  1. Great donner and chips from Peter Pans and a great gig at Wangies pretty much next door to each other in the parish of Eccles has restored order to the universe.

A dead light and a speaker handle needing repair couldn't dampen our spirits with not having to go to McDonalds for apres gig feasting.

  2. Another kebab fail. The situation is now at crisis point and threatening the very existence of the band.

Despite not having our inoculations and and having no pet passport for our guitarist we ventured to the

disputed border town of Earby in either Lancashire or Yorkshire, no one seems to know.

We got a fifty quid bonus and free beer and had a good night but it was sullied by the towns total lack of kebabery.

Another dash to a 24 hour Maccies saved us from a fate worse than a fate worse than death but this is now two

fails on the bounce and begs the question "what's the point of being in a band ? "

It's a thankless task sometimes Les, but as we all know, this business called show is a calling, not a job.

I actually went home on Friday night after a late finish because my local chippy/kebabery was already closed and I really didn't want to run the gauntlet of Woking town centre on a weekend - it's a zoo!

Just keep telling yourself... it's only a blip. Things WILL get better.

Nice find. Now, if it had been a half crown, you would have been inundated...

  4. Another kebab procurement fail in Failsworth. New gig for us so nothing to go on.

Couldn't find any where despite taking a couple of detours down some likely looking main roads.

The day was saved by the 24 hour McDonalds on the east lancs road that usually pulls us out of

the mire when we're in the kebabless wastelands of Lowton Cheshire.

Went for the big tasty meal and it was indeed big, and it was indeed tasty.

This kind of apocalyptic post gig hunt  is getting worryingly regular.

  5. It's back. The donner calzone. What a beast of a feast.

Have to say this may be my favorite apres gig snackette but you can't get it everywhere.

This one courtesy of the  ever splendid Night Bar in Horwich.

  6. Blizzard fueled dash from the kebabless wasteland of Lowton 2 miles up the road in that there Cheshire to a hearty kebab from a stalwart of the guide, Mediterranean Pizza in the centre of the known universe. Great gig at a regular haunt too but felt a bit lacklustre after last weeks amazing reception of the new show.

Maybe cos' we're back in our comfort zone and didn't have the edge that something new brings to a band. Oh well, kebab was ace and that's what counts.

  7. Failed to find a kebab in Liverpool.

unbelievably there just wasn't one between the venue and the motorway. Had my girlfriend with me and her 16 year old daughter who thinks kebabbing sounds the best thing about being in a band and had been looking forward to hers all night.

The day was saved by the ever excellent Mediterranean Pizza back home in the centre of the known universe, though she couldn't finish it.

Bit of an eye opener for the pair of them leaving the house at 5.30 and getting home at 2am, an insight on the work and time involved that goes into a gig.

New Peaky Blinders theme show was very well received so all in all a top night.

  8. Not only are D'addario makers of my favourite string but they win extra kudos from me for having environmentally responsible packaging. These things are important to me.

  9. Excellent start to the kebabing weekend, got some pussie as well.

Very tasty chicken burger meal inc. chips and a drink for less than three and a half earth pounds.

By default as it was the first takeaway we came across trying to escape Bolton, lost as we always are trying to get out of Bolton

as they were close to closing and it was all they had left. Would defo go for this again.

This little fella was in the quiet bar round the corner on his stool as he usually is keeping an eye on proceedings.

A chicken burger?? It's not really a kebab, is it? Well, is it?? C-, must do better. (Killer moggie removing tip of bass player's chicken flavoured finger not pictured.)

Great to hear he's gigging again. I hope he was wearing plugs or in-ears... he suffers from severe tinnitus IIRC.

  11. A return to normality for the weekly kebab shenanigans.  Excellent ham and pineapple pizza from Delicious Pizza of Burnley.

The singer assures me I missed a trick by not going for the kebab but he is obviously not to be trusted after his betrayal the other week and I suspect he was just trying to make me regret my choice.

No naked women or dancing on top of the trailer either, just another normal good night in a good venue with a good crowd and the bar staff dressing up and entering in to the spirit, and our two new songs were well received. Bonus

All's well on the kebab trail.

  12. Is it possible to have too many basses? Asking for a friend...

  13. Much better kebabing last night. Super donner and chips from Pizza Corner in Farnworth, only the bands second visit but won't be the last.

An extra 50 quid at the end of the night, booked for a gay wedding next April, booked for new years eve and another words fail me moment, with video.

Regular readers will remember the girls in their outfits on top of the trailer from their previous pub 500 yards up the road.

Thanks for that Les - I'm looking at the G30, G50 and G70 as we speak! The G10 is basic, only 3 channels, and a little cheap and cheerful, to be honest. You gets what you pays for, after all....

I bought a Line 6 G10 a few months ago, and I've had issues with it dropping out on gigs. I updated the firmware yesterday though, so we'll see how it goes. I did also read that you're meant to plug the transmitter into the dock for 10-20 seconds immediately prior to using it so it can scan for free channels. I probably only do that at soundcheck, before the punters and all their mobile phones taint the airwaves, so it may be user error!

  17. Slightly better result for the second of the years Kebab hunting weekends.  Singer betrayed me by saying his missus had got him fish and chips at home so wouldn't be dining.

No probs, huge McDonalds lit up like a space ship 10 yards in front of the new to us but local gig. Shut as a shut thing when I got there. :|

Cue mad dash back to the centre of the known universe and a reliable donner kebab from the ever excellent Tasty Bite.

Another new venue tonight in Kearsley so hoping for a result and no band mate betrayal.

Exactly. While she's out, build an exact replica of Scott's final camp in the living room. See if she gets the joke.

  20. Absolute inauspicious start to this years Kebab hunt. Iffy gig, falling into the gear punters, arguing with p*iss ed's, no kebab and a 11.30am

photo shot this morning in the snow.

Please don't let this be how my gigging year is going to pan out.  :|

  22. @Les

Hoping you are well.  Missing the Kebablog.

I'm making do but it's not nearly as satisfying reading about quinoa flatbread butties served with avocado fries as it is hearing of the apres gig foodie scene in the North Midlands.

    Please come back?

  23. Happy New Year, bass players. What's your major bass playing plan for 2018?

Mine is to get back to gigging every weekend and gear-wise maybe acquire a nice 12-string.

Many years ago (late 70’s) I bought a R**********r stereo for not a lot of money (£220 IIRC) and ran the R***-0-Sound output with the bridge pickup through a Hiwatt 100 head and matching 4x12, and the neck pickup through a Marshall 100 and matching 4x12. The R** was fitted with Superwound strings (the ones  with the exposed core at the bridge saddle, and ball-ends you fitted yourself). It sounded like a grand piano! A major b*ll-ache to transport in a Citroen Dyane, though. I abandoned the idea (and the R**) after only a handful of gigs...

  24. The conclusion of the 2017 BC kebab guide was an awesome 1/4 pound cheese burger and chips from the stunningly consistent Peter pans of Eccles.

After a last gig of the year at the fabulous Wangies, one of the bands favorites, made even awesomer by everyone getting a 70 quid xmas bonus cos' the kitty's looking healthy.

Only moderate downer was that I meant to order the half pounder but forgot.

  25. Penultimate 2017 kebab hunt for the Troubadours tonight found us at the ever splendid Denton kebabs, a regular high scorer in the guide.

Has to be said although it's all quality it seems to be the sauce(s) they have that's the icing on their cake so to speak..
