Not Doom.
+1 its not doom if the load in doesn't require you to get to gigs 3 hours before soundcheck
Hmm, well, tough to know then. I still think the above option of SS is going to be one of your best bets, but if you really want the tube option then something designed around a valve like this might be more practical -- although still expensive and heavy. no ideas where you'll find a design, or an amp, though.
haha i'm tempted now i've been looking a for a valve that puts out that kind of wattage, the only problem is that the transformers would have to be massive and thus its going to be a 3man lift or something!

It was a very expensive piece of kit in its day and now very rare. HELP!!!!
hi i could have a look at it if you wanted, whats up with it? -
+1. Mics are a necessity to capture the tone of the amp/speaker, but that's all above 100Hz. Below that a DI gets the signal without the stage mud. Better FOH engineers will high pass the mic channel as high as even 300 Hz, using the DI below that. The best will high pass the DI at 60-80 Hz, so that the sound out of the PA is reasonably close to that on stage. The worst will run the DI flat and boost the bejesus out of the low EQ and totally corrupt your sound. You don't need to play a toilet to hear that, even in pro-touring I'd rate only 25% of FOH engineers really good at mixing the bass, and nearly all of them are either bass players themselves or also work as studio engineers. Or both.
+1 i'm sick of people just mixing out the bass on everything, whats the point in that? did anyone listen to the radio one weekend thing where the bass was mixed out on EVERY band
Genius! A power amp in a pedal. Has anyone thought of that before? I mean, for that size
would be mint for overdriving things, although you don't really need THAT much gain ;p quite a few people have done tiny power amps though.

