1. My band has a Facebook page out of necessity, but I'd rather people went here. http://redeyeband.weebly.com/
2. Standard list for me is: bass, strap (detached), 2 leads, Bad Monkey OD pedal, Power supply for said pedal, spare strings, mini stage stand, tuner, patch lead to attach tuner to amp, pick tin. I think that's it.
3. I played bass when I was a teenager but then stopped playing music altogether for years (lots of reasons, too many to go into). I was going through a dodgy time many years later and I had been talking about taking up guitar: my wife bought me one for my birthday and I loved it. Started doing a bit of home recording later on and picked up a bass to lay down some low end. Bumped into an old mate at a gig who said he needed a bass player and did I know anyone: been in RedEye ever since and I love it. There's just something about locking in with the drummer and getting a solid foundation for the song that feels RIGHT. Still love my guitar though and use it for songwriting and general fun and games.
4. That sucks dude - I feel your pain
5. Exactly - that's why we keep going back
6. Yep, that's the place. Frankie's not cheap (£240 per day) but the gear you have access to is second to none. He really knows what he's doing as well and helps get the best out of you. Worth it imo. Don't know any amp techs personally but I've heard good things about the service you get out of Bairds.
7. Recording out at Einstein Studios near Antrim. Great place to spend the day - brilliant gear and Frankie is an absolute hoot. This is the third track off the EP - it's called Headless and so far it's sounding great. Unfortunately our singer is loaded with the cold atm so we didn't get any vocals down but we cut the session an hour short and Frankie is going to give us the time some evening over the next couple of weeks. Disappointing not coming home with a finished song but it couldn't be helped.
8.
RUBBERSOUL! ah, i was talking to you on fastfude the other day about your pickup upgrade idea!
Well there you go! Small world. Still thinking about that PUP change.
9. Spent the day in the studio. Played a Moon Custom - lovely bass. Great day.
10. Schism by Tool - not quite finished yet but on the way.
11. Westone Concord. I've had it since I was 16 and it's absolutely knackered. Now play an Ibanez GSR200 which I thinmk is a brilliant bass for the money (I paid £90). I would like to buy something a bit more up market and with humbuckers at some stage but the Ibby does what I need it to do and then some.
12. Yes, that's it. I have Roto 66, 45 - 105 on right now.
13. I love them! Really wish I had that sort of skill.
14. What gauge would you recommend for D standard tuning?
15. I must say I've never liked the look of the violin bass but some of those others in the pics look gorgeous.
16. Thanks for the feedback guys. I must actually look into some of the others - the Epi should be available somewhere in NI at least. I'm a bit scared to order one off the net without trying but I really really want one.
17. No thoughts? i'm in a genuine quandry here. I have no place to try one of these myself - there's no stockists in Northern Ireland.
18. I have a real love for semi-hollow guitars and basses. I am currently drooling overt the Hagstrom viking: http://www.hagstromguitars.eu/index.php?option=com_zoo&task=item&item_id=101&category_id=25&Itemid=23 My queries are thus: has anyone got one? What's the shorter scale like to play? Can it handle high volume with overdrive without feeding back like a banshee? Thanks for your help, Steve
19. Second the Vox Amplug. Really handy wee device.
20. Excellent, think I might also get one
21. Beatles I love (particularly that album); Mccartney after not so much. Springsteen and McCartney together? Nope.
22. The place we played last night, we had to go in the back fire escape. That was tricky with a 410. Coming out at the end of the gig, we discovered there were no outside lights. Trying to get an 810 down those would have ended really badly.
23. Springsteen? McCartney? Jesus, I'd rather slit me own throat.
24. This: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Value-Guitar-Stand-For-6-String-or-Bass-Folds-Up-Small-/310138457604?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4835b14e04 Cheap as chips and works a treat.
25. Maybe some judicious EQing is the answer? I'm loathe to buy another pedal right now.
