  1. I joined another band recently and have convinced myself that the right bass for the style of music and profile of the band would be a Jazz Bass (preferably in black !!) Good choice I am sure you will agree but up to now I have managed to avoid GAS ( bought my Yamaha TRB about 6 years and love it to bits ) so I am not really aware just what is a good price and what ( in theory ) is better than the previous etc I am looking to purchase either from this site or ebay etc and I am aware that if it looks too good to be true it probably will be so I just want a guideline as to what I should expect to pay for each model and what the hierarchy level is ie is a Fender Mexican better than a Squier etc I know that this is not an easy answer but I have faith in you all lol Many thanks Tony
  2. That looks a few notches up from the gigs we usually do but certainly something to aspire to as it looks superb. Hope it goes well for you. Tony
  3. Most of the time I put a drum loop on through Garageband on my apple laptop and a suitable bassline seems to come in to my fingers ( I don't think about it too much I just play it ) I then go on to put guitars on and then a vocal. By contrast to this quite often I get a "first line of the vocal" in my head and then I come up with a riff that seems to suit the words and phrases ( this seems to work a lot more when I am doing something new ie visiting another country etc ) The problem with this is getting it recorded before I forget it. Just shows how different we all are Tony
  4. Hi, I am looking for something slightly different and might be tempted as I wanted a Ripper or Grabber when I was a 14 year old schoolboy earning a pound a week doing a paper round so they were a little out of my league at the time !! What price are you looking to get for it ?? Regards Tony
  5. Hi all After a month long break I am out gigging again tonight at the Head of Steam nr the railway station in Huddersfield so if anyone is local and wants a night out it would be grerat to see you and chat Tony
  6. Will take some pics tonight and post them on the site
  7. Hi and welcome to the site I am from Cleckheckmonsedge myself and have actually heard of your band !! We play around the pubs of West Yorkshire and also try to play a few weddings etc around the area Enjoy the site I have found it to be an excellent source of assistance and enjoyment Tony
  8. I know that this may not be the perfect place to put this but I thought it might be worth asking. I have a 12 year old absolutely mint condition, virtually never played with neither a mark or blemish on it USA Fender Stratocaster that sits in my wardrobe year after year doing nothing. It is a Fender 50th anniversary ( not to be confused with the stratocaster 50th anniversary ) model in cream with matching cream headstock which appears to be quite rare ( not sure if that adds any value ) I got round to thinking that I would be better of exchanging it rather than selling it so I thought I would put this on the forum and you just never know someone may just have a lovely Jazz or Precision that they want to move on as it is doing nothing and they are looking for a very tasty, stunning sounding perfect condition strat. Obviously if anyone is interested I will put some pics on the site Tony
  9. Just been reading my Feb issue of Performing Musician ( brilliant mag by the way ) and there is a cracking review of Suzuki budget bass's ( P and J copies ) Must be honest and say that I did check the cover to check it wasn't an early version of the April 1st edition as I was not aware the Suzuki made guitars. Anyone tried or own one ??
  10. Sorry, the bit where Jimmy Page uses the violin bow ( I think ) just before the fast bass run that repeats a lot while JP is playing his solo
  11. I need to learn this song for Monday night rehearsal. Any idea what JPJ plays under the violin part ??
  12. Hi Nik Welcome to the forum. I am a Cleckhuddersfax lad myself and joined here about about 6 weeks ago. I have found it very enjoyable and picked up some great advice. Regards Tony
  13. My apologies, yes it sounds much better when it is faster and sounds good. Many thanks
  14. Got an hour of work to do then i will get the bass out again and try it.
  15. Sorry but I think I asked incorrectly. It is the fast riff under the guitar ( after the solo ) that I need to learn. Hope this description helps
  16. My classic silly error that I do every few gigs is to start the correct riff for the song but on the wrong string !!!
  17. Hi and welcome to the site from a relative newcomer and fellow yorkshire bass player. My band played at the Victoria Hall in Saltaire just before xmas which was a lovely venue. Do you play in a local band ?? Tony
  18. Thank you, I will try that a bit later tonight whilst my girlfriend is on facebook !!
  19. Hi Need a little help please if possible. Anyone know what notes to use towards the end of Back in Black when the bass plays the repeated fast run along with the lead guitar ?? I just can't seem to get the exact notes so any help would be appreciated Many thanks Tony
  20. No official name as such yet but the singer and drummer played in a band called The Big Fish about five years ago that gigged quite a lot I believe so that appears to be favourite as they believe there will be quite a few landlords in the west yorks area remember them.
  21. Got the gig and now need to learn them all !! The singer is a lady and wow, what a powerful voice. Drummer and guitarist seem top notch as well so should be fun and think we will be out gigging soon.
  22. Well I got the gig although we didn't play Black Dog on the night. Starting to get the feel of it more and I think it will be there for next weeks practice. What actually is Guitar Pro ??
  23. I too have a powerbook and always turn to the official Apple forum if I have a problem and it is usually answered within minutes as their are so many worldwide viewers. Sorry I can't be more helpful Regards Tony
  24. Hi Ram and welcome to the forum. I love Chicago and have visited relatives their several times. We came over last year to my cousins wedding who runs Trinity Irish Dance Company which you may have heard of. They have some brilliant musicians playing for them. I was so inspired I bought a tin whistle when I got back to try to learn but not had much success yet. Enjoy the forum, it has helped lots me since I recently joined. Regards Tony
  25. Not an expert but would Lizzy's "boys are back in town" be a good example of a band playing in front of the beat as it seems to want to "pull" you in to the next bar.
