    This was mine last night, depping with a five-piece in the New Forest. Don’t think I moved a muscle all night… Somewhere in the background is two Barefaced One10s and an Elf. Flea Jazz in front. Thankfully they turned the Olympics off!

    I slammed my left hand index finger in a car door before a gig six years ago. Nothing like as bad, but never got the full feeling back. Hasn’t affected my playing. Good luck Jack!

    Saw Gladys Knight a few weeks ago. A scant hour for £100-plus ticket price (fortunately I had freebies). She is 80, to be fair, but I can only remember attending one shorter gig in my life (Hall and Oates, since you ask).

    All blues standards (ie covers). I try to harmonise but his pitching is erratic. Could be part of the problem! I am tuneful (IMO) but no great character to my voice. Him vv.

    I met Hugh twice, Piers. Coincidentally his Knebworth appearance was 50 years ago yesterday. Headliners over SAHB - who stole the show, i was there - were the Doobie Bros and Allman Bros. And yes, I quizzed him about it to little avail, too! 😁 Lovely man. EDIT: SAHB is the Sensational Alex Harvey Band for those under 60!

    No, just someone who does what he wants (which is, nearly always, sing songs exactly the way he has always done). Anything I’ve added has been, IMO of course, in an effort to progress. 🙄

    So, if you do them how much latitude are you allowed? I have, out of the blue, received an email from our lead singer basically telling me he is ‘happy’ for me to contribute backing vocals to one song, but would prefer me not to contribute to others (unspecified) as he has ‘sung them that way for the past x years’ and presumably doesn’t like what I add. Apart from being incandescent that he didn’t say anything face to face, I wonder whose decision it is - his or the band’s? I have suggested vocal rehearsals but he has never taken me up on it. I know you have no idea of the quality or appropriateness of what I’m singing, but I do several lead vocals in the set so can’t be tuneless. It’s more the principle of the thing I struggle to deal with. Are they his songs or ours?
