1.
Hello everyone. Constantine here from Canada I just wanted to say thank you for the kind words, and Yes my name is Constantine Isslamow. Cheers Constantine
We are not worthy (bows) Welcome to BassChat, sir.
2. ...I do have the solution to this as it was used (with a carefully placed solid grey circle to mask some dubious content...) as an end of term activity for a Music class at my school. It's in my DropBox if you need it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/e6065js5w4m9dll/BandName.pptx?dl=0
3. He's got everything you need in that room, for a great Friday night at home alone. Apart from a tube of Pringles. And possibly some wet wipes.
4. Frightening. The seller sounds like a bit of a laugh tho....
5.
Oh, and I have always used the open A as well.
Then you sir, have an ear for detail and are obviously a gentleman of taste, quality and discernment.
6.
Yeah, I have used his videos for a couple of songs in the past. As you say, accurate and nicely played but I think they are a little joyless sometimes. Nice range of basses though!
A few people have picked up on his rather stern demeanor... he put it down to the fact he was concentrating really hard. He does make the occasional fluff-up (there's a beaut in the "Let's Dance" playalong), but I can forgive him. And the audio is decent quality in his vids, too.
7. Thanks to Karlfer for the pic. Here's a price drop bump.
8. Those of you who play in covers bands or back-bedroom warriors who play along with their fave tunes just for their own amusement, will have probably used YouTube for a bit of visual assistance for those "is there really an open 'A' ringing out in the Bass break in "All Right Now"?" moments. (...sorry, not sure about the punctuation there...) I'm sure you've found out that it's a mixed bag - from the "Oh yeah!" to the "Oh...really?" A personal highlight/lowlight is the charming, yet shirtless Italian (?) gentleman who tackles Led Zep's "Dancing days" with enthusiasm, gusto and no idea of Western tonality. In my opinion, one man stands proud. BassChat can we please have some love for Constantine Isslamow. Seeing this gentleman's name on a video is a veritable trademark of quality. Always accurate, beautifully played, left hand in shot at all times and played on a selection of lovely instruments. He's the go-to guy for all your "Classic Rock Covers band" needs. Seriously. His videos have helped me out immensely since I stumbled across them about eighteen months ago. Constantine is the man and I salute you sir. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiv_DCslaDDJPX-rxFgRCPg
9. Flaming Lips at Goldwins in Brum, some time in the 90s. Not a massive venue and the sound was tangible...like being pushed in the chest. They were ace.
10. [s]£170 + postage [/s]SOLD Hi chums, Here's a lovely thing - a good condition Nikki Sixx Blackbird. Only one ding as far as I can see - just by the strap button on the front edge. I've ticked it in and it's barely noticeable - it wouldn't show up in a photograph. The two main anchor screws on the bridge are a little rough, but it works well. Plays really well - a great, ballsy rock tone. The "on/off" switch is genius. It's loaded with a set of DR Neons in red (pink, really...) It's got a plain black neck plate, but I'll chuck the Epiphone one in, too. Neck dive you say? Never had any. The button is on the neck plate and with a thick strap, it's steady. Live out your Hair Metal fantasies with this subtle, understated Bass. You know you want to. £170 and it's yours. This is a big ol' thing to post, so pick up is preferred, but I'll post for £20. You're welcome to arrange your own courier. Hard and soft cases are available separately. I'm in Halesowen in the Wild West Midlands and the kettle is always on. Bring biscuits. I can't get my pictures on here, so I've made a folder on Photobucket: http://s306.photobuc...brary/Blackbird Ta! Rushbo
11. A bit of interest, but nothing permanent....this is a great opportunity for someone.
12.
None of those bands do the Pepper-on-steroids thing like Cheap Trick or Rundgren did.
Jellyfish! Well worth a listen if you're not familiar with 'em. Todd and CT are ace, too.... (ooops, sorry, I missed the "British" caveat...)
13.
Bill Oddie used to go to Lapal Primary School and Halesowen Grammar School.
My youngest lad goes to Earls- formerly Halesowen Grammar. You think there'd be a statue of The Goodies there at least...
14. I'm a "Bassist" who plays "Bass Guitar".
15. Come to Halesowen, where everyone knows someone who knows someone whose dad used to go to school with Robert Plant. Or Glenn Tipton.
16. They're ace.they are.
17.
Can we change the title of this thread to "How The Beatles still grip Basschat"?
Yes please. Oh wait...are you being...sarcastic?
18. Is the wiring cavity cover made out of used Hubba Bubba chewing gum?
19.
I'd wear the boots
If you're talking Cuban Heels, I still do.
20.
That all seems to be an argument against The Beatles being the greatest band ever and suggests they simply touched your raw nerves at a vulnerable time because you happened to be there at the time. That's fine and understandable but on that basis you should understand that, presumably, other bands/film stars/celebs did, and still do, the same thing for every other generation of kids trying to find themselves during their own 'coming of age' thing.
Amen to that. I first heard "A Night at the Opera" by Queen in 1976 and it blew me away. Since then, my musical tastes have drifted from Pop, to Rock, to Jazz, back to Rock, to pretty Avant Garde stuff, to Indie and back to Rock again. But the one constant has been that album. That first profound musical experience stays with you forever and can shape your tastes (or at least, your interest) in music for a lifetime. For a lot of people in the US, that first profound musical experience was The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in Feb '64. Some students I have taught have said their lives were changed by seeing Nirvana perform "...Teen Spirit" on The Word or hearing their older brother playing the first Clash album. One guy (now a diehard Bring Me The Horizon/My Chemical Romance fan) had his wheels blown off by the first Spice Girls album. The bands, music and context may change, but that experience is universal.
21. I have "petite" hands, but I've always played regular basses, so that's what I'm used to. The easiest solution would be a shorter scale instrument, but if that is out of the question, then perseverance is the key along with a bit of flexibility with your left hand thumb position.
22. In the words of Alan Partridge- "Wings...the band The Beatles could have been". If there was a museum for them in Liverpool (says he, vainly trying to get the thread back on topic...) I'd go to that as well.
23. They did write ace pop songs though. A real shot in the arm on both sides of the Atlantic. A welcome relief from Bobby Vee and Bobby Rydell....