do want the new pog

The sound guy will most likely have his own DI box unfortunatly.
We all have our own opinions! There is always a divide on issues with Orange/Matamp. Mine definitely does not only put out 160W...probably as its brand new and in full working order. Believe me, I spent ages checking on the Orange stuff and making sure it right. After heaps of people on here and TBass went on about how good it is, and the same with the hardcore bands I like, it seemed the choice for me. If Converge/ETID use them, they have to be good. And I know for a fact ETID do not get it given to them as I spoke to their bassist a few months back. There will be a difference in tone...as always. Ive heard bad reviews on Matamp cabs in the past....but I dont take any notice of it until i A/B them. They seem solid, but the Orange 1x15 got rave reviews from Tom B who reviews for Bass Gear Mag (think its this one). He did a 1x15 shootout and the Orange did extremely well. The Orange cabs are made for the Orange head...to me they do an awesome job...slaying a Ampeg 410E/15 easily. Especially with attention to detail and build quality. That, and the awesome customer service Orange gave me, made my choices for me! But...I would love a Matamp as well..!
you'd be suprised how loud 160watts is the head i use atm has 6 el34s putting out 150watts and thats more than enough to drown out any drummer or guitarist with ease
I'd go for it. I went with Orange....but I do like what Matamp does. It will look awesome customised. Those 200W....for me....are Orange/Matamp tube watts....and although you might not think thats loud...its is VERY loud....especially if you like a proper cranked grindy fuzzy bass sound. Pair it with the right cab, tonal bliss. Im a big fan of old school tube amps, and my Orange competely destroys a Ampeg Classic for weight, looks, and tone. Just my opinion! But then again, I bought a tube amp as I wanted tube grind...not lot loads of headroom. Very loud bands like Converge/Every Time I Die use Orange AD200s through 8x10s...and they play decent sized venues.
from my experience matamp and orange are miles apart, the orange cabs i tried were terrible and the AD200 has been recording at only putting out 160watts out of 4Xkt88s (they should do atleast 200) The matamp gt200 is probably one of the best bass heads i've heard though will do from hi fi clean to svt grind to massive doom fuzz. i still don't get what kind of venues you guys get to play where you can crank 200watt heads to full without the sound guy bitching.
1212L. Smaller and same footprint as the cab I already have. The only soundclip I have at the moment is the 'sneaky peek' track on www.myspace.com/maeslostempire. The others weren't recorded through the Schroeder. However, it is a slightly misleading clip. There is actually a clean DI'd signal blended with the Schroeder pumping out full on distortion. So not the best way to judge it perhaps. I don't have any clips of it solo'd. The amp head makes more of a difference on the sound of it than the cab itself anyway.
digging the new tune chris whos doing the backing vocals?
Been listening to 'Bonkers' by Dizzee Rascal. I love the strange sound they used on the bass line. I'm not sure how it's achieved so does anyone out there know?
use a synth ;p and you'd achieve it better by putting a boost infront of the guv'nor just something to drive it into epic saturation
Alot of old valve heads can drive 2 ohms, although it's about as far from your shuttle size and weight wise as is possible to get....
i've not seen many that can do 2 ohms apart from ampeg, it takes some serious iron to go that low any reason why you want to use 3 cabs? wouldn't it be wiser to use 1 or 2 bigger or more effiecent ones?
I've recently started teaching myself to play as some of you may know, and thanks to my slightly clawed attack I've been doing okay without an amp. Now the time has come to get something to plug my Washburn Force-4 into. I won't be buying immediately as it'll take some time to save up but I'm looking to spend around £200-ish and am happy to go second hand to get a good deal. Soundwise I like what I heard out of a Hartke that sykilz had when I bought the bass from him. I know for my price range I won't get something of that size or quality, but something that might eventually extend a little bit beyond plonking around in my bedroom would be good. I'm also interested in learning more about amps and all this jazz in general, anything I can read to get me started? The music I like tends to be heavier stuff like Nadja, Jesu, Boris... etc. So anyone able to help out a complete noob?
+1 on the electric blue amp, your going to want to be looking at pedals if you wanna be making sounds like boris jesu and nadja ;p
Its definitely a possibility - Im assuming that this is the same as the Red Eye Bass Fuzz? i kinda need to know how big it is, and whether it loves active basses or not (very important - i only play actives), oh and whether it runs on regular 9v boss-style adapter. pics please
i normally put them in BB enclosures because it looks cooler but i can put it in a boss sized one, i only use active basses aswell so it was my first concern to make sure it worked with them ;p it works on a regular 9v. yeah its almost the same as the red eye i've changed the design a bit since then though not much though. the clip on www.myspace.com/mammothsoundaudio is with an active bass
wow ill be honest, im not looking for a phaser. but that is one hell of an offer. I'll have to refuse the phasor unfortunately, but i am up for trades. - its not like i spend my money on much else than pedals. Things i could be tempted with either for straight trade or part-x: Delay with a tone cotrol (so that the initial note that i play isnt affected, but the repeats have a low-cut so they dont muddy my low-end) - assuming i get rid of the CC. Bass-friendly distortions/fuzzes - preferably mxr-sized - EHX XO sized (although i have alot of fuzzes and distortions already so this would have to be pretty special, and i may buy back my Green Stache when i get paid) low pass filter pedals/tone controls - the moog does it the best, but i cant justify the size on my board for the amount i use it, although using it with the EXP pedal sounds amazing with my Bass micro synth. - none of my currently used basses actually have tone contols - its all 3-band active eqs, and tbh im not a tweaker. I'd really love to get my Electronix Submarine back and may get OS to build me another. just hit me up with random pedals and i'll see what i think. cheers Theo
hows about one of my jotun fuzzs, i'm getting a batch of mullard transistors which should sound pretty special, in exchange for the moog + cash? i'll do some soundclips of next it week.
Hi, This is going to sound pretty dumb but I've got a cabinet with 2 x 10 inch speakers running at 8ohms and 75 watts a piece. Does this make the cab run at 150 watts total? Also is the ohmage 8? I've bought a new 6 string head with an ohmage selector and don't want to end up blowing the cab/head. Also I have a head that runs ar 10 ohms, could I safely use this with the cabinet mentioned?
the cab will either be 4 or 16 ohms depending on how you wired it and you just want the head to match the ohmage of the cab.
