For sale is my Enfield Lionheart Standard 5-string bass in pearl black with an ebony fingerboard. It's only a few months old, and as you'd expect, in excellent condition. The only blemish I can find is a faint mark down the beveled edge of the scratch plate under the strings. It's just had a professional setup, and plays like a dream. I have a new bass on the way to me, so sadly this has to go. Along with the amazing Sims Super Quad pickups (there's lots of stuff about these on YouTube) it has a 3-band Glockenklang preamp, and weighs in at only 3.9kg. 34" scale and 18mm spacing at the bridge, adjustable. Comes complete with an as-new Hiscox Liteflite case. NOW SOLD

For sale is my Ibanez ATK805 Premium bass. I only bought it a couple of months ago from Dave Swift, who imported it himself from the States, and although it's a lovely (and very rare) bass, I have my eye on something else, so sadly it has to go! The build quality is superb for such a reasonably priced bass, and it has a great range of MM/P/J tones from the MM/J-style pickup combination, 3-way coil tap switch on the MM-style pickup, and 3-band preamp. It's really comfy to play, and weighs only 4.1kg on my digital bathroom scales, so certainly no heavyweight, and balances really well on a strap or on the knee. Bridge keyhole string anchors or through-body stringing, 34" scale, 18mm string spacing at the bridge. It's in very good overall condition, with just a couple of dings on the body and the neck shown in the pictures, and if I was to be picky, in a certain light you can see a little shininess on the wooden scratchplate below the strings. Sale includes the Warwick Rockcase shown in the pictures. Note that the Schaller straplock buttons shown in the pics have now been replaced with standard chrome buttons. I have a brand new bass on the way to me, so sadly this has to go. Collection is preferred from near Woking, Surrey. NOW SOLD

For sale is my Carvin SB5000 J-bass, in a cream finish, with a maple neck and a birdseye maple fingerboard. It has a really powerful 18v preamp with three band EQ and mid sweep (does the Marcus Miller thing very well). 34" scale, 18.5mm string spacing at the bridge, weighs 4.3kg on my digital bathroom scales, bridge or through body stringing. The fingerboard has darkened nicely with age, but the frets are still in great shape. There are a few small dings shown in the pictures, but nothing bad. Sometime in the past a previous owner fitted a Marcus Miller-style chrome cover over the neck pickup, which is included, hence the screw holes in the scratchplate. Note that the Schaller straplock buttons shown in the pics have since been replaced with standard chrome buttons. Comes complete with a Carvin-badged G&G lined hardcase. I have a brand new bass on the way to me, so sadly this has to go. Collection from near Woking preferred, but I can post for another £25 within the UK. Sorry, but I'm not looking for any trades. NOW SOLD.

Landlord can "get bands for free", oh no.

That's so true - with so many things vying for people's attention these days, music comes pretty far down the list. Are we to be the last hurrah of 'live' music? -

It's surely just part and parcel of the proliferation of satellite TV and internet-based entertainment - along with the huge increase in viewing and listening choice, comes the user's expectation of an entitlement to certainty. There's such a huge quantity of available content out there that Joe and Agnes Average expect to be able to see and hear what they will enjoy with minimal risk, money and effort. Less and less people are willing to take a chance on something that's untried and untested. Add to that a generation that's grown up viewing music as a virtually free commodity that they can access on any device whenever they want, and you've got the perfect conditions for the slow death of original live music, and an increasingly difficult environment for every other kind. I'm in the middle of a theatre tour with a soul/funk band who had a number of chart hits in the 70's. We're sharing the bill with another similar act, and most of the gigs so far have been sell-outs. Even last night, on a rainy Mother's Day evening in the midlands, it was 70-80% full. It's a good show, but the main factor that's bringing in the punters is they know what they're going to get. Minimal risk. Even so, the promoter's twitchy about whether he's turning a good enough profit overall, and has cut costs to the bone, so there's no way he's going to take a risk on something that isn't a dead cert to put bums on seats. The guy's been doing it for years, so put someone less experienced in your local pub/club/venue, and you've got a recipe for disaster. Add in the current economic uncertainty, and the big 'name' bands (who make most of their money from touring now) soaking up a big chunk of the disposable income of the remaining gig-going public, and it's no wonder audiences are thin on the ground further down the food chain. It's rather depressing, but I've no idea what the answer is, or if there even is one. -
You could try Status Hotwires (http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html) As something of a veteran of things headless, I didn't care for them, but I know plenty of people do.

