1. Hi Guys Have you tried here http://www.rockofthenorth.f2s.com/ If you look in the classified section there are three experienced drummers all looking for bands Regards Tony PS Brilliant picture you have posted
2. I have played about 70 gigs over the last two years with the Behringer BX4500H complete with matching 15 inch and 2 by 12 cab and pound for pound I think it is excellent value for money. I had a problem at first gig with the 15" cab, sent it straight back to GAK who had a replacement to me within 48 hours and had no problems since. I would like something lighter ( Mark Bass perhaps ) but other things taking priority at the moment All in all I have been very happy with it
3. Wedding anniversary private party at one of our regular pub venues. Another cracker and first with my Geddy which sounded good to me. Just need to get a wireless set up so I can hear it from a distance Tony
4. We mainly play pubs and the "onstage" sound is reasonable. We occasionally play on a big stage and the sound is usually good but when we seem to play on a relatively small stage with the amps and drums right back against the wall that's when we seem to bet lots of bass rumble with me, the drummer and keyboard player looking at each wondering who is making the noise. We usually find that the other three members who stand further forward don't hear this noise so perhaps it is connected to proximity to the back wall.
5. Feel sorry for the people who play Gibson Grabbers !!!
6. Hi, yes that is how I started ( I moved from 6 string to bass ) and I was staggered how much difference it made to my sound when i bought my first proper bass combo
7. I bought an Apple Powerbook for £1500 and a USB mic so that I could take it to rehearsal and record us but my girlfriend always want it to upload pics on to Facebook with so I use my old trusty Tascam cassette 4 track with a mic hung from the ceiling and spend about 10 seconds getting a level....sounds pretty decent though.
8. Changed the pickups to Wizard Thumpers ( as recommended on this site ) on my recently Ebay acquired Squier Precision last night ( a relatively easy job with a soldering iron and screwdriver ) and at low level it sounds excellent with lots of definition and brightness ( must admit that I changed the strings as well to elite 90, 70, 50, 30's ) We have a gig on Sat night so I am looking forward to trying it out properly ( also bought a Geddy Lee Jazz two weeks ago that will be having it's first airing so I have an exciting night to look forward to ) I will post back with the outcome Tony
9. Sounds like an excellent weekend was had from reading all the comments on the ROTN website. We would have come over but we were in Scotland for the weekend. Tony
10. Have to admit that we don't charge quite that much lol and we have never done a New Years Eve gig due to some of the band not being available but I think we would be looking at about double our normal rate and it would depend on where it was. Like most bands there are some places you like to go back to and others you love going back to so it would depend on that. Personally I would be happy with £100 each plus a few drinks as a fair rate for the evening ( I would rather play in one of our favourite pubs than do a big corporate gig but we would probably want more for that ) so if we were asked by a regular landlord we would probably go out for £80 each ( £480 ) as it would also guarantee us several more gigs for next year. Sorry to ramble but it really depends on how enjoyable previous gigs have been ( some gigs are so enjoyable I would pay to play if asked nicely lol )
11. On holiday in Scotland and no gig until next week so keep loading them up guys as if I ain't playing it's nice to read about how other band's gig's have gone. Tony
12. Hi Chris Shame, I thought you had given up on the idea of selling it so I bought one on ebay two weeks ago for £440 Tony
13. Hi Kevin and welcome to the site from a relative newcomer. Like you I am a bit of a late starter ( 49 years old and only started gigging about 6 years ago ) and would love to be able to live cheaply and play for a living rather than doing the day job ( I keep dreaming ) I visit the site on a regular basis and it is an excellent way of picking up info etc and filling the time between practising and gigging Regards Tony
14. Hi Jon Thanks for the response about the Forresters gig on the ROTN site. We need to get a replacement sorted for that night. Just been on your website. Excellent set list and will definitely get to a future gig. Tony
15. Hi Jon Welcome to the forum from a Cleckheaton lad What's the name of the band ??
16. Years ago I read "Diary of a Rock and Roll Star" by Ian Hunter from Mott the Hoople and it is highly recommended. He made the diary predominantly during Mott's of America just after All the young dudes had been a hit and is pretty much a tour diary filled with loads of brilliant stories about life on the road. I loaned mine out about ten years ago and think I need to get it back as I want to read it again now. Go get a copy, you will not be dissapointed.
17. Anyone had chance to try out one of these yet ?? It is brilliant for when you crank up the bass for automatically giving you some very high pitched sounds to compliment it. Easy to use at home but a little more difficult when gigging however I have found that a six inch piece of velcro works well to ensure stability of sound throughout the night. Go on why not give it a try, in my opinion everyone should have a M.O.G.1
18. I bought a budget amp and two cabs and had a problem with one of the cabs. They arranged to exchange it, collected it as promised and left me a new cab. I always think a sign of a good company is how they handle a problem and they get top marks from me. Price was excellent as well. Tony
19. Hi and welcome to the site. Still a relative newbie myself but log on everyday as there is always something interesting to read. Regards Tony PS Also a Rush fan but just wish I was half as good as Geddy ( just bought a signature bass though !! )
20. Really pleased to see Jim Lea get several mentions as without Slade entering in to my teenage life I don't know where my musical direction would have gone. Always remember the story ( after they had fallen from favour ) when they turned up as a late replacement at Reading to play low down the bill carrying their own guitars from the car park and went on to win over the sceptical rock audience and blew all the "top" bands of the day of the stage. Anybody there that day ??
21. Pleased to see plenty songs mentioned here that are on our set list !!
22. Really miss Bassist magazine as I think the blend of reviews, editorial and transcriptions was just perfect. Shame it ended but if you keep checking ebay they keep cropping up Tony
23. Yes I would also like to just be able to slip a few bars of relatively easy to play but sounds bloody impressive slap in to a song or two per gig ( perhaps when we do our "introduce the band bit".....hate it but the guitarist always does it at some point in the night )
24. Yes I wondered about that as I thought it was now agreed that she did play on a lot of the classic songs.
