I have a cunning plan m'lord. Would it not be a huge amount of fun if we could perhaps bring some of our drummer buddies down and set up a drum and bass jam sesh? My father has an electric drum kit I could probably persuade to let my bring, and we can run that through a bass rig and just have a cool little jam going on. I don't know wether that'd be against some public performance laws or something but if people like the idea it would be great fun! (P.S. Kudos to those who get the blackadder reference)
You know what? I was so close to suggesting this myself and I can't remember what stopped me. I think I might have been distracted by work at the time. It's only a short jump to others bringing a guitar and a keyboard and... ...a Basschat band is formed.

welcome to both of you

Yeah reviews - I've been meaning to cover all my basses but... ...mmm, finding the time.
ahhhh you was the guy who outbid me at last 5 seconds damn....ehehe congrats on the bass!!! enjoy it...i never tried a cutlass so was curious to own one...next time
I'm sorry u didn't get it but I've only ever seen 1 other come up on Ebay so my maximum bid was quite a lot higher than the end price. Bit of a steal. If you can make the bassbash and it gets delivered before then I'll probably bring both Celinders and both Cutlasses for people to have a go on. You could try them out then?

Walking On The Moon - Police Aint Nobody - Chaka Khan Whereever I Lay My Hat - Paul Young Dry Cleaner from Des Moines - Joni Mitchell Reflections - Supremes Lifting Me Higher - Jackie Wilson (and there's only a one bass bar bassline!) pretty much EVERYTHING by Level 42 lol

and its mine for a pretty stonking price. Year, probably around 1984. Neck might potentially be like a banana but I've got both I & II versions now and the two pickups mean I can gig the Cutlass II on the motown and disco stuff without changing instrument. Oh. Yes. Gotta love that cuttlary.
He's (CK) got a point - WW has a reputation for being hard to contact, secretive of his designs etc. Some say he's great, will fix anything he's ever made..puts circuit plans inside the amp....others say he never answers the phone, scratches part numbers off componenets etc and frequently changes designs even within the same "model". If I owned one I'd make sure I made contact with him, just to see if he'd be helpful here in the UK. BB
Nice to see a reasonable and mature response to my question at last. Can the amp be fixed in the UK or does it have to go back to Walter?
Disco stuff - "Just an illusion" by Imagination (Youtube has a live version) - discotastic! Hang on, it must be jazz, the bassist is wearing a beret...
Putting my bass geek hat on for a sec... Does anyone think the bass player miming or maybe playing a Wal MIDI bass? There looks to be a fairly chunky lead coming out of the instrument.

1. Jaco 2. Bernard Edwards (trust me, I would love for Bernard to be #1 but Jaco did more to push boundaries) 2. Larry Graham 3. Rutger Gunnarsson (Abba) 4. Colin Hodgkinson
Anyone fancy giving me and a bass a lift from Battersea, South London? I can always travel to a tube or train station near you... and of course, will chuck in some petrol money for your troubles.

I'm up for this, it would be great to meet some of you after being on here for a while. I'll bring my Yamaha fretless (equipped with quarter pounder pickup) and my pedal board (if anyone's interested in trying out an EBS Multicomp, Digitech Bass Synth Wah, Humphrey Bad Monkey and DHA VT2 Dual Custom!). Shoot me a PM if anyone's driving up from London and has room for a small one in the car!
Alternatively, if you can make it to Ravenscourt Park/Stamford Brook I can give you both a lift also, given neither of you plan to bring big amps.
Would anyone be interested in my beaten up old stingray that has had a Nordstrand PU and John East pre fitted so people can A-B it against either modern rays or all original old ones?
My Cutlass might fit the bill. Sounds a bit harder than a stingray tho.

After a booking for band didn't follow through with a deposit, the chances are that I can probably make it. Normally I would bring the Smiths but this time I figure on bringing a selection which is a little different. Celinder Update P (ex Flanker) Celinder Update J (ex Flanker) Musicman Cutlass 1 Pedulla Pentabuzz (with Alembic pickups) I would bring more but don't have enough stands. Potentially amp-wise - 100w all valve Burman Pro4000 (because its relatively low power and has two channels) and EBS Neo212. I would bring the V8 but I believe someone has already offered? I'm looking forward to trying Johns headless Shuker as some indication of what I can expect with my own and the Modulus Oteil 6 because I've loved the sound of every Modulus Quantum I've ever heard except for the two I've actually owned. If anyone plans on bringing a 70's Jazz and Precision, I wouldn't mind A/Bing them against the Celinders just for shits and giggles.

How about going to see a hearing specialist and getting them to map out your frequency sensitivities? With that map you could get a preamp made with a compensated curve for you to plug in ear monitors into maybe? There are some very small internal preamps available for bass, such as the Aguilar OBP1 or you could even just get EMG active pickups instead. They have a preamp built into each coil.
I may have dozed off for a second but no mention at all of Carole Kaye?
I think she produced, directed, wrote and filmed it? No credit, of course.

Hartley Peavey consciously tries to deliver value for money. Whether that matches up to your expectations of quality is another thing entirely. Try before you buy.

we knew that stuff already

I reckon a number of basses currently under construction are going to end up being 'birthed' simultaneously.

Most memorable instruments you've played?
Kiwi replied to nobodysprefect's topic in General Discussion
Good topic! Haven't had this one before - hope it doesn't cover just basses tho coz here's mine Chinese harp. A bit like this one: They have sympathetic metal rods tuned to the same frequency as the strings, so that reverb effect you always hear them with isn't added with a delay unit. I found the sound of playing one in the flesh was mesmerising. Also, a keyboardist we nearly hired for our band turned up with one of these and it was literally love at first listen. It absolutely nailed all those classic blaxploitation hammond and rhodes sounds, plus he was a very very good player. Knew exactly how much to play and when to leave space. We were all gutted when he backed out to go travelling because his playing made the rest of us play so much better. I own examples of all the bass guitars that have been memorable for me, so I won't list them. Pete.young's Jap p-bass through my Burman was extremely nice though, I swear they were making big sexy time with each other. Oh and definitely an NS CR5 after it had been set up for me properly. I estimate it would take about 6 months of practice for me to get the hang of it though - gorgeous amounts of mwah and a deep, solid, thunderous amount of bass from that 41" scale. -

Bass Players You Can Spot A Mile Off......
But would you have guessed he was playing on "If I Was" by Midge Ure if you didn't already know?
I haven't actually heard the original of that, only the version that was played at the 1987 Princes Trust Gala by... ...mmm, Mark King of all people.
