales over them. Even in a Blues, the chords are generally dominant ( I, III, V, bVII) so major will work over them-when playing a minor pentatonic over them the b3 of the scale is normally acting as the #9 of the chord,becauee the chord contains a major 3. I think what will be better for you at this point would be to focus mire on the chords than try to blanket them with a scale.In this case it's all in E major,but look at the chord tones- E major-E, G#, B...A maj- A, C#, E...B maj....B, D#, F#
