2. We're planning on doing a couple for our Christmas gig in a couple of weeks. Band Aid didn't go too well in the last rehearsal, think we're going to try Slade and Wizzard in the coming week. I'm not to sure on the ends of choruses for Wizzard though...
3. One of two local rehearsal studios, £30 or so for four hour session. Though we can only do 3 hours of it after getting home from work. Not the cheapest, but decent enough and being in a studio gets you in rehearsal mood.
4. A bit over a year ago I picked up my first bass rig, from the sale section on here. An Ashdown mag 300, and an Ashdown ABM 2 x 12 cab. It's done wonderfully for rehearsals and gigs since then, volume on about half way giving me food volume. The problem is the size, and to some extent weight, of the cab. I can get it through doors and up/down stairs on my own, just about, and it's still pretty awkward to carry with two of you... So, what's my best options for a cab that'll be a bit easier to transport? Some sort of 1 x 12 floor wedge cab? Any suggestions, at the cheaper end of the market, would he great. Thanks, Neil
5. Ohhh, I want to play one of these. Now.
6. Keep going... Especially the drummer, as we can all join in again and it looks planned...
7.
I buy most of my music in mp3 from Amazon now and it ends up on my home network drive, my phone, and various USB sticks for the car.
Same here. Buy mp3 on Amazon, easily download to computer and phone. Can also stream anything I've bought there, if I don't want to download.
8. Thanks. I'll make a new topic in the Off Topic forum to see if anyone's got any more suggestions.
9. Have an earphone issue, thought I'd add it to this thread rather then start a new one: With my last couple of sets (Sennheiser around the £20/30 mark) after a year or so I lose sound in one of the earphones. Think it's a broken connection at the plug end, as moving this bit can get intermittent sound. I guess that part does get put under stress of bending and twisting, but I don't treat them badly. Any suggestions for earphones that are a bit more robust? Or some way to stop this happening? Cheers.
10.
See a funny roadsign? --> band name! . . "The North / Hatfield" just waits to be used for a band name one day. Watch and see! Special family name? ---> band name! . . e.g. "Quaars-Liebrechts", my experimental band once upon a time Poem title? ------------------> band name! . . e.g. "Quand je te vois" or something similar - poetic music to existing poetry. etc etc
Or in my band's case: Sitting in a pub, "We need a name". Notice wine bottle on shelf by the table... "That'll do". We're spicy, full-bodied and delicious... apparently.
11. Seems pretty pointless to me. Could almost as easily put on your own gig which would be more fun and not lining someone else's pockets.
12. Just read through the thread for the first time, thanks to the resurrection. I'll always have a quick look at gear, more so if it's a professional band - to get an idea of what's out there and worth looking into. Only once had a chat with a guitarist about his set up, as I had problems with mine and his thoughts helped!
13.
Was he watching your fingers like a hawk?
I don't think so, but he did say afterwards that I didn't smile enough (we're mates as well so it was in a friendly way!). Having seen some photos this morning, I thinh he's right. My attempt at a "chilled, not bothered" look doesn't suite me at all, grinning like a goon from now on....
14.
Not that committed to work and family then, if he's got time to go to gigs..? Edit: Congratulations on your first gig, by the way!
Haha. I think it was a rare Saturday night that he had free. Thanks!
15. My first gig as a bassist! Went well overall, lots of fun. Had our old bassist (left the band due to work and family commitments) at the front the whole time, which was interesting...
16. It's now in the post to charic, so this thread can be moved to the completed section.
17. Just have the instrument (with strap attached) in its case/bag. Then a box with leads and everything else in - all in one place.
18. This'll be in the post to charic on Tuesday morning. Thank for the interest to everyone in the queue.
19. COMPLETED A red Line 6 Variax 300 guitar, in two pieces... A few years back I gave this its final outing on a gig on top of an open deck double-decker bus in London (which was cool) when it rained (which was not cool). Afterwards, I ended up taking the neck off the body (bad idea), and then realised that I couldn't get it to fit back in its pocket properly. It would fit in the pocket, but a few mm higher and not flush with the body as before. Since then, the guitar has sat unused and is now in my loft still in two bits. I don't have the skills or inclination to fix the guitar up. I've also no idea reliable the electronics are now. I know plenty of people dabble in build projects and this might just be what you're looking for. If you're interested, please get in touch and I'll fetch it from the loft to see what it's like and take pics. We can see about picking it up (from Essex or I can bring to central London) or perhaps posting. Cheers, Neil
20. Last-but-one rehearsal for gig (in just over a weeks' time) last night. Mostly new set, sort of new line-up (me on bass for most of the night, my first proper gig as a bassist!) and first real gig in almost two years. Generally went well, a few songs improved from dodgy the week before, to just about ready to gig. Only one song dropped because it's just not been working the last couple of rehearsals.
