3. I agree with everything posted above, I've got it and it's a great resource for bebop ideas and sight reading. Cheers Alun
4. Looks good, thanks for posting this. This quote made me laugh though.... "an electric bass is not any kind of substitute for a string bass and should be written for as a different instrument, suitable for music with intentionally dominating bass parts only" Cheers Alun
5. The Peel in Kingston upon Thames with Panic Room. The place was absolutely packed and we had a great night.
6. Some great tips here Technically look at plucking near the neck ( or over it) and use your thumb or the side of your fingertip rather than your fingertip to pluck. Cheers Alun
7.
Damn it. It's my cousin's birthday on 31st, otherwise I would have definitely checked our your set - and the strippers next door!
Ha ha, yes we only discovered them when our guitarist walked through the wrong door last time. He walked through it a lot after that
8. Hello. Just found this ... http://www.haax.se/basspatches/manualsite/index.php?unit=B2 Haven't tried them yet but there's lots to fiddle with Cheers Alun
9.
Oh Yes another f**kin awesome player. Apparently he's a fire-fighter now. I read it but don't know how true it is. pj
I've heard that too and he was studying to be one when the band got their record deal so it's quite likely that he went back to it. Cheers Alun
10.
When I was 16 i saw a Cornish band called rootjoose in my town, They were jaw droppingly good live and the bass player Harry Collier was brilliant. He was tasteful, clever in note choice, brilliantly melodic, fast at times and came up with the first slap riff i ever learned, oh and sang. The band as a whole wrote some genius pop/funk songs but were a little off the wall and too happy for some. Sham eHarry went on to form the rubbish band that was Cubb wgich was dull as dish water IMHO
I'd forgotten all about them ! I played on the same bill as them at a festival in the late 90s and they were phenomenal. Cheers Alun
11. Hello. Panic Room will be playing at : The Garage, Swansea - Fri Jan 30 The Peel, Kinston upon Thames - Sat Jan 31 Cheers Alun
12. Hi folks. Just a quick post/plug for a residential course I'll be teaching on in Llanelli, South Wales from 3-5 April this year. The main tutors are trumpeter Steve Waterman and sax player Alan Barnes as well as myself and local sax player Rob Marks. It'll be the 4th year I've done this course and it's always fun so if anyone fancies it, more info can be found HERE Cheers Alun
13. Guven the choice - stage left for a right handed drummer so I can see the bass drum pedal and hi hat. That way I can still lock in even if the monitoring is so bad that I can't hear the drums ( sounds unlikely but happens). Generally though I do quite a bit of dep work and stand where I'm told Cheers Alun PS I agree with bassace for upright though, stage right is better for actually being able to see the band.
14. Spoke to Proel today and they're expecting to get prices in a few weeks so we'll have to wait for a bit. Cheers Alun
15. Another underrated player - Muzz Skillings from Living Colour. Was overshadowed a bit when Doug Wimbish replaced him but some of the playing on Time's Up is scary.
16. Deacon Blue with Ewan Vernal on bass - some genius playing And maybe not underrated as a band but I don't think the bassist gets anywhere near enough recognition - Crowded House and the wonderfully wonderful Nick Seymour
17.
m7b5 surely?
You could argue either as B and C are both in the scale
18.
Check out some of these.... looks great.... especially liking the sound of the digital pedals with usb action - NAMM News
They look very interesting The tube compressor and distortion pedals look fun. Will try and find out prices Cheers Alun
19. Oddly enough my Boss DS1 does exactly the same - no idea why! Not much help, but you're not alone
20. I would go with mucho compression and it being doubled by a synth. There was a transcription in Bass Player recently which, IIRC, had some quotes from Zender so am surprised if he didn't play on it. Cheers Alun
21. Anyone tried this on on bass yet? http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/US600.aspx Looks like a cheapy version of the Boss PS pedals. Could never justify the money for the Boss but for less than £40 I could be tempted Cheers Alun
22. Isn't the second chord of the melodic minor Dm7? Cheers Alun
23.
I submitted: I guarantee i guessed right but won't have a hope in hell of getting picked, unless the judges have a sense of humour.
And is locked down to only play one style of music presumably
24. Forgot to mention that I also switch the tweeter on the 210P cab off as I found it too violent
