For years i have seen the odd photo of the carbon fibre necked b quad bass. Looks fabulous, anyone tried one? opinions?? i am intrigued because they are rarer than a rare thing, and i have tried many a fabulous bass but never even physically seen one of these, let alone tried one out.

Someone has just offered to pay cash. Apologies bills to pay rather than swap. That said how much would the tokai sell for ? I also have a beautful bone white bitza jazz , lindy fralin pickups, Fender US body, through body strung , generic neck (rosewood board) Parts alone have cost me £400+. Willing to talk a partex with some money.

The MM has a very good defined sound courtesy of the pre-amp. all single coil Jazzes suffer to a greater or lesser extent from the old 60hz noise. And sire are no exception The nordstrand are hum canceling and are great in their own right, tonally richer (as they should be at the price) and very quiet. Overall they don't change the character of the bass, just improves what it does well already.

No leading edge musician does 100% brilliant. They define technique, place it in songs and at points amaze and at others bore/annoy. Victor Wooten for example..re-tuning mid play...really? Jaco was a pioneer of the fretless technique.. I have 'the album' and have even tried learning portrait of tracy but in the end, only to learn the technique. A lot of the album is very dated and actually not that well engineered. All techniques have a place (please note anyone who thinks slap, or hammer on or....is the be all and end all..) but in the end its the context and song that people listen to. Technique in the end is a tool, feel, groove and context etc is where its at.

In series of ‘murder your darlings’ sweep of my bass collection I am cutting down the number of wonderful basses I have. Some of them relatively recent acquisitions… my main objective is ..downsizing my storage, so need the space… All my basses are well set up and play great, no issues and in most cases are near perfect or only have age related dings. So here is #3: Tobacco S/B VM squire Jazz bass. (Indonesian build 2012) I only bought this a short time ago, had to drive a decent distance to get it. Have serviced it ( polish, fretboard clean and fret polish, new strings.) New fender tortoishell scratchplate ( I had a new one kicking around and its was a better tort imho). Have also added CTS pots. Lovely bass, nice slim neck, Duncan designed pickups. The VM range is quite a step up from the affinity series (which is actually very good at the price point it has to be said). Virtually Unmarked, basically as new (couple of usage marks on the bell plate) Priced to sell (and recover my outlays..) and you'll save about £100 on new.

It's in perfect condition and has the added huzzah of Nordstrand pickups, so no 60hz noisiness. I bought this quite recently, but haven't gigged it so perfect. Added: Its Ash bodied, with a maple neck (white tort block markers) Just weighed it again and the bathroom scales say 11lb Buyer pays shipping, I use UPS insured, so expect about £30 - £35 approx...depends where you are etc. May consider part trades with cash either way. Warwick corvette 5, darkglass amps (500 or 900), G&L JB-5.. a non reliced P bass...c'mon lets talk..

So Here is my USA build S.U.B (stingray) bass. A sought after version of the S.U.B bass range. The Grandaddy of them all and easily the best, US build, US hardware and electronics, the rugged petrol blue paintjob peculiar to this range, black painted neck, in very good condition for its age (I think its a 2003 build year.) Slab cut body., replacement scratchplate and as cool as it gets. The necks can be quite a battering on these, this one is nigh on perfect which is rare indeed. A couple of body dings, but nothing serious. Its a slab bodied USA stingray by any other name and for this price..a bargain.

I owned a TRB Mk1 (the one with the slap scoop) had it as my main ride for over a decade, changed amp and it all sounded rubbish ...blamed the 'old bass' and stupidly sold it. The amp was the problem d'oh Damnit One of the best basses i have ever owned (and that's in excess of 150..) still look out for one, they are very rare.

Here is my fretless project lending a heavy nod to the J-P style Jazz bass. Underneath is a 90's jazz copy, but the sunburst is bang on for the look (even down to the lack of red varnish in the scratchplate). I have replaced the pickups with a mixture of Entwhistle and Wilkinson pickups, de-fretted the neck using maple veneer to re-do the fret lines, Neck is sanded and look good. Big 'ol bridge to hump up the sustain. Wilkinson schaller style machineheads. Like i say its mid-project, needs detailing on the nut (not a show stopper as it plays just fine), No decals..add what you like or leave as is.. A litlle bit of detailing will make a fine jaco tribute. Selling for cost of parts as needs to get down from 11 basses!...so i am told. I live in Rochester Kent. Post or can meet up in Rochester/ London during week,
