I had the RV4. It looked like a rickenbacker with music man pickups. It was an excellent bass. I used it in a Jam tribute band while I was depping for them. Sold it recently. Very hard to sell as that annoying bloke ( I won't bother to name check him, he doesn't deserve it) from rickenbacker kept getting my ad pulled from ebay. But the new ones do look interesting. Familiar but different

sounds like a good price. I bought my wife's in from Japan via ebay. Paid about £300 plus taxes 4 years ago. Look forward to seeing it

It'll go to your local depot then. Sometimes takes a little while to clear customs so don't panic. Who did you buy from?

who's it coming with? If it's parcel force (shipped by EMS in Japan) you'll have to pay the duty and VAT upfront before they deliver. I normally go to the depot that has it and pay when I arrive, then I get to take it home with me. remember, we want pics

I've got a modern hofner violin bass. It's semi hollow and has la bella flats on it. Sounds amazing. Goes thump!! Highly recommended. It's a shame I don't get enough chances to use it live

I had a '62 when I bought this bass, but sold the '62 because this was better. Wish I'd kept it but I couldn't afford to at the time ( I was only 22 at the time)

[/quote] It is yes, I'd forgotten that I had it lying around and stuck it on in about 1991. One 'other' little quirk. When I took the neck off I found a piece of paper acting as a shim. It read, 'phone Jimmy Page' with a phone number. So my guitar tech phoned the number and got a very pi**ed off Jimmy Page on the phone. The piece of paper is still there!!

the headstock has seen a lot of cymbals!! The worn parch under the g string ( on the body) is where my fingers dig in when I play with a pick. The numbers on the bottom on the neck are too knackered to get the exact date but going by the serial number and date on the p/up I've always seen it as a '75. I had already discovered that P basses were my thing but this one is just perfect. The frets are really low but it still intonates ok. When it gets re-fretted it'll never feel the same, so hopefully it's got a few years left in it before It needs it.

Nice one, I've got a fretless one of these. Maple and natural. My bass player in my pub band (actually my mrs.) also has a Jap one. White with Rosewood. Lovely basses, you'll love it.

This is my number 1. Bought in London in 1990. Needed a set up and since then all that's been done is new pots and half the pickup isn't original (it's from a '79) after it went open circuit. It was (badly) refinished well before I got it but it's aged beautifully after the (literally) thousands of gigs. Badass bridge and gold mirror guard.

I've never been there but I've still managed to blow 2 grand with them. Mark seems like a great bloke

allen & heath ZFX24 (sometning like that) QSC K12 top cabs Ksub bass bins. 4K. nice and portable and makes a damn fine noise. We're a pub band but I've used this rig outdoors and was amazed how good it was.

never had a problem with schallers. Just make sure the bit on the strap is 1, tight (locktite, what a great idea) 2, the right way up. I've got dunlops (tyres lol!!) on my Les Paul and they've failed twice, mid solo. Don't know why.

at home, I never really touch my gigging gear. They all sit in their gig bags waititng to be loaded into the car. There is always a guitar/bass/acoustic leaning against or hanging on the wall in the lounge. So I use them. After the gig I don't even wipe them down. Straight back into their gig bags (except when I'm using a Les Paul, hard case for them)

between 1990 and end of 96 my band did 639 gigs. previously I was doing about 4 a week for 2 years since then it's been about 50 a year. both on bass and guitar and sometimes singing without either. so about 1800 ish crikey

if you're playing guitar on, say, an ac/dc number, the last thing you want is to change the key. The song's are sometimes written around open chords and if you play them any other way, it just doesn't sound right. me, my opinion, for what it's worth (which isn't a lot these days) is, original key is a must.

thought I'd update this thread. After 3 weeks my amp came back. No details as what went wrong so I phoned Ampeg UK (loud technologies) and quoted the serial number, 'no,' said the service department. 'we've not seen that one back'. It turns out DV repalced it after all, but why did it take 3 weeks? But it's still working after 8 gigs and sounding great. Fingers crossed

that should do it. I would still track down a proper XPS if you can. Although one of the outputs is an XLR so it may not actually be any good to you. good luck, keep us posted

Maude, I use the XPS with a Variax JTV-59 (the new les paul shaped thing, with magnetic pickups). I use the XPS as an A-B switch (to switch the acoustic sounds into the PA) and also to power the guitar. I have no experience with the older variax batteries, but the new one does last well. But I needed the A-B switch and the fact that the XPS powers it is a bonus. I know it runs on batteries and I just don't understand it either. But I was pointed in the right direction by the line 6 forum and the voodoo labs forum. Sure buy a replacement on ebay, as long as it's the equivalent to the line 6. If it powers a line 6 pod, it will work. I just happened to have a pod so I robbed its PSU.

you need an ac psu. I've got an enormous pedal board with a voodoo labs PSU and it still won't power the XPS. use the line 6 one that comes with a pod. (that's what I do, I have a pod knocking about that I don't use) and get a decent quality TRS lead.

move to Kent, there's a real lack of bass players down here (although there are 2 in my pub covers band!!) don't sell your gear, just in case
