1. That's fab ! Would never normally consider purple but love this model esp that neck / headstock
2. Black & cream !
3. No but I do have two big singles & love em ! I'd do it if I was putting a bass together.
4. Dunno what driver it is. I got it a few years ago from Brian (Treble Clef) as he misplaced my combo he was repairing so I got a couple of 10" bass drivers as compensation, he thought were pretty good. I thought it looked like an Eminence as I've had a few of these in the past but this one has a coating on the cone .. it's pretty decent. I've only a modded Yamaha BBN5 up for sale but since putting some original Wizard 84's in I'm having second thoughts, I had these pups before in 4 string Jazz & loved em ! Come check em both out but bring an amp
5.
Ayup...how about removing the driver and taking a look??!!
what is it you want to see ? You're welcome to come check it out & I'll open it up if you want lol You still got that frankenjazz I put together a few years ago ? I'm always modding something
6. Minimum is not a problem, I've used it with my 15w valve amp quite a few times & it sounds fine. Max is more a problem but this handled previous Yamaha power amp very well & took a few hundred watts for a little test, it got impressively loud ... so low wattage again no problem & I've always read that you can't underpower speakers ...
7. Nice one ... I do like the look of one (or two) of those cabs. Please post more once you've broken them in .... and/or after honeymoon period
8. SOLD - I initially built this 1x10 ported bass cab to pair up with a little Traynor 15w valve amp (also FS) for home practice, however I've tested this little cab with a powerful amp & it really surprised me how well it performed. It's been stained/distressed/tru-oiled (similar to a guitar cab I also built). Neutrik speakon & 1/4" jack inputs, 8 Ohm woofer but unsure what brand, thought it was Eminence tho has waterproof type coating on cone. Don't let the shabby look cool you, this cab is well made with 3/4" ply, finger joints, metal speaker grille etc ... can get dimension & weight later if you want but it's nice & compact ... Bring your amp with you if you want to test it .. £70 Trades - SA Soundblox2 pedals / Digitech jamman solo xt or similar
9. Cheers .. I did email Hypex but they haven't replied as yet. I can't really afford any of them anyway so when I build my next cab I think I might leave space to integrate the minima one unit I have in my powered bagend cab.
10. Think there are enough of us reading your build that don't think you're wasting our time & I for one don't ... Very interesting & hats off to you for doing this ... looking forward to see the end product. I've built a few cabs & would love to build just a power amp into one but to be honest most of the amp techy stuff is way over my head. I looked at the module you bought but even tho they say its 'plug n play' I don't see it but it is new to me.
11. I've done it a few times & it's really quite rewarding esp when they sound good .. I've been a bit bolder with my last two diy cabs & have done finger joints (35 years ago since I was shown dovetail & can't remember lol) .. so go for it but like some have said it might not be a cheap option .... or I might be persuaded to part with my 110
12. Nice one ... got me thinking about possibly doing the same in our band. I didn't think the guitar part on your vid was bass at first lol so I guess the otave poly thing actually works, but without it I'm also guessing it doesn't sound good ? ie just splitting the bass signal & sending one half to bass amp clean & other to guitar amp distorted without octave up will not sound good ?
13. I run a pre pedal into a Bagend powered cab but at 36kg it's no lightweight, however with the amount of gigs we're anticipating I probably can't justify one ... I did buy a S12 direct from Alex when they came out & it was brilliant, in fact the cab actually moved backwards (on smooth laminate floor) when I fully cranked my GK 700 ! That's how much air they move .. was so efficient. So I'd buy one based on my previous barefaced experience but sadly I can't afford one ....
14. I loved the sound of a cranked GK RB but also like clean for certain parts (maybe with some modulation). When I sold most of my gear after finishing with my last band I wasn't sure if I'd join another .. well I did after a year & a half but I took a different approach .... In current band I can express myself a lot more & want a two channel clean / dirt type setup with effects. I tried a pedal preamp with effects A / B loop switch setup & run into a powered cab. I now do direct from bass into a RMI Basswitch IQ DI & utilize it's two effects loops then out to powered cab .. I'm still building this reasonably compact pedal board but it will allow me just to take it without the powered cab should the need arise & either use any backline (as long as the amp has a power amp in / effects return jack) and/or run straight to FOH DI. If I was just playing straight up heavy rock stuff like I used to I'd just do plug & play into a nice amp (with a quality cab) but things have changed for me & I can still get that sound but now much more all at my feet ...
15. Camel of Doom got a new album out soon ... not totally metal lol
16. Only selling this lovely guitar amp that I bought new a couple of years ago as I have gas for a warmoth gecko neck & have no funds, so something's gotta give & this amp hardly gets used ... never gigged, only home practice .. Traynor Darkhorse is made in Canada (Traynor have been making amps for a long time) 2w / 15w switch (used 15w for bass thru bass cab for practice) .. amp speaker out 1x8 Ohm / 1x16 Ohm / 2x16 Ohm. Comes with a nice carry case & will post in its original box. £220 posted I built a lovely cab for this, open or closed back, stained/distressed/tru-oiled ply, neutrik combi speakon/jack, brand new (still needs breaking in) 1x10 celestion g10 40n (16 Ohm) .. £100 posted At the bottom are some specs / details / reviews of the Traynor .... more pics via email I also built a similar 1x10 ported bass cab that I've also paired with this amp on 15w mode for home practice. Neutrik speakon & 1/4" jack inputs, 8 Ohm woofer but unsure what brand, thought it was Eminence tho has waterproof type coating on cone, however I've tested this little cab with a powerful amp & it really surprised me how well it performed .. £70 Trades ... gecko neck (long shot) / GK MB500/800 or possibly other small lightweight power amp http://traynoramps.c.../product/dh15h/ http://www.vintagegu...arkhorse-dh15h/ http://www.guitarwor...horse-dh15h-amp
17. I usually leave the soldering to a luthier in Leeds .. Fraser Callum he's great & very reasonable prices. I have done some soldering but depends on how expensive the bass is lol. I wont be doing it for a while tho as I've a limited budget & other things have priority ...
18. I also replaced the pups with my favourite .. Nordstrand Big Singles
19. I had an Artec EXP installed in my ABZ5 replacing the tone pot, works surprisingly well considering they cost about £20. One way boosts mids but I can't say I like that very much but the other way it boosts treble/bass & I do quite like that setting (tho does add a little hiss on full). Pull up for passive & you bypass the active circuit, also a nice feature is passive mode still works when you take the 9v battery out I've always preferred passive basses but since putting this in I've decided I'm gonna upgrade & put a John East BTB-01 in as I feel my ABZ deserves a higher quality tone circuit. I have no experience with this one but East preamps come highly regarded. Hope this helps ...
20. Nice one ..... Post some clips when you can I'd really like to hear this biamp setup. I assume you're running the TM dirty on higher freqs ? So what's the setup ? From bass to amps ... and what sort of sound are you after ?
21.
The lack of interest is disturbing, are people broke, not interested, priced to high? These delays used to sell like hot cakes
I'm after a delay ... but money is tight (I have a £50 a month budget), I need 9vdc not 12, Thomann sell Nova new £140. I've also some decent gear up for sale & I think 'nicely' priced but also a lack of interest .. so unless they sell (trade) I'm having to save or hope for a bargain ... Bad time for sellers ... Good time for buyers (if you've got money)