For sale is my TC Electronic BH800 amp, a fantastic bit of kit. Light, exceptionally powerful, with dual Toneprint capability so you can load of a stack of free effects via an app on your smartphone. It's also got a headphone out, aux in, built-in tuner, you name it, it's got it. Great tonal flexibility, and power in spades. It comes complete with a TC Helicon Switch-3, allowing switching between Toneprint effects, and amp muting. The pedal box is a bit battered from being in my leads bag, but I've hardly used the pedal, so it's in very good condition. The best new price I can find for the amp is £449, the pedal £63, and the bag about £25, so that's a total of £537 worth of gear. Amp specs are here: https://www.tcelectronic.com/Categories/Tcelectronic/Bass/Head-Amplifiers/BH800/p/P0CIQ Also included is a Gator amp bag, a perfect fit for the head. Note that the amp has a dink on the top right corner of the aluminum front fascia - this is reflected in the price. The damage is purely cosmetic, and has no effect on the amp's performance. Sorry, but I'm not looking for any trades. NOW SOLD

Things not to do in a music shop........
lowregisterhead replied to T-Bay's topic in General Discussion
Oh, come on - that's half the fun! At least that way you can find out if the staff really know anything. If they do, you can have an interesting conversation, if not, they'll definitely leave you alone... -

I usually start by being highly specific about the precise combination of amp and cab(s) that I want to play the bass of my choice through. I then take the cables off the guy and wire it up myself, all the while pointing out why I've chosen this specific setup, and the failings of the other gear they have in stock, and why I won't use any of it. After that, staff and punters alike usually f-off and leave me in peace to play. -
For sale is my ACG Finn headless. I've listed this before, but it's recently undergone a bit of a re-vamp. It has an interesting past, in as much as the body and neck were made by Alan for a friend, and weren't intended to end up on the open market, hence the non-standard pickup configuration. The body and neck are Alan's, but it appears that the hardware and electronics have been added, and altered, by the original and subsequent owners. When I got it, it had some nasty pickups in it and didn't sound great, but after a bit of tweaking and TLC, it's turned out to be a great bass. It's now fitted with a pair of Hanson pickups (out of my Lakland DJ5) which I sent to Bare Knuckle and had re-wound, plus a John East Uni Pre, and sounds very good indeed! It has a Black Limba body with some lovely striping and a trans purple finish, routed for pickups with lugs, as opposed to the usual ACG pickups, and a maple asymmetric neck with a birdeseye maple fingerboard. It's 35" scale (although you wouldn't know it - it feels really compact) 46mm wide at the zero fret, 55mm at the 12th fret, and 18mm spacing at the bridge (adjustable). It weights 4.1kg on my digital bathroom scales, and sits really well on the knee or on a strap. Along with the Uni-Pre is an East low battery indicator board and LED. The body also has two additional micro switch positions, currently unused. There are a few marks and scratches here and there, but nothing of any great significance. There are no issues with the neck, the frets are all in good order, and it plays beautifully, with a powerful sound, loads of sustain and clarity, and huge tonal variety from the Uni-Pre. The only reason I'm selling it is that I don't get on with the asymmetric neck - all my other basses have standard neck profiles and just suit me more. You're welcome to come and try it out in person - I'm based just off the A3 between Woking and Guildford, close to junction 10 of the M25. Sorry, but I'm not looking for any trades. NOW SOLD

Jokes aside, well done if you've landing the gig, acidbass. I've done a few residencies, not specifically in a ski resort, but the same principles will apply. Make sure you know what's included (accomodation, meals, drinks etc) and what storage/security is available for gear - if the venue is a bar and open all day, you don't want your stuff lying around unprotected. Check if it needs to be moved - if they have parties/other bands/ DJs etc., and if so, when. If equipment of any kind is being supplied by the venue, get a detailed list so you know exactly what you're going to be expected to work with. If it's dubious or incomplete, bring what you need, but be prepared for it to be knocked about or worse. Leave your expensive or treasured equipment at home - something usually comes to grief at some point. Also, do your sums regarding what you're being paid versus the actual prices onsite if you're going to have to cough up for anything, even occasional meals and drinks. Resorts are usually hideously expensive. Oh yeah, and have a great time!

Err... no.

No product is perfect - there will always be the odd horror story. Although it's truly impressive how much air BF cabs can shift for their size and weight, the horn on my Big Twin T blew on the second gig. I ended up returning it. I was probably just unlucky, as was Ed Friedland in this instance.

I just searched for how to delete/hide some of my posts (just to tidy up a few bumps on a lengthening for sale thread) and found the topic regarding the Option button. Then I found this thread. Although I'm not a prolific poster, I never noticed the ability to be able to do it before creating a problem. I realise I can now bump without posting, but what about previous indiscretions??
