8. Theres always Parissiene Walkways by Gary Moore/Thin Lizzy - keyboard player can do the rhythm guitar parts (which is kind of synthyish anyway) and there is harmonies and chance to split the lead vocal.
9.
Everybody else seems to be persuading you to keep the gear and keep playing, so here's an opposite view. Yeah, go ahead, sell all your gear now. With a few months of not having anything to play on you'll soon find out whether you miss playing or not. And if you do (and I suspect we all think you will ), then it's a great opportunity to build up your rig and gear from scratch, with no guilt. You can get something completely different, or you can enjoy the fun of hunting down exactly the stuff you used to have. (Although at least you'll know where to find that Bongo - stingrayPete will have it!). And then you'll probably enjoy playing that much more, for having had a break from it. So go for it!
Unless you are married.

14. Make out everything is OK and then a day or so before, just say that there is a problem with your DB and play it on an electric bass guitar instead.

16. In our covers band we do everything in Eb just to help the singer out. I think most bands just do it to sound a bit heavier. Some bands (IE Queen) have done the majority of recordings just a touch out of key - they are all in tune, but its not a standard tuning - try playing along with Hammer to Fall for instance
17. hmm...interesting reading here. I have tried very quickly with wire wool (not masking the frets off) and havent had any success - i suppose I should stick with it and see
18. My Hondo Pro II was ply when i stripped it back..
19. What about manufacturers/suppliers that dont keep up their end of the deal? Im endorsed by the London Bass Centre - not fully endorsed, but I get a discount on their products. I am endorsed with them because of my (over?) extensive usage of Stadium Elites Strings - I ONLY play Elites - and I recommend that all the people I teach/come across play Elites and Ive got a T-Shirt I wear at gigs/festivals etc etc. Love the guys down the bass centre, all perfectly good guys.. Until recently they started to try and get me to play a different type of strings - their "player" series - Ive had a couple of sets off them, and they arent to my taste AT ALL - but they now wont send me Elites. Do I tell them where to stick it and move on to a different supplier, or tell them what I want and remind THEM of their obligations to me as an artist? I keep up my end of the deal, so it should work the other way around, surely?
20. Well, it still sounds ok, and fingers as good as it always has (ooh matron) so I think i might leave it for now and see
21. +1 for Neil Murray. Saw a Whitesnake gig on VHS with him playing and was overwhelmed. BUT It was only after listening to Thin Lizzy's Live and Dangerous that I actually went out and bought a bass - and Phillo is probably my biggest influence by miles and miles
22. I hope so! Thanks for the reply!
