2. I'm sorely tempted as I tried one of these years ago and it sounded truly magnificent, but

I can't afford it
I definitely can't afford a cab to go with it
I'd never get approval from SWMBO
I wouldn't be able to do it justice in the foreseeable future
3.
West Staines Massiv. Aight?
Booyakasha
  4. In my experience Gumtree is used for things that weren't sold on ebay, or stuff that's nicked - or both ...
  5.
Welcome How are you finding getting back into playing? Is it like riding a bike?
Yeah - I more or less picked up the bass and got straight back into it. Perhaps the fingers weren't as nimble (or the mind as quick) and I couldn't remember all the songs I used to play but otherwise it's been just like riding a bike. I got back into playing after being introduced to the Rock Project Encore in Windsor, which is kind of like a bunch of blokes attempting to deal with a middle aged crisis!
  6.
... and, er... Robb Huxley, singer with The Tornados, a 60s group famous for their hit, Telstar.
Wasn't Telstar an instrumental track?
  7. Hi (waves), I joined a few weeks ago but thought Id better follow protocol and formally introduce myself. Been playing bass on and off since approx 1984. Just started playing again (thanks to the Rock Project Encore in Windsor) a few months ago after not touching a bass since early 2003 - marriage, kids and other hobbies took priority. Based in the general vicinity of what is allegedly about to become Staines Upon Thames.
  8. My place of residence is where Hard Fi hail from - them and Ali G. I'm not boasting, just stating.
  9.
Reaper is a beast but worth it! A license for an individual isn't that much once the free trial is up either.
Just waiting for payday ...
  10. From the news section on the LBGS website - Neil Murray and Tony Butler to give masterclasses - Andrew Levy (Brand New Heavies) - Jon Thorne to deliver masterclass - TM Stevens back by popular demand Not sure if I can make it but would like to see Neil Murray and Tony Butler.
  11. After reading this Audacity thread I decided to download and install Reaper then did the same for the demo versions of Kontakt Player and Guitar Rig. Then with the aid of Google to find some online tutorials along with some free VSTs as per this VST thread . I just won an ebay auction for a Novation NIO 2 / 4 USB Audio Interface so now I'm set for both audio recording and using a midi controller. First impressions of Reaper are that it's really powerful but you need to follow some tutorials if you're new to this kind of thing.

    I Want You Back

Really nice. I had a quick bash at getting to grip with that bass line a couple of weeks ago, great bass line.
  13.
Big +1 to this. I use an Alpha on my desktop PC ... I found the Cubase (LE5) that came bundled with it was expceptionally good ...
Cheers - that's the kind of thing I was hoping to hear
  14. I'm looking to do some basic recording at home and can't decide beween the Lexicon Alpha with Cubase LE or the M-box with Pro-Tools Essentials. Amazon have got deals on at the moment so both of the above are around £50 at the moment and that's the budget of got in mid at the moment. I've used Cubase in the past so I'm kind of leaning that way. I'm looking for something that'll have some guitar amp simulators built in and the ability to put some basic programmed drum tracks, guitar over-dubs and vocals. Other guys I play with in the band have mentioned Cakewalk and Garageband. Any recommendations before I take the plunge based on instinct?
  15. Looking back in things it was probably JJ Burnell who got me interested in playing bass, but in terms of those who influenced my playing style (or who I look to for inspiration) - Jack Bruce - Boz Burrell - John Wetton - Geddy Lee - Les Claypool (just for taking bass playing to a whole new place)
  16. Are the photos of the guitar you were offering on Gumtree a while ago? The Gumtree ad has expired (unlees it's sold already). I'm very interested cos I want a Tele style guitar to mess around on when I'm not playing bass. I'm in Staines so not too far away.
