2. Hello everyone, Sold my old MIJ Fresher jazz bass to David. Brilliant communication and easy transaction with instant payment via paypal. He sent a courier to my workplace for collection and the bass shipped from Bristol (U.K) to the Czech Republic in four days. Cheers Neil
3. BUMP : lots of international interest but no U.K offers as yet, would prefer not to have to ship overseas.
4. Hi there, Yes good topic,my viewpoints have been covered here by others but another point I'd like to make is in my experience instruments don't generally get that tatty quickly..? I had a 94 MIJ Jazz for over 12 years and was my only gigging/rehearsing bass. I played pretty regularly and gigged lots with it , but when I sold it two years ago it was still pretty great condition-hardly a relic... just reasonably used condition. I do look after my instruments and don't carry them round in bin liners (like I have seen!! ) but I don't know how you get that kind of wear on an instrument. You must have to literally gig daily (and who can confess to that) with sandpaper for shirts and aspestos for fingers ...dunno maybe I'm just light with bass ( but don't think so) - even my highway one with the light nitro covering isn't showing much wear after 4 years and I use that weekly...? Cheers Neil
5. SOLD SOLD SOLD Hi Everyone. For sale 1978 (ish) Fresher Made in Japan Jazz bass, A nice bit of Jap (not so) Crap history Decided to reluctantly sell this bass, as I'm just not using it, and I favour lighter P-basses these days. I bought this bass about 3-4 years ago with dead pickups, noisy pots, a worn nut and no pick guard. I've done a bit of research on Fresher instruments, which is favourable and the decal design on this one is similar to a 1978 bass I found , so I'm suggesting its that’s period (but can be corrected!).I've never seen another Fresher on BC or U.K eBay, only a couple on US eBay and also the Japanese guitar sites. http://www.wutzdog-guitars.de/inventory/in...r-straighter-1/ Condition - The bass is solid (Ash/ sen Ash?) and all works well, it’s a real good player. - It's pretty good condition for a 30+ yr old instrument, has proper mojo. -The bass is well used- but there is plenty of fret life left , in a places the lacquer has worn to the block markers. - Its a 30+ year old bass, so does have dings and knocks, but nothing really major. There is a small crack on the headstock E machine head, plus one on the neck pocket, these seem very stable and from some time ago. -It is a heavy instrument, being solid ash-I can weight ayt some point. Parts/repairs -Someone had already fitted some Gotoh tuners (these seem to be the same footprint of the original tuners- I removed one to check) and a solid Bad**s style bridge which does a good job. -Tom Waghorn (Waghorn guitars) in Bristol installed me a new brass nut checked the set up/intonation which is real good ( will supply receipt). -I replaced the dead pickups with some potted jazz pickups (supplied by Terry aka ‘Loud and Clear’ from Basschat) which do a good job. I also screened the cavities and put in new Japanese pots, even the original jack sockets says Japan! -The scratch plate is an old thing I had lying around. It only lines up with screw holes in a few places and has rough pickup cutout (I recommend a new scratchplate) -though it’s never bothered me. I’ll supply some new screws, I never got round to sourcing a new one. There are also two screws/holes where a bridge cover was. - It's got some recent 40, 60, 80,100 Ernie ball slinky which have lost some zing but work fine. - Supplied with original hard case, which is tidy and complete. Email any queries, cheers Neil £180 + Postage (£15-£20 I guess) or collection from Bristol

8. Hi There are a few JapCrap resident experts on the site, you may want to move the thread to the general bass discussion- for more response-It's a bit buried here. Cheers Neil
9. Hi there, Nice bass The bridge is a classic fender type (or copy of) , found on some '57/'62 models, I also have a similar one on my P-bass http://angela.com/vintagebassbridge.aspx Cheers Neil
10. Hi, Thanks for all the responses I guess I'm attracted to simple no-nonsence design. A contoured body (54 model) and the single coil pickup, maybe strung with flats? would be my choice. I'm a bit cautious of the simple dual string bridge on the models -anyone have experience of these? Personally I'd like something more like a Gotoh 201 with individual string adjustment, but I guess its a classic design from 50 years ago and if it works and all that.... The Warmouth site is amazing, so much choice-just trying to work out how much it would all cost in parts- I'm guessing around £500, I like the simple natural ash bodies, but I guess they need some kind of finish? unless oiling would be sufficient. It's a minefield...
11. Hi Everyone, I've been really gassing recently for a 51/54 style P bass. There doesn't seem to be many manufactures doing copies of these only the Fender ones? I really like the MIJ reissues but they are pretty expensive (when you can find them) ~£699 and the Sting signature model isn't very appealing with his moniker on the fret board. I had the Squire Vintage modified (essentially telecaster) P bass with the slab body and hum-bucker which I liked, but are there any alternatives people are aware of with the single coil PUP?? I've take some nice pictures for Talk bass of the '51, 54 and '57 bass showing the body contours which just make you dribble..... Any info would be great. Cheers Neil
12. Hi, I replaced my stock pickups from my 2006 highway one Pbass with some Schaller pickups. They are ofter overlooked :- The Schaller (PB6)240 Alnico( 14K Ohms) have 6mm pole pieces like the SD 1/4lb, bit hotter than stock pick ups but smooth tone. They also do a (PBX) 236 ceramic (11K Ohms) which is a more traditional type. I used the (PB6) 240 in mine bass and I'm very happy with the tone, they are harder to find in the U.K-but ofter cheaper than the alternatives. Cheers Neil

15. Hi there, I may be interested in this if you do come with a price? I need a powered mixer for some pub gigs we've got planned. Give me a shout when you decide on a price and I'll see if it's in my budget. Cheers Neil
16. Hi There, I'd look out for a Japanese bass. There are often lots of used models around the £300 mark. You can pick up an old Ibanez bass such as a "blazer" or "roadstar" or loads of other manufacturers did P-bass clones. Check out the JapCrap thread in the Ebay section on basschat. I bought an early 80's Japanese Tokai in (yellowed) olympic white, best £220 I've ever spent, is now my main bass. There is lots of Japanese stuff out there, search on here or "MIJ" ,"CIJ" or "Japanese bass" on ebay. You can't go far wrong, there are several JapCap resident experts on basschat, who can advise better than me. Do you really want a brand new bass? Don't think I'd ever buy a new instrument ever again (unless some treated me!) I have not experience of VM squires, though I do love the fiesta red one. Cheers Neil
