I actually like it a lot... reminds me of Michael Libeskind deconstruction architectural style....
Hooray for Holloway! I'm not remotely interested in this bass, but I hope they sell the pickups separately. They look like they'll sound amazing.

Current ages are 23, 28, 33, 33. Current alternative-ness (out of 10, where 1 is Robbie Williams and 10 is happily listening to square waves) is probably 5, 6, 8, 10 I won't reveal which score goes with which age. ;-) -

Surely someone must fancy a bit of this? Hopefully Jim will chip in and say what he got out of it to inspire you all. We sound like this, btw: http://ax.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt...526s%253D143444 -
Electric guitar through a bass halfstack?
dangerboy replied to fekalizatorius's topic in Amps and Cabs
I much prefer the sound of guitar through my bass amps to all guitar amps except a Traynor TS-50. It sounds way better through a GK MB150 than the equivalent GK guitar amp, for example. GO FOR IT! -
I used to moan that music had gone sour, because I relied on radio, magazines etc to tell me what was going on. Now I put some effort into finding things, and I discover someone new and amazing a couple of times a month. Get on MySpace and hunt about. Go to little local nights putting on bands in whatever genre you like. Find record shops with a finger on the pulse (like www.normanrecords.com). Check out recommendations from people who have resisted the lure of money and fickle fashion (eg http://www.godisinthetvzine.co.uk). And accept that you'll never obsess over a band like you did as a teenager because you've heard so much more now and have so much more music in your life. My latest obsession is My Disco www.myspace.com/mydiscomydisco I saw them last week. Mind-blowing.

I don't think you can go wrong with a GK MB150. Available second-hand on eBay for 300-350, hold their value, are small enough to take anywhere on the bus with an EUB, and you'll never need an upgrade.

This is a tough one to describe. This is a BOSS DS-1 distortion which has been modified to make it into a crazy distorted tremolo, with a speed dependent on signal strength. All of which means that if you hold a nice loud note, the tremolo will kick in at a high speed, then slow down as the note gets quieter. I've put an mp3 here so that you can see what I mean (some nice ponderous playing on my modded Thunderbird): http://www.dangerboy.plus.com/ds1.mp3 Really useful for noise-lovers, or for big finishes to loud songs. It has a few scratches on, including the previous owner's favourite settings. Still looks good, though. £30 inc P&P to the UK?

I have to admit that I didn't have those problems with the Live Music Society guys - they seemed pretty good value to me. Anyway, we'd love to gig with you guys again. What are you studying now, btw? -
What's this about UCL Unions being an awful venue? I'm going to UCL next year (hopefully) so there'd better be somewhere good to play. ...plus a band to play with. (i know this is going completely off the topic of this post so i hope you dont mind my interjection) (edit) Just listened to the songs, and they're rather darn good. (yes, not just rather good but rather DARN good)
Cheers for the comments. Much appreciated. UCL Union isn't a great venue - the sound is a bit lacking, for example. It's not bad, though. Better than a lot of places. UCL does have a good live music society (and jazz, and metal too) who will help you hook up with fellow musicians. Plus, being London, there are loads of places to get gigs, especially if you tell a promoter that lots of your student mates will come along. -
Not trying to derail your thread Steve, but you're not rehearsing at IAF are you? This might solve the mystery of who stuck up the note saying Hi! the other week.
Maybe -

Two basses, because you can't have too much of a good thing. I also sing, and tend not to play much bass when I do so, which means that the other bassist is more supportive when that happens. Then I play the supportive role in instrumental sections to let him go free and do interesting improvisational stuff (as at the start of 'There's No Such Thing as Bad Publicity'). Then sometimes we both bang a riff out for maximum crushing power (eg at the start of A History of Oil on the MySpace). The rest of the line-up is drums and baritone guitar. -
Hey! We're Songs From The Shows (http://www.myspace.com/songsfromtheshows) If you like BASS... That means you like TWO BASSES TWICE AS MUCH! Come and see us make Sonic Youth, Queens of the Stone Age, Cop Shoot Cop, Shellac and Rollins Band-influenced noise at any of the following dates, before our big line-up changes kick in from mid-May and we have to spend a few months getting back up-to-speed. Thursday April 9th - The Bullingdon, Cowley Rd, Oxford with 13 Guage and Dr. Slaggleberry. Friday April 17th - The Gaff, Holloway, London with The Firm and the Drowners. Tuesday May 5th - Duel in the Deep at Catch, Kingsland Road, London with Silent Front and 2 more TBC. Friday May 15th - Hitchin Football Club, Hitchin, with the KT Rock School.

I'm one half of the duel bass attack of Songs From The Shows. The other half has to go off and contribute to British foreign policy from May, so we need someone to step into his sizable shoes. We practice in Holloway, North London, and gig once or twice a month at DIY noise and alternative rock nights, or anywhere else that will put us on and seem like decent promoters. We have a very open policy to songwriting - everyone writes their own parts, and we all commit to playing in a way that leaves space for every instrument to be audible and interesting. This is our MySpace http://www.myspace.com/songsfromtheshows This is a review from God Is In The TV Zine: "Yes, the name is a little... odd... and the prospect of a band featuring two bassists may be daunting to some at first, but this monolithic collision of forceful rhythm, crunching time sig changes and elegant spiralling guitar sounds is well worth spending a bit of time with. This is the kind of music that's informed by the likes of Shellac, Slint and The Jesus Lizard, but takes things off in a slightly psychedelic direction, adding hints of The Cardiacs and Levitation. Live, they become something else entirely, with the energy and volume of the performance elevating each song to a messianic wall of sound. Catch them now while they're still unknown and you can say you were there at the beginning." Anyone fancy getting involved? Please don't reply to this ad if you want to slap. It just wouldn't work with the rest of the sound.

I wonder what's in the box. A number of other Durham pedals seem to be different flavours of Tubescreamer under the lid.
