1.
Secondhand Schroeders (£400 - £450) are a good alternative for those (myself included) who just haven't got £750 - £850 to spend.
The Barefaced Compact is £540 brand new and delivered.
2.
Edited to add that I would also consider Barefaced but not too many second hand cabs out there
That is very true - it proves the point that once you have a Barefaced cab you won't want to part with it...! Remember also that Alex at Barefaced offers a 30-day trial whereby a buyer can try out a BF cab and, if they decide it's not to their liking, it may be returned for a refund (less original postage cost). This is an excellent offer and allows the cab to be tested at rehearsals and in a live gig situation - how many other bass cabs can you do that with...? I bet Alex hasn't done many refunds...
3.
The Beta 10s used in the OBC 410 have only 102cc displacement each, for a total of only 408cc.
Thanks for the clarification Bill - that's very poor in terms of performance.
4. Well the Orange SP410 is also isobaric (like the SP210) so the same lack of Vd applies. The SP410 will only have a displacement of 300cc compared to the BF Compact at 566cc...and it weighs 64lbs versus 27lbs for the Compact. The regular Orange 4X10 will give a Volume displacement of 600cc but it weighs 95lbs
5. An Isobaric speaker has one 12" driver behind the other so only one is hanging out the front and in contact with the air therefore measurements such as SPL (how loud it can go) will be determined as if it were a 1X12...ie, not very loud. You need a better cab that is capable of moving far more air...your (effectively) 1X12 cab has an approximate Volume displacement (air movement capability) of around 250cc whereas a properly designed 2X12 would have a Vd around 680cc - almost three times as much. I will now quote Bill Fitzmaurice from another thread: Doubling driver displacement offers the same increase in volume as quadrupling your power output.
6.
XGSJX, I want it to be at least 800 watts because that what my head runs at 8 Ohms. I don't want to blow anything up or cause any damage to a cab by overpowering it.
Cab RMS wattage ratings are mostly to be taken with a pinch of salt in reality - they are normally rated at the maximum wattage before the voice coils melt. The bigger problem is the speaker excursion - very few 10" drivers can handle their true wattage rating and will bottom out (hit their excursion limits) well before they exceed their RMS maximum rating. Lots more info here: http://barefacedbass.com/technical-information/understanding-power-handling.htm
7.
The current WT800A is 440w at 8 ohm & 880w bridged at 8 ohm (1100w at 4 ohm).
Sounds like it's made for the BF Super 12 (a 4 ohm cab).
8.
@winterfire666 Yeah there is a SWR G3 going cheap on here too, so might be worth looking into them a bit more, just can't seem to find any sound clips of the thing. As I said to Fuzz I'm a bit unsure about the barefaced cabs as I wasn't blown away by the one I played through. Hey maybe I just need to give them a another chance, but the cab it self been portable isn't to much of a problem for me. Although it would be nice to have a light and small cab haha!
winterfire said his SWR G3 (4X10) with his Big Ben (1X18) combined still got blown away by a Barefaced S12 - you should seriously consider them, they are leading the technology race in modern bass cab design and sound incredible - I've never heard a better bass cab and I've tried many. Also, the BF Super 12 weighs 40lbs which is a revelation for a cab that can handle 1000W RMS easily. Oh, and that Vintage T in the For Sale section is sold
9. Sorry no - but it's exactly like this one: http://www.westone.info/thunder3afretlessbass.html
10. I don't think the original Westone Thunder fretless was available lined - the only way you will get one is to buy a de-fretted example. I haven't played much fretless but I love my unlined Thunder III and intonation isn't so difficult once you get familiar with the neck. Also, for information, these basses can be used without batteries (in passive mode) if required. I love mine
11. Here's mine: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Einhell-Folding-Truck-90kg-Capacity/dp/B001GU6FYI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333786774&sr=8-1 It carries up to 90kg and only cost £22.39 including delivery. It's light and packs away small - I'm very pleased with it.
12. Are your Very Good basses fitted with active preamps...? The EBS can distort with very high output basses: http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/multicomp.shtml
13.
Doubling driver displacement offers the same increase in volume as quadrupling your power output.
The Barefaced Compact actual displacement is 566cc which is approaching four times the displacement of your SP210...
14.
I would add a Barefaced compact. That would make an awesome rig.
+100
15. I'm curious about these but my understanding is that they have most effect on a hollow stage. Studiospares also sell strips of the foam 2" X 4" and four feet in length for around £12 - I reckon a sheet of decent ply and a couple of spare carpet tiles should do the trick...anyone else tried building one...? http://www.studiospa...search?q=461330
16. ...to isolate what...?
17.
Help!!! don't we mix 10s and 15s anymore. I thought the mix of the 2 sizes is good
Let's reverse the question - why do you thing mixing speaker sizes is good...?
18. Search the bay for item No. 290689391956 for all the details.
19. The last one to sell on the bay went for £250
20. TURN OFF YOUR CAPS BUDDY...it makes it easier to read. Cheers
21. ...and swapping four preamp valves will most likely be considerably cheaper.
22.
Interesting discussion, as I'm sitting here with an ebay parcel all sealed up and addressed to .... Italy. I've sent basses and other things there without problems. So is my luck about to run out?
I think in general Italy is not a major problem but the customs delays can cause a lot of hassle for the buyer and seller. Always make sure the Italian buyer is aware that there may be delays of some weeks on occasion.
23. That is a fine example of what can be acheived (albeit you do it all the time...!). I've been reading about your work Ou7shined - that looks great...!
24. If it were mine, I would either get a pale mint green scratchplate and be done or I would go tortoiseshell scratchplate with a black pickup cover....lovely *Edit* Like this: http://cdn1.gbase.com/usercontent/gear/2984579/p1_ut3jqe4xx_so.jpg
25. Good luck and don't forget to post it in the Build Diaries.
