With everything going smaller etc it's a great concept for now. It was probably 10 years ahead of the game. The ability now to choose a preamp, eq, tuner, compressor, di, and a/b or d power amp to build a custom amp - that you can change if you like - would save on pedal boards, helix, and other fiddly add ons.
-
It's the never ending GAS, but gees, I love stuff like that!
-
I think it was getting there.... Solid state or valve preamp. EQ options Small eq/Larger eq/7 band eq etc. Different powered power amps. Different types of power amps - a/b or d. If they had done a compressor, tuner, (I dont know if they did?) and different types of pre amps (rocky, jazzy, funky), and then even fx such as chorus/distortion etc you've suddenly got a really big array of options.
-
It makes perfect sense to me. It's pretty much a combination of an amp and a pedal board all in one.
-
Ok, so I'm late to the party noticing these, but I really love the concept of the markbass momark. The fact you can build up an amp from different component blocks is a brilliant idea. So in effect youd get you perfect amp. Why didnt these catch on, and why did no one else pick up on this concept? With everything going class d and modular (pre amp pedals etc) it's the perfect solution in my eyes. Want an svt sound, add a sansamp block, want a 12 band eq, add a twelve band eq, want chorus or fx, add that, want a tuner add that.

I think gk suffer from not being available to try in many mainstream shops. Plus I think they cost £1k+ when new.

Superb amp. Really great. One I regret selling, but needed the cash (thanks covid). Big, but not too heavy, but a glorious sound.
-
Weirdly I've just returned to markbass with a sansamp, after using a trace v6, ashdown ctm300, ashdown abm600, GK 550 fusion and I prefer it to them all.
-
As mentioned in other threads, I think part of the class d issue is that people also use them with often singular, small, lightweight cabs, and then people compare them to a big iron head with a large heavy multi speaker cab.
-
I'm pretty sure the next incarnation is solid state a/b amps in class d sized packages. I'm sure gk announced this then backtracked when they realised class d sales would plummet.

I thought it was the worst looking thing ever a few years ago. Now I love it. I think it's like getting older and wearing Jean's and a suit jacket...

I played this with 2 bands now at practice. 1 was straight into an ashdown abm 600 and 8x10 cab, playing pop covers. 1 was into my sansamp and markbass 2x10 set up playing indie rock covers. Its SUCH a good bass to play! It really does do what jeff says - it's easy to play, every note sings and you dont have to dig in hard for it to be heard, its authoritative even when tickling the strings. The abm set up was more mid sounding I'd guess youd say, so I just held back on the tone and it fitted nice in the mix. The markbass/sansamp setting was up there with the best sounds I've had bass wise. I'd say 7/8 rolled into the bridge pick up and 2/8 tone rolled on. Lovely warm sound. So much so I'm tempted to use it in the oasis band this weekend. Even if it's just to show it can be done and isnt just a bass for playing jazz.

It's a strange design. I think jeff said his wife drew it?

What is with the constant asking for serial numbers?
la bam replied to la bam's topic in General Discussion
I'm just making people aware that there is something going on on facebook marketplace. Its not to tarnish genuine buyers or sellers with the same brush. What they choose to do with that information is upto them. For what it's worth, I cant work it out, and I agree it seems a lot of trouble to go to for smallish rewards, but I guess it depends what scale it's being done at, and what the actual scam is. -
What is with the constant asking for serial numbers?

Well, in one way it's good, but not if the scammers have got a serial number from someone selling a genuine instrument, then copied it onto a fake one. -
Couldnt resist in the end. Got a great deal on this, and was able to try at the shop, so I really didnt have an excuse for not at least giving it a go. A couple of years ago I'd have found this a horrible looking thing, and wouldnt have given the twin humbucker looking pickups a second glance. Now though..... well, I love it! Looks stunning in the flesh, and the build quality is just a work of art. The sound is wide and varied, but the main sound imo is bridge pick up on, and take it away! Its punchy, rounded and sounds really rich. It has that raspy stingray sound about it and every note really does rung out without any extra effort, especially high up the neck. Rolling on the ne k pick up rounds out the bite and does sound nice. You can get some convincing p bass sounds out of it too! Gonna give it a whirl at practice wednesday!

Theres definitely something going on. The way I was being asked when selling mid range basses was just weird. Really aggressively wanting the serial numbers. Then after a bit of digging, they were miles away, no way was it a genuine sale question. -

Looks like my hunch was right.... Quite a few people on facebook now complaining that people are asking for full serial numbers, then reporting the bass in question as stolen and giving the serial number number as 'proof' it was theirs.... Be careful everyone, as if there wasnt enough scams around...... -
Completely agree with Bill. I use 2 vertically stacked 210s now and the miniscule power needed to hear them is ridiculous. I literally have my markbass head at no more than 9 o'clock for biggins gigs and it's as loud as I'd ever need.
-
I've been after one too previously. Frustratingly, I'm sure markbass used to make hard cases for their amps years ago. http://www.markbass.it/product-detail/hard-case-little-mark/
-
Markbass have had it right all along. Lightweight, yet big sounding, clear gear. I started with markbass, went on a 10 year round the houses journey, and ended up back with them. Pretty much with the same kit as I started with. Only thing I'd say is my sansamp really brought the cabs to life.
-
I'd have a listen first. I have the Italian traveller 2x10 (2 off) and they're the best cabs I've ever used, and I've used. Theyve replaced my ashdown abm cabs, and my barefaced cabs.

Trojan Gear Cart- heavy duty gear trolley
la bam replied to yorks5stringer's topic in General Discussion
It looks like a copy of the djs staple trolley - the rock n roller. They come in all kinds of different set ups. -
Fender flea jazz roadworn. The only bass that puts a smile on my face whatever rig I play it through. Feels brilliant to wear, easy to play and looks great. Can be left anywhere without worry of getting a ding. The dual volume and tone controls per pickup are superb. So many options for sound.
