Personally, I prefer Herbie Hancock's 'Rockit' - a mere 35 years ago! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHhD4PD75zY It'll be on a TV ad soon enough. It has got us talking, though.
well, you could do worse than having a try yourself... the Mesa D800 (or better the D800+!) is a great amp, and very versatile. Try one if you can, I think you might change your mind about the 'too rock' vibe! I prefer the D800+ because the built-in adjustable HPF is a great addition and worth the extra cost alone. I play mostly ska and funk and it works very well for both styles.
Thanks for the recommendation, but too late I'm afraid - I bought an Eich T1000. It's very nice!

For sale is my MarkBass Nano Mark 300, a fabulous micro amp that still packs a serious punch! I've had it for a year or so as a backup/spare, and only used it very occasionally, so it's probably only had two or three hours playing time in total. Boxed, with unopened instructions and warranty card. There are a few very small scratches on the top and front panel from me rather stupidly putting it in my leads bag. This is reflected in the price, and otherwise it's in great condition. Andertons currently sell these for £332. Price includes shipping within the UK, or your welcome to come and try it out - I'm near junction 10 of the M25, postcode GU23. NOW SOLD PENDING PAYMENT

Up for sale is my EBS TD650 head. These things are wonderful - beautiful clarity, masses of headroom, really flexible EQ, valve & solid state preamp, goes down to a 2 ohm load, and, of course... it goes up to 11! Seriously, look at the pictures. The Swedes do have a sense of humour. Not mad about selling, but I went over to a lightweight Class D setup about a year ago, and it's been sitting in the corner since, so it should go somewhere it's going to be used, loved and appreciated. Never been out of its SKB case, excellent condition, full working order. NOW SOLD
The Carvin BX700 amp I have goes down to drive a 2 Ohm load. This is selected with a switch on the back of the amp from 4 Ohm loads. It is lightweight with 2 EQ sections (switchable) and a valve (switchable) in the pre-amp stage. I have mine for sale here on Basschat: Carvin BX700 Amp
Thanks, I'd already seen that listing, and although it would probably do the job, I'm looking for something a little more high-end. I'm either just very picky, or a terrible amp snob - you can decide! The truth is I know nothing about Carvin gear.
No problem! I've reviewed the B|Amp, but I haven't had my hands on the Forté yet which promises to be very good too. Here's some bloke who seems to like it a lot:
Yeah, watched it this morning - very interesting!
I'm not sure what your budget is, but the Bergantino B|Amp is stunning. It's stable down to 2 Ohms and just sounds superb! There's also a cheaper option, the Bergantino Forte that I haven't had the chance to try but it's essentially a cut down version of the B|Amp but the signal path components are all the same.
Looks very nice Dood, thanks for the recommendation! I was wondering if I could somehow find the readies for a Thunderfunk TFB800-B2, but with duty and tax, it's about 2 grand! The B|Amp looks great though. I will investigate further.
I'd be interested in finding out more about this cable. I have and EBS 110 250watts at 8ohms and a 115 300watt at 4ohms with an Ampeg PF800 head 400watts at 8ohms or 800watts at 4ohms minimim load. Over the last few years I've slowly slimmed what was once a vast rig down to two EBS 210's (4 ohms each) coupled with a GK MB800 Fusion head, which I like a lot. The only downside is I've had to build a series speakon adapter to bring the impedance of the two cabs up to 8 ohms, as the GK won't run into 2 ohms. I'm looking into what the options are for a lightweight, preferably rack-mountable head of 500 watts + capable of 2 ohms (or two x 4 ohms) to take its place. So far I've found Genz Benz, TecAmp, and Thunderfunk. I haven't tried any of them yet, but what other choices are there out there? Thanks in advance for any and all input!
Also, given these circumstances are set in the era of Life On Mars? and well prior to the digital music revolution, £50 for a pub gig must have been a fairly good earner, even if it was in London. There are bands knocking about now who don't get themselves much more than that!
It was in the late 80's as I understand it, so not great money...
I'm with Big Red on this. For me, I want to be as good as I can be when I'm depping, irrespective of the reward. That does not include not making time to do my homework. If he was that busy, he shouldn't have accepted the gig. Combined with the flippancy of the response when challenged, it does not do the person in question any favours IMHO.
I see what you're saying, but if you're a pro musician trying to make a living, and you get offered a low paying dep, you'll take it because it might make the difference to whether you can make the rent that week. I've been there in the (thankfully) distant past, having to sell my bass to keep a roof over my head. Whilst I agree with you that considerations of quality of service shouldn't be set aside if a gig doesn't pay much, there has to be a balance. Regardless of whether his preparation should be considered adequate or not, we don't really know how it went on the night, and as TimR said, how would your respond if you'd done a perfectly good job, yet your playing was still picked apart? I found out long ago that it's impossible to manage everyone's expectations, having been at the sharp end of that problem a few times. On one occasion I was asked to dep in an originals band on a gig in Dudley - JB's, for those of us who remember that lovely venue! I was living in South London, the band were from East London, and I had to meet them in North London to get a lift to the gig. There was an hour of originals to learn, but was young, foolish yet eager to please, so I only asked for £50. I was somewhat dismayed when on being picked up, they tried to negotiate me down from that price! Needless to say, I didn't budge. The band leader hardly spoke to me the whole night. There's nowt as queer as folk.
