1. Ordered one on Saturday - got a text on Monday to expect delivery on Tuesday. Delivered Tuesday via courier - not only that but SWMBO was out so the courier called me to say he'd tried the neighbours without success and what should he do next Unpacked it last night and tried it out, I'm very impressed, certainly the nicest amp cover I've seen and great value for money. To answer the above question "Do these speaker covers have protection for the underside of the cab ?". The straight answer is no, but I'm sure that if you called him he'd sort something out for you, although it'll be a custom requirement so I imagine will cost more and take longer.
2. Oooooh
3. The N9xxxxx serial number looks good for a 1990 model according to http://home.provide.net/~cfh/fender.html#serial Here's a photo of my headstock for comparison
4. Hmmm - I spent a couple more minutes looking at the headstock photo and it dawned on me that the headstock on the photo doesn't appear to be varnished/laquered in any way. Although mine is a maple neck and the advertised one is in rosewood I'm pretty sure (although it as was quite a long time ago that I bought mine) there was no option for a satin type finish and the laquer/varnish on mine is super shiny/reflective and I don't see any kind of reflection off the headstock. I'll endeavour to post a photo of mine for comparison.
5. In terms of the headstock I just had a look at my early/mid 80s Jazz and they match up pretty well in terms of decals and the truss rod adjuster, however mine doesn't have the very tiny decal towards the rounded end (which I'm assuming reads American Standard on the one in the ebay ad). I know that mine is original since I bought it from new. The one piece scratch plate and white knobs also match, but closer inspection would be needed to see if the neck profile matched (which is quite different to other Jazz basses I've seen/played). I'm no expert in basses of this period but I understand there was a certain amount of mix/match of components so it's possible that the small decal is a valid one.
6. Apart from the facial expressions I was quite impressed with the bass player (and his bit of foam). The guitarist wasn't too shabby either.
7.
Veet for men?
Not quite the right thread ...
8.
... like a cross between "Macy Gray and Matt Lucas", visually-speaking:
I thought exactly the same thing.
9. The bass player was pulling some strange faces, I wasn't sure if he was coming or just really getting into the groove.
10. I'm disappointed. After reading the title of the post I was expecting "I've been dating my Fender Jazz for several months now but I really fancy her sister Precision ..."
11. I bought the Ampeg PF500 and PF115 HE in March and got to gig them for the first time on Friday night. I'm really impressed with it. The sound is just solid and I've had none of the afore-mentioned cutting out issues. In fact I purposefully went over budget when making the purchase to get the matching cab (even though it wasn't strictly necessary) not just to avoid such issues but so I could utilise the "flip top" feature too..Everyone who sees/hears it is blown away and the purple light on the front panel makes it look extra "cool".
12.
If you limit first you are knocking the transient peaks off before you hit any other fx. This may be exactly what you want, but it may not....
Some experimentation is in order I think
13.
Compression first to fatten things up before the effects, limiting last to catch any nasty peaks exacerbated by any fx running is another option.
Aha - I think that I've got mine set up the other way around (limiter then compressor). I'll switch things around. In fact cos of the way the flexibility of the Alesis unit I could go bass -> compressor -> amp input -> limiter (via effect send/return) -> amp Thanks for the responses - they've been most helpful.
14. I've got a question about where to put my compressor/noise gate in the "chain" I've got an old Alesis 3630 which is basically 2 compressor/limiter/noise gates together in one rack mount unit and I decided to try using it to see if I could improve the sound. My question is should I put it between my bass and amp (bass -> effect > amp) or link it via the effect send/return in the amp (bass -> amp -> effect -> amp) At the moment I'm using the 2nd option and it's sounding pretty good but it occured to me that it may not be the "correct" way to do things.
15. It's possible that you have an obsession other than the Mesa Walkabout ...
16. Since my current band got together we started a "tradition" of bringing along a couple of packs of Becks Blue or Erdinger Blue, I wouldn't normally dink such stuff, somehow it doesn't seem so wrong to drink alcohol free beer at practice. Even so I keep it to a couple of bottles cos I don't want to get caught short on the 25 mile drive home.
17. Nice, but I already have one similar (see Avatar) Have a bumpetty bump on me
18. I got a chance to try mine out at a decent volume last night. Wow .. super clear and great tone
19. Just bought a Danelectro Grilled Cheese distortion pedal off Jim. No problems, great communication, well packaged. Big thumbs up. Many thanks Jim Andy
20.
Does that mean there's no more amps left in Andeertons? Last time I was there, since their renovation, the only bass amp they had was a Portaflex?
My purchase was accelerated since I saw that they only had 2 PF500s in stock According to their website there's now 1 x PF500 (since I bought the other) and 6 x PF350 They're out of the PF-115 HE's now (wipes brow since I now have 1 sitting at home).
21.
MUST RESIST!
I couldn't. I'd been looking at the Micro VR + SVT210 AV but at the weekend I read this thread, took a looking at the Andertons site and got tempted by the Portaflex PF500 along with the PF-115HE. As luck would have it I got confirmation yesterday of a bonus payment at work and somehow I ended up with these items in my online basket and the random numbers that I fired into the payment page just happened to match my bank card! If things pan out OK I'll pick up on Thursday or failing that at the weekend. Quite excited
22. Is the Fab Tone still for sale? If so is it the new style (plastic case) or older style (metal case)? Have you got a photo?
