1.
Denis Dunaway of the original Alice Cooper Band. Just a great player.
Seconded!
2. I'd give it up and find another band...not necessarily in that order......
3. And here's another....Ralph Hood from the band Grand Prix
4.
Jim Rodford from The Kinks and Argent.
Yeah I remember him when he was in the band Phoenix from the late 70's formed from the ashes of the band Argent. I had both their albums, and quite liked them at the time.
5. I watched rockers Y&T tonight. I have been a fan since just after the first album came out in 1976. I have to say I did miss bassist Phil Kennemore R.I.P. He didn't really play anything fancy, but he was a rock solid player. It was a great gig by the way!
6. Our tribute to 70's rockers Budgie, In For The Kill have a gig coming up on Saturday 8th October at: The Turks Head Market Street Castle Donington Leicestershire DE74 2JB We should be on around 9.00pm and it's free admission. Any support is always welcome!
7. Nice! Paul used to set all my guitars up for me. RIP Paul.
8. What IDIOT would want to play a Rickenbacker? Ahem.....
9. This, that I favoured on my Youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/clarkpegasus4001
10.
Glad to hear you're in the mend, Flanker! I quite like the old rock, and some of the AC/DC and ZZ Top lines look very straightforward - something like Thunderstruck has very little fretting hand action, but a nice beat which might be good to get to grips with - and it's a totally boss song, of course!
I'd agree with this......AC/DC
11.
+1 ... Wishbone Ash went down the pan after they kicked MT out ...
+2.....MT is a friend of mine. He borrowed my bass for his album Argus Through The looking Glass - Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash.
12. I'll throw in some more..... Peter "Mars" Cowling (Pat Travers) Joe Puerta (Ambrosia) Martin Tiefensee (Lake) Heiko Efferts (Lake) Gary Strater (Starcastle)
13. i work for UPS so i'm bound to say them! considering the way Derek's bass was packed and sent from Germany (in another thread) I say thumbs up for UPS in getting it to him in one piece! Mind you they are not cheap.
14. From what I can gather they are the Mayones BE basses under the name FAME as a line made for that music store. They do look the same to me......
15.
Good call...He played some great stuff on the first couple of Mike Keneally albums. Dave Carpenter was an absolute monster on electric and upright. Chuck Domanico played on thousands of sessions. Gary King's work with Bob James and many others. Rick Laird was a great straight ahead jazz player on upright before he joined Mahavishnu Orchestra. Andy West with the Dixie Dregs and The Mistakes The great Oscar Pettiford never gets a mention. Lincoln Goines only ever gets mentioned with regards to the book 'Funkifying the Clave'. Scott Ambush from Spyro Gyra and Kim Stone from The Rippingtons tend to get overlooked a lot. None of the great Nashville guys get mentioned....players like Glenn Worf,Mike Brignardello, Dave Pomeroy,David Hungate, Bob Moore,Roy Huskey Jr.,Michael Rhodes. There are loads of great players there. There are tons of great players that rarely or never get talked about.,
Why thank you! +1 David Hungate = superb
16. Beautiful bass, if only I had the money...... but i've been on a spending spree so have a bump!
17.
Lee Pomeroy - Rick Wakeman/It Bites and more recently Take That - cracking player
i'll be watching It Bites in Nottingham in a couple of weeks at the Rescue Rooms Lee's a good player but I still prefer Dick Nolan.
18.
I don't honestly care once it sounds good to start off with. I've got poly, nitro, oil and wax finished instruments and, to be honest, I don't think any one is "better" than the other, tonally or aesthetically.
Do you find the oil and waxed one's easy to clean? what do you use and do they scratch easily?
19. This question is really in two parts, and i'm taking bass BODY finishes here: Do you prefer a satin finish, cellulose or other type of finish on your basses? advantages and disadvantages please! Another question is how do you clean satin/oil basses? do they scratch/wear more easily than other finishes? Cheers
20.
Has anyone got any experience of shipping abroad. I have had some interest for my Jazz bass which has been on the 'basses for sale' page for a couple of weeks. Trouble is, all offers would involve shipping to France. How does one go about this, and how do you protect yourself from fraudsters? Any advice would be appreciated. Regards, Jack
I've shipped all over the world Jack, it's no big deal mate. The first thing you could do is pack your bass as if you are going to send it (pack it REALLY well)! Take it to your post office, or courier and ask them how much it will cost to send it insured to your destination and roughly how long it will take to arrive. That way you know the "exact" amount to quote. If it's going to France the buyer does not have any import duties to deal with because it is in the European Union, so all he will have to pay for is the bass and shipping. I would insist it is insured and I would insist Paypal or bank transfer. Tell the buyer you will ship it when the money is in your account and not before. When you do send it give the buyer the tracking number if you have one (which you should) and the approx time it will take to arrive. You should not have any problems.
21. I would rather use a dep if at all possible. You got lucky there Pete! At one gig we played at, the drummer did not turn up at all and we could not get in touch, so we just did it as a duo. Not great but cancellation is the last resort. The venue were happy, the customers were happy and were grateful that we had the balls to continue without him, we got payed so we were happy. Jobs a good un'....We played there again just last night as it happens, this time with a new drummer......who turned up!
22.
Found this one recently. Seems good. Lots of info for the old gear. Its confirming what I suspected with my P. Not 76, but a very early 75. S/N # Info near the end. http://home.provide....cfh/fender.html
This is the site I have used in the past it seems very accurate, and it is the one I was going to suggest.
