1. What dad says. As I wrote in a post I deleted, I long contemplated selling at item in-cost, but taking money for my time and gear rent. Decided against it mostly because customers want fantastic local service at Internet prices, and won't be willing to pay directly for my time. This is slightly funny though, as they are willing to pay for my teaching, in which case they do pay for my time, and this too is about using my time on taking part in my knowledge. So I guess it's mostly about what one is used to. I also think new ways of doing business as a specialist shop are forcing their way into the market. In the long run I think there's no way good shops will continue to accept being abused by cynical customers in the described fashion.
2. Yeah, I liked the dialing on the MAG 300 evo II. One has to be willing to dial, as small turns don't give lots of change, but it's quite versatile altogether. I also liked its compressor (used with care), and only found the sub-octave to be very slow. The much criticised VU-meter worked a treat on my MAG, but seems like a gimmick on the Little Bastard. All in all, from my perspective there are many reasons to go for Ashdown.
3. I don't have the overview or experience of others, but Ashdown have been great as to service, and their LB cabs are much more than lazy, wooly, old skool, as they proved when connected to a Genz GBE. Transient willing, open and airy, as far as I could understand. Some of their products tend to get a beating, I think, like the MAG cabs and that programmable "digital" amp, but certainly not all. The ABM900, the MiBass series, the CL cabs, the CTMs and many other boxes seem lauded to me. Though I'm happy I sold my MAG300 410 combo (most probably because of the speakers rather than the amp), I do love the Little Bastard, the LB cabs and the MiBass amp, though they haven't been used long enough for me to say anything about reliability.
4.
Still using the 9.0 am trying to get hold of another rack adapter to put the 9.2 in as I only want it as a back up they are the same size so ether one will fit but as the 9.2 is not in a rack I can use it for small gigs with the 2x10 cab
Thanks!
5. Congrats! Your write-up was certainly inspiring. Though sadly it may mean BC loses its grumpy, negative, no-fun discreet now, and gets a boring happy one in return. I'm not sure I like Burman that much anymore. What's this input bridging about? Does it mean that each of them inputs only can supply a limited current to the pre? I'd always assumed that a gain knob wide open meant virtually 0 Ohm, but I must be wrong then? Or are there step ups in the mixer? Anyway: have fun with it.
6. Yup. Sounds like that is the core indeed.
7. Hey Adam, Welcome, man! That was a nice read too.
I much prefer UK where possible
We all do. The US'ers amongst us do. The Marklar from Marklar do.
Blew the guitarist out the door! 8. Can we talk gear already, fer cryin' out loud? Seeing as that people welcome you despite your having been here for ages, allow me to join in a resounding Welcome! Enjoy the future of BC! best, bert

10.
Yeah, sorry to go OT. That's interesting, I might have to checkout the website.
Nah. What fun would we have without veering out into OT? Bu' I don't think you'll find it on the website, unless you're better at reading between the lines than I am. I simply asked Marc for the cab that would faithfully reproduce every little detail in technique change and buckle rash, and he confidently stated I needed the EXT.
11.
measuring again it's going to be slightly too big for the cupboard, so no point in spending money.
Sorry mate, but I really hate this type of negativistic fatalism. Just saw off the sides! Plus the back if you need to! For once, the wife is positive, fer cryin' out loud!
12. OT really, as this was about the 210, but I pondered that same thing with both 112MNT and 212MNT being rated 600W. Don't know the answer, but do know that Marc Vanderkley stated very clearly that between the 112EXT and 112MNT, the EXT is the more detailed cab that will most faithfully reproduce minute changes in the signal. Of course that still doesn't tell how the 212MNT is in comparance. BTW, I have decided on two 112EXTs because of Marc's statement.
13. Sorry mate, Antone just went home. But I'll be seeing him later this evening, and will let him know. (couldn't resist)
14. I seem to remember that the Cubes have been through a less good period - maybe during the nineties. If so, this might explain that.
15. Of course! Get yer arse over to the Gear section, 'n' everybawdy will talk gear wid ya.
16. Nice tower of doom, Lou. Does this mean you're using both heads, or that you need a rack adapter before being able to exchange the 9.0 with the 9.2? Are the rack adapters different then, or?
17. Great! Now, as it happens, I have this 2,000 W amp for sale that fits the VS112 perfectly! (Only kidding!) Good luck with the project!
18. It was already said above, but in different wording: The volume knob decides how much noise (Watt) the amp puts out. With the exception of extreme cases, you can easily connect a 2,000 W amp to a VS112, at the cost of having to be careful with the volume knob. Also, because of the inner workings of speaker elements, it is not so that 2,000 W will move the speaker cone 10 times as much as 200 W - far from it. There's physical laws there that I don't remember, but maybe someone can chime in there. I seem to remember that logarithmic scales are oncorporated here - not sure though. It's a different theme altogether really, but in similar fashion 2,000 W will give noise that sounds only twice as loud to the human ear as the noise put out by 200 W. So, using a 2,000 W amp mostly means you have to be careful with turning the volume knob. In some cases it would mean you can hardly move it.
19.
Does anyone out there have selling dilemmas? Any thoughts about downsizing and not downsizing?
Yup on the selling dilemmas, and I've had similar thoughts as you yourself. Finally found out that I'm definitely keeping the stuff that will be hardest to replace later, as in the limited editions and the most expensive ones. Not that I don't see that another bass can be just as rewarding, but just because I know myself to have a tendency to never forget that unique thing - a weakness that I plan on not shoving aside. Your mileage may vary. As to downsizing, I'd like to only do it for specific reasons. A vague notion of "probably best", or "maybe I should" or "I do have many basses, don't I?" seems like a weak basis to me, whilst "the money can be used better" seems more to the point to me personally.

Hi!

Hey Amitron, Welcome! I hope you'll thrive on BC. As to a Jazz, I think it's best to head over to the Gear section and have a look there, as this here section tends to be about saying hello. That said, the Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz is generally regarded as an awesome piece of kit, and probably clearly cheaper than a Mex one. Enjoy! bert
21. Yup. I'd gladly pay for that - in the case of instrument shops that is, plus maybe some other types of shops. That said, it would also mean that I'd get even stricter about choosing what shops to visit. I side with the hard working, good shops, and feel their despair. Wasn't it written on here about the German show owner who started charging 25 Euros for his professional advice?
22. Another possible answer might be that the music tends to have a certain "plodding" capacity. It's not as if the music is sensational in any way, It's what made me not buy any album at the time, and now checking my later bought copy of Billion Dollar Babies because of this thread, I still feel that. Mind ya, I can like plodding music, and did buy AC stuff eventually. Recognise something here?
23. Done! (did it three times though)
24. I'd say it's absolutely worth a new thread. Great theme, and can be discussed from many angles. Please do make that thread. (I had written an answer, but have deleted it, and will wait and see.)
25. From my limited experience, you can expect the Cube to sound slightly more compressed and in-yer-face, which might suit your style. However, the Genz is regarded as a fantastic combo, and it is dirt cheap right now. It will probably sound airier, roomier, and more detailed. Add a pedal for noise. From my impression, I'd go for the Genz plus a pedal without even thinking twice. They're less than 300 quid these days.
