  1. Afternoon, Ive got a lovely Squier VM Jazz Bass (the Sunburst 70's Jazz Bass). Its a lovely looking, and sounding guitar, and ive always cared for it since ive had it new. Now then, I changed the strings yesterday and the frets didnt look as "shiny" as they did the time before, and certainly looked a lot less "shiny" as they did before. They arent rusty, but they look clouded - almost like condensation would be the best way of describing it. Its the first time ive ever come across a bass thats "done this" and im not sure what to do. For the record, ive tried wirewool and a touch of silver cleaner but with it being a maple neck, im not sure on what to do next! Cheers
  2. I have a behringer one that you can have for a tenner.
  3. Dont warwick do a bass like that as standard? If it works for them, then i wouldnt see it being a problem?
  4. can i interest you in any Trace Elliot trades?
  5. bit late, but I sold a bass to Alain recently - he said he wanted it, i gave him the info and he paid next day. Bang on.
  6. I had the same problem with Dolphin Music over a replacement scratchplate for an OLP that id sold. Ordered it as IN STOCK AND AVAILABLE, expected delivery with 48hrs (paid extra for it) and 5 days later when it hadnt come (and the buyer was getting at me) I emailed them, and was told i would have it the following week. The following week came and i rang and was told "tomorrow" and then I rang the next day to be told that they actually didnt have any in stock when i placed my order and it would be about 3 months!!!! before i would have one! In the end i found some bloke up the road from me that made them for less that the cost on Dolphin. FFS.
  7. Probably NOT the place to put this, BUT; I recently did a total refurb on a Yamaha BBN5 - who's new owner is EAD...it was a fantastic thing to do (it was my first) Since then ive not been able to get the time for another project - now ive got some time, i am after a project to do - so if you are halfway thru something and havent got the time, or whatever, then let me know and ill buy it off you! Thanks (and feel free to move somewhere else if needed!)
  8. is there anything on axesrus that would be useful?
  9. Just this. You could say that for a bass player, Im slightly obsessed with Robbo... Check the solo out from 2:45 - and look at the way he struts forward - sheer arrogance, but it works for me! 13. For Sale, My beloved pre-Gibson (carpet covered) Trace Elliot AH150 SMC amp head. In absolutely pristine condition - only problem is that there is a screw cap missing - everything else is perfect. Carpet has no scuffs or burns or anything. 150 watts of pure english bass. Yours for £200. Would prefer collection from Coalville, Leicestershire but can deliver myself for reasonable costs.
  14. Just figuratively speaking - if you have got a long ass speaker lead, you could use this as a bass monitor for say, your 2nd guitarist?
  15. We rarely play a sponsorship gig, but when we do, its an outfit each - Jeans, and a Top, sometimes a jacket all for nowt - and when there's 5 of us in the band, that mounts up to a lot of stuff really, but its not all its cracked up to be. We have played in outlets, and at festivals, all kitted out, but its like you are a walking advertising board. Its difficult to get in to, but when you are there, its quite good. Just get to know a decent retailer!
  16. Picked up a bass and started picking away when i was about 17 and doing some cleaning in the Perf Arts dept at college. I was doing Perf Arts at the time so knew that a guitar was EADGBE - a bass had 4 strings so must be EADG - I kind of guessed that each fret was a certain note past the E, A, D or G (depending on the string) and kind of went from there. Wouldnt have taken it seriously if it werent for a mates acoustic duo wanting to make it into a band for the 1 year "anniversary" gig - so learned about 10 songs on a borrowed Jazz Bass and played my first gig in front of a pub full of people in May 2006 - from there the duo was scrapped and the band formed - we went on to do about 3 gigs a week for nearly 2 years, including playing at our local museum fireworks party, and headlining a closing down event at a major entertainment club "Barry Youngs Stardust". Now we are still going, and have a clothing sponsorship, and various other endorsements - so not bad going really!
  17. We auditioned for one before we got our 2nd guitarist. What the hell is their problem?
  18. get your router out and make a bigger cavity! I can do you a bigger cover.
  19. Get rid of your keyboard player. He will hold you back.
  20. Well, we're a 5 piece and dont really get any more than £225 for a night in a pub or club.
  21. Ive never really owned a big bucks bass - the most expensive one i ever owned was a Warwick Streamer Rockbass, or a Rockbass Corvette - I bought both for £120 and regret selling them. BUT - I recently bought anew (first ever new guitar) Squier VM 70's FSR Jazz Bass (with the binding and block inlays) and it is by far the best bass ive owned or played. Sounds just right for everything i play, whether its thru a PA, my old Peavey TKO, my Trace SMC 150, or my Trace V-Type 4x8 Combo - doesnt matter. I wouldnt even dream of upgrading anything, and im eyeing up the VM Tele Bass (in butterscotch please!). Just goes to show that you dont need £1000's to get a decent sounding bass.
