Figure out why an individual wants to pay lots of money for something you think is over valued and you'll have your answer. Best thing to do would be to find someone who has recently bought a Wal off Ebay?

Overpriced is very subjective, it follows the heart rather than the mind. You could argue that the case with Wal basses is even more extreme than Fender (given prices 10 years ago) and they don't have the history of Fender. Whereas a bass such as a Alembic Series bass which, it could be argued, has been made with even more care than either doesn't attract anywhere the same interest. I think its all about percieved value at the end of the day innit? I don't think the bottom will fall out of the market suddenly but the "vintage" bass market will continue to grow as models from the 80's join those of the 70's. There are some specific instruments that attract genuine interest and then retailers use any excuse they can find to bump up the price of others to match.

maybe the bongos are different then. I tried a Stingray HS and I was getting different output levels for each position of the pickup switch.

By way of illustration older basses are more settled, their necks have become pre-shaped like a bentwood chair because of the constant tension of the strings and truss rod. Your basses might have necks that have been made from wood of slightly different density and so they exert greater or lesser tension on the strings despite action, neck relief etc. being equal.

I've just come back from Maplins and they're selling rubber mats for sticking on top of car dashboards to stop things sliding around. You could get one or more of those. This is my old PC, normally kept as a back up. It was built by Mesh and is still going strong. Originally I had installed 2 graphics cards, 1Gb RAM, zip drive, CDRW and dvd drive and Soundblaster Live Platinum card. But now its had one graphic card removed. Because with so much stuff installed the poor thing couldn't cope. The harddrive will be wiped in advance of collection so no software included I'm afraid. It will run Win2K fine and you can still obtain the relevant drivers from websites for the peripherals. Its running USB 1.0 so don't expect a lot out of it in that respect. Otherwise, its proved very reliable. EDIT: This PC is still perfectly capable of running a linux distro and would offer good performance, even by current standards.

Now my custom mixer and Alembic power supply is finished, I've got the parts left over from the Fostex Hexamix 4 channel mixer to give away. It includes assorted pots, switches, 1/4" phono sockets, fader sliders (all chassis mounted), tall plastic control knobs, and the chassis from the mixer itself. If there's something in particular you'd liked photographed, let me know.
